Hi disherten, I am a pharmacist. If these really are the "wafers" (the orally disintegrating tablets) that is generic for Niravam, not Xanax and your pharmacy made an error. However, I am not sure that is the case here. I believe this particular tablet is a true generic for Xanax, just shaped differently.
While in theory I agree with sekio that alprazolam is alprazolam, in practice we must make sure our patients feel their medicines are working even if it is psychological. It may be that your pharmacy is limited to what they can order for CDS's as many of the chains have put restrictions on the pharmacists ordering specific brands.
