All Things Fitness/Gym/Aesthetics 2012: So Homoerotic!

I've got a membership for a really good gym I just haven't been on the ball this week, was rough monday then it pissed rain everyday and it's a fair walk to the gym so instead I worked out at home and went jogging when it was sunny.

That's a fucking banging deal MSB. My stuff altogether probably wasn't much less than that. Treadmill is ok for split interval training but other than that I'd rather run outside to be honest.

Today I've ran 3 miles, done 150 sit ups (yes I know I should of done it with a weight on me but was going for the rip), 6 sets of 12 @ 40kg on the bench, 100 press ups with the iron gym bar, 30 chin ups, and currently doing dumbells done 2 sets of 20 so far. I know I've gone off my bulking mission but tbh I reckon I was better when I when I was more toned. Only eaten 3 meals so far today aswell.

How does it go with doing weights for you MSB? When you tense surely that can't be doing you much good? It's why I never went to the gym on monday kidneys were sore so I thought if I did weights it would probably hurt more.

EDIT: and yeah mugz bench etc is in the garage, just the rest that's cluttering my room lol

I'm sort of going into no mans land here. A lot of people who have colostomies don't even pick up their babies... Tensing closes the hole, which should stop it from spilling out (a prolapse). My biggest risk is a hernia because they've sliced through my abs and totally buggered them up.

Do you ever put a dumbell between your feet and then sit on a bench and raise them up? It blasts the bottom rows really well.

I have done aye. Skullcrushers are a favorite of mine, you done them yeah? The good thing about the dumbells I use at home is they're only 8kg's so I can do any exercise with them no problem. At the gym I usually start with 14's then go up through the weights.

I presume if they buggered up your abs it must rule out quite alot of stuff? And cardio will be more painful?

EDIT: I see you mean with your feet pull up the dumbell? Never tried like, or do you mean like what Urbain posted the other day?

Also what is a good way to work out my triceps at home with the dumbells? I've done some pull ups etc already. Any ideas?

I don't see what Urbain posted the other day? An 8 will be more than enough for the exercise i'm suggesting! You let your legs go off the edge of the bench in a straight line and go up and down with a weight on them.

[edit] here's a vid - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YN4UFQDIeUw you can do it flat as well :)

I like skull crushers too! Erm the only thing they tell you to stop doing is contact sports and lifting of moderate-heavy weight. Cardio is fine. A lot of people get into marathon running. I don't think bike riding would be much fun. I hate running around outside, I feel embarressed.

I will try that after dinner, I'm thinking another run but not sure.

Any idea on how to do triceps with dumbells? I've done basically everything you could do with the iron gym bar. I was thinking of using the dumbells like what you would do with a rope pull down? Tried it and feels good.

You could put something of equal height opposite your bench, put your feet up on that with weights in your lap and do dips?

Sounds too complicated! Reckon I will leave it for now pretty stuffed and had a decent work out earlier.

RRS I've figured out our protein powder dilemma. If you add a scoop of zero fat greek yoghurt into the shake it thickens it up and makes it into a proper shake and doesn't make you want to puke. It adds 5-10gs of protein too :D

I just bought a new powder for bed cus I keep waking up in the middle of the night starving. It's got egg protein for medium release and casein for release over 6 hours - along with loads of other shit like glutomine and tyrosine for recovery. The cherry on top is that it's pistaschio.

If I mix mine with milk instead of water it's just like a tastey strawberry milkshake :)

Did a fair whack earlier on 3mile run first thing, 4 sets on the flat bench, 4 sets incline, 3 sets of chin ups, press ups til failure, bent over rows, dips, dumbells, sit ups... etc. Aiming not to undo the good until tomorrow night at least

I have much to add to the protein shakey thing .. we've been trying to perfect it for years .. and have a ton of receipes .. but I can't be bothered to look for links and product names atm.

separate to shakes though, for proteinlishousness, nerdboy here has mastered the ultimate bodybuilding puddin' and has it for a night time treat every day

quark, mixed with some sugarfree flavoured choc drink powder ( comes in tons of diff flavours) .. makes a high protein, delish puddin .. (99.8% fat-free) and packs 11.3g of protein per 100g serving

a pot of this with some reduced cal chocolate powder = yum (can replace the powder, or add to it, with orange extract or vanilla extract and it still tastes ace)

[edit] MSB: quark would make a good alt to your zero fat greek yoghurt AND give you additional protein

I've heard of quark before but never really looked into it. Might get some, mix it with a banana and a pint of skimmed milk for night time shakes. The stuff I've got at the moment is good anyway and tastes nice.

Wandered over to a bodybuilding/fitness forum the other day. Never again. Absolute meat head bellends like, asked a question about improving muscle retention and if there's any particular supplements that would help, got nothing but grief lol. The diets these people eat are an absolute joke like, you can't honestly recommend 9 meals a day to someone who's probably 3 stone smaller. Thick as fuck, it should be worked out on size/weight.

that would be perfect blended together. he's done that a few times but tries to avoid now as I get raging at the amount of times the blender comes out of the cupboard eleventy times a day and creates washing up.

[edit] I should add, that he also adds a few scoops of protein powder into it at the same time, but i can't remember the amount

Isn't Quark cheesey? Also, my wife's a physicist and i'd never hear the end of it :D There is tons of protein in this greek yoghurt, it's almost all protein in fact :O I will definitely give it a try though!

Quark is a form of cheese but its completley neutral and non descript, its neither savoury or sweet, and it can take on all flavours added to it, so in that respect it can be used in a milkshake without it being to nasty, cottage cheese in a milkshake on the other hand, lol. well, one can only imagine.

I love cottage cheese! Far better than chedder, mix it in with everything, chicken pasta salads, sausage and egg rolls on a saturday, beans & cottage cheese on toast... All good.

Marmz a few scoops of protein powder would be overkill with that really. 1 scoop at a time is enough usually, definately with the stuff I have anyway. Definately this quark sounds a worthy investment though!

i eat a tub of cottage cheese every night one hour before bed, but not in a milkshake, gross

Hmm ok if it's bland i'll give it a whirl. Cottage cheese makes me wretch, it makes me feel like a baby bird and someone has pre-eaten my cheese for me.

it is, but it's a very soft one and not savoury ... like riccota cheese. and they can go either sweet or savoury, like cottage cheese, depending on what you add to it (ie: pineapple or onion etc)

greek yoghurt has about 8-9g of protein per 100 i think, compared with 11+ for quark. plus quark probably has a little less fat, even compared to reduced fat greek yoghurt

quark is a bit more expensive though, and can't be bought in as many options as greek yoghurt. only one size of pots in most supermarkets, and it's very rarely on offer unfortunately

not when you're 5ft 7" and 14 1/2 stone it's not ;p

it's mainly protein anyway, calorie wise. if he doesn't use it, it'll just get pooped out.
[edit] it's got carbs obv, but not detrimental calorie wise there.

he always eats quark puddin with powder, even when he's not gyming. maintaining a high protein diet even when you aren't in gym mode really helps to keep the bulk of it there .. so it seems after watching his diet and gym flow. just gotta be careful to not start munching tons of carbs at the same time. that's when downtime tends to lead to piling on the pounds

it's totally smooth, not at all like cottage. I love cottage though, but it took me a while to get used to it. when i introduced it to nerdboy here it took him 45 mins to eat the pot and the look on his face was priceless.

he loves that too now though

Mine says 10.3gs and zero fat. It has 4gs of sugar in it though, which probably explains why it made the shake taste nice lol. That's not really a problem though cus I have it after my work out. For pudding this quark stuff seems to be just the ticket.
