What absolute guff. If you want to get bigger stay away from the gym?! I'm already on the right diet, not doing cardio and doing everything right. By june i will be over 12 stone, going to bulk til august at least

Oh you want to get BIGGER? - you're going for the superficial vain narcissistic bullshit, instead of going for just being really strong. WHatever dude.

Trust me (and Coltdan), I've been there - in 3 months I was more bulked out than I have ever been and it made me happy - but it is impermant, way more than working on your strength and endurance.

All of that weight you put on will drop off really easily if you go for the quick bulk up fix. If you train your body consistently and healthily, anytime you have a hard time in the future and can't afford to eat right or find the time to exercise enough, just doing simple isometrics will keep your body strong, the dude who developed them looked at lions and how they stretch to stay really strong, regardless of being kept in captivity.

If you're going for the superficial "I wanna get bulked up" look - you will burn your life away quicker than it should go, and for what? To look a bit more like those bigger guys you will never be one of? It can too easily become an obsession to look that "good" - you'll be able to talk the talk but not walk teh walk. That's ridiculous dude , be happy with what body you have and work with it, to make it strong and endurable, not bigger. Girls going smaller and guys getting bigger to fit an "ideal" - this is unnatural.

To be STRONG, and someone who can run or carry things for a longer period of time - now THAT is an ideal.

To be fair your advice wasn't very good anyway now was it? You didn't take a bit of banter over in the lounge very well either. If you really want I will send you a picture of my penis, I'll sign it aswell......for a mere £15.99. Bargain of the century.

Dying to go to the gym just now but it's pouring rain here and my gym buddies all seem to be missing in action, rough or asleep. How annoying.

Don't get too big rockstar. You may regret it.

I used to be 15+ stone.
Peeps thought I was a rugby player, and friends used to put the word 'big' before my name when addressing me.

But since losing 3 stone I feel alot fitter and more able to do things faster + I'm still just as strong.

I reckon 12 (possibly even 13) stone is an ideal weight to be at.
So long as you aint some short guy.

I'm pretty much always fluctuating between 11and a half and 12 stone, and I think a lot of that depends how hydrated/dehydrated I am...I'm 6ft tall.

The heaviest i've been was over 14 and a half stone, result of working in a shite office job for 12 months when i was 18 and going to the pub every lunchtime and every evening.....looked like a right fat fuck, pasllid and unhealthy, felt lethargic and shite....

Now, I got no muscles to speak of (except for stupidly overdeveloped postman's calves), but I don't want any muscles, or "definition"...I just like being lean, and feeling fit....good food and regular exercise...no more than that required.

Did my second Tai Chi class tonight, anyone who thinks this stuff is just standing about waving your hands around should try feeling the pain I'm got in my back and knees just now :D.

I'm really liking it even though I'm finding it really hard partly sue to some physical issues and also because I have so much muscle tension especially in my shoulders.

Gym membership has just run out so I need to find a temp new gym 'til the end of September. Thinking of taking up a fighting sport too, possibly kickboxing or boxing. Anyone here train in fighting?

I do Muay Thai, 2 hours, twice a week. It's excellent for getting in shape, but pretty tough going if you're not already quite fit. I like the combat element to the training, it makes me really work and keeps me from pussing out and going easy (like I would when I'm tired at the Gym or at other sports training). I've always found boxing and thai boxing training, to be the best overall workout. Plus, I'm yet to meet a woman that actually likes a body that's any more heavily muscled than a boxer. The Meathead look is not a good one. I do strength training, but wouldn't waste my time on bodybuilding.

Did your guts go rotten or something Urb?

They certainly smell something rotten.

I endure a huge food intake, which is a double edged sword, I cant go an hour without eating, and my bowel movements are terrible, which means my food 'stays' with me for ages. V uncomfortable. Im hoping these supplements should help.

You have just about summed up all my beliefs.

A combination of strength training and HIIT cardio is the most healthy and beneficial way to live that sports science teaches people at this moment in time, and it also doesnt involve obsessivness and overtraining, although it defintiley does require discipline and dedication.

Strength training 3 times a week is exactly where its at.

Athletes do it, personal trainers do it, models do it, pop stars do it, normal people do it.

This is exactly why the new wave of people who work in the fitness industry, models, actors are what id describe as lean, toned and defined.

The american 80's porn star look is over, just as much as the practices to achieve them that are now known to be not particually beneficial to health in the long term.

Anything obsessive is unhealthy, spending every day in the gym is unhealthy, and forcefeeding your stomache obscene amounts of calories is unhealthy.

^ How much did that set you back? I've got a bench at home but it only goes up to 50kg which isn't great really, use it now and again when I don't make the gym for a few exercises. The gym is still better cos I can work out a different muscle group each day.

Would love to get into Muai Thai looks awesome one of my mates does it (he's a kickboxing instructor aswell) and he seems to love it. Turns you into an absolute machine aswell. Cardio that would actually be fun!!

I'm noticing without the ching at the weekends I've gained nearly half a stone in 2 weeks. Been eating about 8 meals a day, probably 5 big ones and 3 slightly smaller ones. Invested in a 3kg bag of pasta and a 3kg bag of rice, that was definately a good idea. Eating 2 pasta bowls of pasta a day, one rice later on usually after dinner. 2 pro shakes aswell as all those meals. Constantly stuffed is the only slight problem but least I'm not hungry and I'm definately getting it right with the diet finally

I take omega 3, 6 and 9 and really notice when i don't. The joints in my fingers get v. painful and stiff. Also use vitamin b complex and c daily, helps with my energy levels, moods and immune system.

Don't have much in the way of "science" to back this up, just know in myself the difference.

My GP takes that herself Kate, and there's an interesting paper here giving an overview of omega fatty acids and assorted complimentary therapies in the management of arthritis - glucosamine is supposed to be good as well. The evidence isn't concrete by any means but that's not to say it is ineffective, just that more studies need doing, I'm a believer I think :) It's inflammatory/rheumatoid arthritis that seems to show the biggest benefit. I got my mum to start taking omega and glucosamine, she gets stiff'n'sore fingers as well.

Cheers Effie, that'll make interesting reading - and yeh its rheumatoid, you kinda get to know how to manage the flare ups hence the omega oils. Numerous people have recommended glucosamine, so you've spurred me on, I'll get some. I'm very stubborn when it comes to taking anti inflammatories n' the like, feel one day I'll have no choice until them I'll try other things...

Damn you for saying I'm like your mum with me sore bits :p haha Has she got knobbly bits growing too?

Attractive eh :|

We should run an EADD nude yoga & meditation thread Effie - with pics of positions n heaving breathing breasts %) Reckon it could be popular!

Haha sorry for the mum-mention Kate, my hands feel stiff some mornings and my hip's not happy with me at the mo so I might start taking something myself. She does have knobbly knuckles yes but she's not keen on anti-inflammatories etc either and I entirely sympathise.. All about benefit vs risks I guess, there comes a point when it is worth it. Let me know how you get on with glucosamine :)

Yoga and meditation thread's a good idea actually, trying to get back into all that.. very out of practice :\ So good for body and mind though <3 if we make it a nudie thread and include lots of heaving breasts it could counteract the macho vibes in this thread.. actually no, it'd make 'em all worse ;)
