Although that article makes me furious, a part of me is still glad that metal is a threat to some people and has the power to stir up controversy.

But still, fuck that guy. I was gonna say that the assasin shot the wrong guy and not the author, but that would probably justify some of his insane rantings.
 
yah well thats the thing with heavy metal. its different. very different from anything "mainstream." Im not talking about agressive tendencies, violent themes, or evil overtones (these are all quite prolific in mainstream society). Its very compositional nature is orthagonal to anything else out there in contemporary culture. All human beings naturally fear what is different, and waht they dont understand immediately.

Heavy metal is like that wierd bug that makes you piss your pants when U see it. Its different from you, in fact its totally alien from anything you know. It puts you outside your comfort zone. The simple mind's only response is to squash what it doesnt comprehend immediately. And thus, where there is metal, there is controversy. Unfortunately that wierd bug is a beautiful creature, a unique organism in this sea of biodiversity. Furthermore, this specific bug is made out of motherfucking titanium alloys, and will hurt your feeble little feet when u try and squash it.
 
^Fuck yeah! I went to see Slayer a week or so ago, and was reminded once again of the intense musicianship involved in metal. Poor old William Grim is truly talking rubbish - pity he doesn't even realise it.

Then again - the article does seem intended to cause offence - by the end he's slagging off pretty much all artistic endeavour that occurred after the 19th century..

^ theres also metal thread 1.0 and 2.0, both in excess of 500 posts. list a few bands, and im sure any of us could toss tens of similiar bands at you.

i remember seeing down once and the singer just kept pounding the mic into his chest
 
Besides still thinking that Martyr are one of the best - and most importantly, French canadian - metal bands around today, I also still feel that Cynic's album Focus is the best metal album I've ever heard.
 
Acid Bath are crazy... I dont get into sludge/core bands much, but good stuff

Listen to Rwake... 'voices of omens' pretty much owns
 
Try Middian, Buried At Sea, Electric Wizard and Yob as well if you like that stuff

i might have to endure all the nu metal trash just to see fucking nile and behemoth!!!! i might end up going afterall.

It's going to be damn near impossible to get those "free" tickets. And why the hell are Lordi playing the main stage? Aren't they some poor man's GWAR?

On a side note, I'm seeing Behemoth this Sunday, with Cannibal Corpse, The Red Chord, Psyopus, and Job for a Cowboy. Hell of a goddamn lineup. Stoked for this one.

saw a video for 1 of their songs last night on headbangers ball.

i wasn't familiar with them but i think i might have to check out one of the cd's.
 
I know some folks obsessed with Gojira...they're good but not my cup of tea, nicely strappingyounglad-esque though.

Acid Bath are one of my favourite metal bands!

New Mayhem release, Ordo Ad Chao

Pretty strong release, more in the style of NED bands mixed up with a bunch of crazy intstrumentation and bullshit. Cool!

I'm surprised you guys listen to some of the bands listed, bands like EyehateGod.

Not many people heard of them.
