I'm not so sure I hear much "neoclassical" stuff in Necrophagist, but the mighty Cryptopsy has a similar technical death style.

heh i cant think of any neoclassical elements in any death metal band, maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe Dismember, but only on their stuff thats on the fringes of death metal moving towards thrash.

neoclassical and annoying? i love that kind of guitar lead style.

IMO, perfect example of neoclassical is Priest's Ram it Down, first two tracks. Manowar does a ton of stuff in this fashion, Maiden certainly delves into it. That new Dragonforce band, allthough uber cheesy, has some INCREDIBLE neoclassical guitar leads, I really suggest the song Through Fire and Flames **PURELY** for the guitar lead tradeoffs; some may not like the bands style, but this video below is certainly a testament to their skill:

SIIIIIICK FUCKING LEADS!!!!!!

if you get annoyed at the power metal vocals, just fast foward to 3:08, thats where the mayhem starts.

Wood has a boner for Dragon Force!!!!

I really don't dislike Dragon Force, I just find them humorous. Much of the feelings I have for DForce dates back to last year's New England Metal and Hardcore Fest.

I knew very little about Dragon Force, in fact I only knew that they were a power-ish band from England. After getting to our hotel near the venue in Springfield, we see some dudes in a piece of shit car with "DRAGON FORCE" written with ELECTRICAL TAPE across the entire vehicle. I don't think I have ever laughed so hard. I was like "holy shit, those are some SERIOUS Dragon Force fans." The kids who dug them were the nerdiest guys I have ever seen, and my drunk ass just kept saying "NERRRRRDS!" (ala Revenge of the Nerds) whenever someone mentioned Dragon Force. Thus, every time someone mentions Dragon Force, I smile. That is my metal anecdote for the day. :D

edit: Don't think I get pleasure out of making fun of bands other people like, because I don't...usually. Unless the band in question REALLY fucking stinks, and that isn't the case with DForce.

ey man, the reason i gave that long explanation is cuz most of dragon force's stuff is pretty flaming, but damn i love that track i listed.

yo has anyone heard of the following bands:

Dirt Church, Severence, Magus Beast and/or Abacinate

?

They are opening for Testament on thursday, and ive never heard any of them. Friend and I are deciding weather or not to show up when show starts, or just bag it and wait for Testament. Some ppl that frequent this thread def know a lot more obscure/underground metal than I do.

PRAAACTICE WHAT YOU PREEEACH!!!!

no clue, man. I'm seeing Testament on Sunday, and didn't even know who was opening for them. If it is those bands, I won't be getting there early, as I haven't heard of any of them.

Someone recommend me some damn good melodic death metal, i need more.
also my favorite bathory albums are nordland and twilight of the gods if anyone knows of some stuff like that.

WOOD holy fuck those vocals scared me but it was definately worth listening too.

Also I don't know if it's metal enough for everyone but if you haven't heard jason becker than do so now!

I concur!

wow, just got back from some crazy "detroit rock city" style adventure in new jersey, except with Testament instead of Kiss. Testament fucking RULED! Got to see a 2 hour set, great venue, awesome crowd. Chuck Billy even said "Hey glad to see you guys are crowd surfing, but why dont some of you try to make it up here on stage? Fuck the security guards! And when u get crushed trying to get up here, make sure you sue them, not us, please. But yea all of you are welcome up on stage with us if u can make it past these bouncers!"

I tried, and failed :(

Basically did most of the tracks from The Legacy, The New Order, and The Ritual, and did a few from Practice What You Preach and Souls of Black. Diddnt do anything from Low and beyond tho, and i was dissapointed with that cuz I love their new stuff just as much as the old. Whatever that fucking rocked and my neck hurts...

oh yah, expect a new Testament album within a year \m/

Can anyone reccomend me some death metal that is as fast as Beneath The Massacre without the stupid breakdowns? Or Necrophagist without the annoying neoclassical guitar stuff?
