My boy made a mix cd a random assortment of tracks that contain ridiculous breakdowns (I think he called it "See it, then break it"...not that creative, but whatever).

That track was on there...for sure...:)

Was 'Endless' by Unearth on there? That's one of my favorites. An oldie but goldie.

Yep, I think that and/or Black Hearts Now Reign.

\m/

too bad i dont have a larger pic to show, the artwork for this album is really rad:

Been listening to this all week. These guys are feggin crazy, they make Meshuggah look like credited psychiatrists. Excellent raw old school death metal, and breakdowns a'pleanty. I had 3 other cds of theirs (Epic, Temple of Knowledge, the prophecy) and I think this one is the best out of wht ive heard. This is def a wierd band, a lot of their stuff is like some nostradamus style prophecy about some mystical alter reality thousands of years from now.

dudes... Soilwork... back in their good days. Those guys threw in some fucking perfect breakdowns. They really were a damn good band.

so i mentioned this in another thread to SonOf, but really anyone can feel free to give their opinions as well, but any psyopus fans up in this bitch?

I feel like they should be due for a new album very soon. It's been a while. :|

^ they put one out in may of this year called "3003"

i havent heard it yet though! wtf! but supposedly it blows the old album out of the water. its production quality is said to be that of a master. :D

never heard them personally, or heard of them for that matter. what kind of music do they do?

currently jamming to this:

Lord Belial has an awesome mix of really fast, thrashy amelodic black metal, which breaks into a lot of symphonic, melodic elements. Very passionate music, especially the last couple of tracks. I get bored of the constant black-metal style high-end power chords, even if theyre played at blisteringly fast speeds.

Really teachnical grind. Strange time signatures and whatnot. Think Calculating Infinity era Dillinger Escape Plan with even less structure.

"3003" is their old demo. I just found this on their site:

"Hey this is Chris here from Psyopus. We have finished recording our sophmore release which is entitled "Our Puzzling Encounters Considered". The recording of the album was as stressful as trying to catch bullet spray with your teeth but, when all was finished, we in Psyopus and engineer Doug White all unanimously agree this new album leaves "Ideas of Reference" obsolete. The spectrum of creativitiy on this new album is much greater, there's many more guitar tricks, the production is leap years ahead of the last, and the songs are tech as fuck. Looking forward to hear from all the post-labotomy scene fucks who want to point out how we need to learn how to write songs. This one is for you, jack offs"

^ yeah, my mistake, thats the one i was thinking of actually. though ive never heard "3003" either unfortunately, but that was the description i read from their web page. i have a shitty jumbled brain. :)

i typically shy away from grindcore (napalm death, being one of my fav bands, is the exception)

i dont mind brutal truth, old carnage, or shit like that now and then.

this band is fucking badass, can be mistaken for death metal, but overall this is most certainly grindcore:

Cyness | Looney Planet/Industriality

22 songs of grindey mayhem, got elements of mortitian and old napalm death in it.

hah, i have a burnt copy of this on cd, i never saw the cover -> thats funny they write "grind core" on it lol.

^yeah, its got a sort of frank self-indicative quality in explicitly advertising itself as 'GRIND CORE'. kinda like how alot of black metal bands take aggressively promote themselves as 'black metal' in all its excess. Too bad alot of 'em suck ass.

^
i guess the inverse of that sort of idea would be something like this:

Dismember | Death Metal

Before i say anymore, lemme say that I do in fact love this cd, I still listen to it all the time, but this is not what I think of when I think of Death Metal. Its more of an at the gates and (old) entombed style gothemburg thrash crossbreed. The production is awry, vocals being nearly inaudible at many points, and the guitars (which I do think sound pretty groovy) have more fuzz effects than the Nebula discography. Not really reminiscent of what you would think the title would represent. And the vocals themselves, more like a low end shout than some mean death metal bear grind. Come to think of it, i dont think the percussion breaks into triplets on the snares at any point whatsoever - gotta have some severe speed on the drums faster than that. Then the artwork- its more like some power metal cd cover than some brutal death metal imagery. I just really hate the name of this album, going and using that as an album name is making one hell of a statement, and this album is not really up to par to represent. Great cd tho nonetheless.

Now dismember's older albums, yeah a lot closer to death metal.
