They warned us this would happen. The states where recreational marijuana use is legal are also the states where marijuana is least expensive. The price of an ounce of weed ranges so widely from state to state that someone who smokes an ounce a month can move from Pittsburgh to Portland, Ore., and save enough money for a year’s worth of premium cable, the perfect companion for your habit.

The cost of buying an ounce of high quality cannabis in Washington, Oregon, Colorado and Alaska all cost less than $300 per ounce, less than the nationwide average of $324, according to PriceOfWeed.com, a site where users can anonymously submit the cost of weed in their area purchased either from the black market or legally through a dispensary.

Ah... I live in New York, and I have never seen the price of cannabis anywhere close to $341/oz. It usually fluctuates between $180 and $220.

If that map is truly representative of the price of your weed I actually feel sorry for America/ns.

Huh. I could go into many dispensaries and get an oz of good quality for under a 100 in Denver without having a medical license. Just saying... this chart may not be that accurate.

an ounce for good quality for under $100. that sounds a little hard to believe but i guess you can't post links by way of backup...

this is 6 months old: https://www.coloradopotguide.com/co...ices-in-denver-and-colorado-fall-2014-update/ and the average for a quarter is about $100...

We have a local magazine called Westword that used to get most of it's advertising money from "massage" ads. Now it's the local weed guide. Google it. Or Weedmaps. Or I could just post names of the dispensaries but that might be sourcing despite the fact that it is legal.

i clicked around and saw a few ads. the cheapest oz i saw was $169. i also visited a couple of dispensaries from their map and the average for an oz seemed to hover around $150. the lowest i saw was $139.
Or Weedmaps.
pretty much the same - clicked on about 6 dispensaries and oz average was about $180. i could not find a single dispensary selling an oz for under $100.

Livwell. $89 recreational price. Been the same for months. There are others with competitive prices too. Wax/shatter can be found for under $30 a gram also.

Isn't Livwell one of the places that recently got in trouble (and had 1000s of plants quarantined) for using banned pesticides? Might explain the price.

This seems about reasonable for California. You can certainly get cheaper outdoor (or even indoor in LA), but many places have less access, and even in LA you can go to bougie places and pay 350.

Those are definitely average mid-atlantic from my experience too. I wonder if MD will drop at all considering recent decrim/med and legal in DC.

IDK it has been that price for months now. If they are involved with this that is unfortunate. There is really no need to use any pesticides other than neem oil and other natural solutions.

Damn you guys are getting some good deals. The 294 they list my state at sounds pretty accurate...the cheapest I've ever bought an ounce for was 250.

I also don't know who would buy an ounce in North Dakota when they could drive just a little bit west into Montana and get a much better deal, LOL

People who don't have a dealer in the state bordering theirs, or who find the idea of sourcing drugs across state borders a little nutty? Unless you live on the borders of Northern/Southern California/Oregon/Washington (not counting the international borders, that'd be real crazy, even to Canada as you'd have to cross federally controlled borders) and have a medical marijuana card and it's cheaper/better in the other place I'd find it nutty too.

I mean the difference listed in the article is "less than 300$" compared to the US average of "324$," for such savings I'd be unwilling to drive more than ten minutes.

Their numbers for low quality marijuana are off, where I live it says close to 150$, however "schwag" cannabis has always been close to 45-50$, it's just with the flood of high quality cannabis from elsewhere it is near impossible to find, no dealer sees any point in lugging around pounds of cannabis when they can sell 1/8ths and 1/4s and never keep felony amounts with them. Legalize it already, for every person that decides to smoke weed instead of abuse physically addictive substances (looking at you alcohol and tobacco) I bet we reap the awards of lower physical and mental health care costs and increase self-reported quality of life scores, just my theory.
