Alcohol Vs. Hard Drugs

A lot will agree ecstasy (which includes more meth bombs than people think) is more of a "medium" drug, for lack of a better phrase. At least I do.

Ecstasy will give you a beautiful experience, but it's also famous for suicide Mondays. Take it a lot and too often, and you can overdue it on your body and mind, no question about that.

So clearly harder than a soft drug like weed, but not close to something like smoked meth. I'd also consider cocaine as a medium drug, but harder than ecstasy.

Why would you classify cocaine as a "medium drug"? Isn't cocaine a harder drug?

Cocaine can be a fun social drug like alcohol. If a coke head really wants to move up the ladder to hard, they switch to meth/crack.

If crack is a hard drug, why is cocaine a "medium" drug? What differentiates the two, in your opinions? Why would you classify alcohol alongside cocaine, if cocaine is much more addictive than alcohol is? You classify both alcohol and cocaine as "medium" drugs.

If you have to ask that question, and I speak for everyone, get the fuck off the forum.

You're either too young and naive to be here or a master level troll.

So can meth. Everything is fine in moderation--so much is analytic in the very definition of moderation. This shouldn't cloud our judgment about what are hard and what are soft drugs if we even choose to use such categorization.

Sure, and it's a helluva lot easier to moderate with cocaine (typically snorted) than meth (typically smoked/snorted/IV'd). Hence "medium", in my humble labeling system.

I honestly don't like the term "soft drug" or "hard drug", because alcohol has different affects on different people. Calling alcohol a "soft drug" minimizes it's dangers, but calling alcohol a "hard drug" makes it seem like alcohol is just as addictive as crystal meth is.

I agree with dankhead88's classification system for alcohol. Having a therapeutic index and a safety profile of a drug is way more informative and detailed than simply labeling it as a "soft drug", or as a "hard drug".

theyre both hard drugs but one being more hardcore than the other (just be around cokeheads and crackheads for a week im sure youllget the idea).
alcohol is more freely easily available and imo is more harmful to society than cocaine as it is. ive seen more people lost to alcohol than drugs, ive seen the damage it causes

Plus alcohol makes some people complete and utter dickheads that think they're the hardest person alive

I wouldn't call compulsion to redose every fifteen minutes "moderation", and for me, the high cost is the main factor limiting the length of a coke session. However, with meth taken orally, it's pretty easy to avoid redosing at all (okay...maybe just once :P).

Alcohol is a hard drug, by any reasonable classification.

Definitely agree with this.

I think people should understand this and media should never say the phrase "drugs and alcohol", suggesting that it is not a drug. The correct phrase should be (if they want to continue separating it, as if it's "safer" because it's "legal") drugs including alcohol.

It's a pet hate of mine.

^A month and two days, typically.

It is varied. Depends on the person, their susceptibility to addiction, family history, etc, etc.

This thread makes me want to cry. Can we be done with this/him?

I was over viewing this thread and realized that there is a popular misconception about Nicotine going around. Nicotine, is not carcinogenic. They have linked it with possible damage to the brain ONLY after 40 years of use.

The cancer causing substance in Tobacco is the smoke. Cancer - it's the smoke, heart disease - it's the smoke, respiratory disease - it's the smoke.

Nicotine has actually been linked to improved brain function and they believe Nicotine could be first line treatment of diseases such as "Schizophrenia" in the future.

Nicotine improves brain function? Where are you getting your facts from? It actually sounds like a very interesting concept, but I have never really believed that tobacco has medical benefits. But there's no need to start smoking cigarettes to have better brain function and memory, there's way healthier ways of doing that.

Nicotine totally is a nootropic. You can run a search on pubmed and turn up a bunch of articles, here is a rough summery: http://www.whatarenootropics.com/does-nicotine-have-nootropic-properties/

I was using nicotine as a nootropic by taking carefully measured doses of e-cig fluid in gel capsules until I accidentally dropped my container in a river while kayaking on shrooms the other day.

Nicotine without tobacco only presents cardiovascular risks, which should be mitigated by taking some form of anti-hypertensive.

I had no issues with addiction, but I also didn't get addicted to cigarettes when I tried them many moons ago. I find nicotine without the cigarettes to be quite nice.

With that being said, DON'T START SMOKING, THERE ARE FAR BETTER WAYS TO GET THE BENEFITS OF NICOTINE WITHOUT ALL THE NASTY SHIT IN SMOKE

What I find very strange about alcohol withdrawals is the fact that while benzodiazepines are used to treat alcohol withdrawals, benzodiazepines themselves also cause fatal withdrawal symptoms, while treating them as well. It's very strange how a substance which causes seizures during withdrawals, is also used to stop people from having seizures.
