If you have a choice, don't have a clue bout your situation. Valproic Acid I call Zombie powder, I was on it for misdiagnosed Bipolar. My manic behaviour was related to ADD.

Now after my 2-nd seizure, very recently, I was put on Levetiracetam. Which is horrible at first but way more tolerable as Valproic Acid. Especially after a few months when the worst side effects lessened making it even more benign.

Just take a little less GHB at first, to test the water's. VPA potentiates it but doesn't make it lethal (on paper). Wish you well.

I think I've brought this type of question a few times (usually when I've been drinking, which is rare for me in recent years), but Ethanol is safe in all forms, right? Including in the form of like Listerine or Hand Sanitiser?
I know some products like alcohol wipes and cleaning products have either methyl or isopropyl alcohol and they're dangerous, but it's okay if it's ethyl?
 
Some products have other stuff in them that is either mildly or more significantly poisonous to products that contain a lot of ethanol. Some mouth wash has a number of other things in it that I wouldn't want to be consuming. Hand sanitizers will often have cleaning agents and/or hydrogen peroxide, which you shouldn't drink. Some might also have isopropanpol or methanol, too (probably not methanol for a hand sanitizer).
 
Well, I wouldn't drink hand-sanitiser bc of its other ingredients. But ethanol is drink-alcohol, yes. just as Xorkoth mentioned: there are often several other things mixed into ethanol.
I used to drink pure laboratory ethanol and once also 2-propanol. Come-on is quick and it's a "clear" drunkenness. hard to describe. You will feel little hung-over from ethanol but super hungover from 2-prop. The latter makes you feel more drunk, though and is slightly more toxic.

When I was an alcohol I used to drink mouthwash by the litre when I couldn't get vodka (or other alcohol) as Listerine Original, for example, is 28% ABV (or 56 proof) and I didn't get ill although sometimes I'd get really bad, green, diarrhoea.

I did make sure the sanitizer was ethanol and not isopropanol.

I talking about drinking maybe like 2oz, not a shit-ton...I will check the label for peroxide, though. That is concerning.

Again, obviously, I would chose any real alcohol if that was an option.
 
Some shady hand or dollar store hand sanitizers substitute cheaper alcohols (while continuing to list ethyl alcohol on the label) so exercise caution.

Some mouth washes contain thymol (a vaguely propofol like compound) which in large amounts will possibly enhance GABAA in a clinically significant fashion. This, when combined with alcohol, could be problematic.

I'll probably actually look out for thymol but I'll be careful if I do. Part of the reason I'm drinking this stuff is because I'm out of Gabapentin atm so the extra GABAA would be helpful.

Oh and sorry about the chemical thread you had to close btw. I honestly didn't know it was a no-go.

EDIT: I live in the UK which has MUCH stricter False Advertising guide-lines so I'm not sure if a company could get away with claiming something was ethyl-alcohol if it wasn't (even if it's not intended for consumption).
 
I too have been locked up with my straight laced elders during Covid and would be lying if I said I wasn't tempted to taste-test the hand sanitizer also. So I am taking instruction from your experiences/cautionary tales OP. Thus far in life the times I've been desperate enough for alcohol to look in the bathroom cabinet for a fix, I've only had mouthwash or isopropyl rubbing alcohol on hand. Tried a bit of each (separately) a few times. Mostly just remember mouthwash tasting fine except weirdly gross to actually swallow, so I never drank a ton of it but the effects were pretty much like I got from drinking ethanol. The isopropyl alcohol was different, wayyy more disgusting and also gave me such headaches. I have a touch of synesthesia and thought so much about equivalent proof of the rubbish alcohol to normal liquor in trying to calculate a dose that would get me buzzed but not dead, that even to this day I get a sharp pain in my head whenever I encounter the word "proof". Although I'll admit it's possible geometry class had something to do with that too.
 
Honestly, I've never understood what people see in alcohol. Yes, it's good as a social lubricant, but not much else, IMO. I dislike the taste - from beer to sugary shit like Fireball (shudder) to everclear. Worst thing I ever tasted was...what was it called again? That green, chunky shit flavored like wheatgrass? Jagermeister maybe? Anyway, the first time I took a shot of it with friends, I had to fight VERY, VERY hard not to puke it up all over them. Then there's the headache and general feeling of shitiness it gives me...almost from right after drinking it - not just the hangover. I gotta pee every five minutes, I puke if I have even a drop too much, and so on. In an "ideal" world where EVERY substance were legal and easily accessible at the grocery store, I bet alcohol would sell quite poorly. It's very hard to say what would happen with fine wine or beer, but most liquor is just gross, TBH.

And that's possible in the US? Doesn't your state test all products? No Stiftung Warentest?

See, that's because you probably only drank Canadian or American beer. I dislike what they call beer too, but trust me, it's not beer.

Come to Germany, we have the good stuff (well the south does)
Can't imagine anything that tastes better than a "Russian" (wheat beer and lemonade)

Maybe it's location-specific but I've seen vodka or other stuff that comes in plastic bottles which cost almost the same as mouthwash, I guess hand sanitizer would be cheaper but not by much.
I don't see how it's worth it, drinking that shit and risk getting poisoned just to save a couple of $/€/£ (less than what a BigMac costs, sometimes not even half the price).

I also don't see how it would be easier to hide, your breath would probably give it away if you drink a substantial amount.
Plus liquor is widely available in most countries, I think I've always been within a ~5-10min walk from a store.

So I guess it really comes down to cost?
I'd really like to know the rationale behind it.

I personally knew a couple of homeless people who had to resort to that on occasion since they were physically addicted to alcohol and didn't have any money whatsoever (and no possessions to sell), but most of the time they still managed to get regular alcohol.

In some cases it's probably like my situation, being underage and/or living with family or some other situation where a person has very limited opportunities for privacy and independence.

I kind of get what you're saying. I do enjoy alcohol but in the Utopia of which you speak it no doubt would not be my go-to substance. The upside of alcohol is mostly just a weak imitation of the warm coziness of an opioid buzz. The closest alcohol comes to having an advantage over opioids for me is that the alcohol buzz is less sedating and more stimulating and it almost acts on me like liquid laughing gas, everything seems terribly funny when I'm drinking. But I prefer a more sedating feeling and I'm sure there are other drugs out there that can make me want to dance and/or giggle without some of alcohol's many side effects.

The only downside to opes that I have experienced myself personally is the nausea, but there are other meds that can counteract that and booze makes me puke just as much if not more. And it also upsets the opposite end of my digestion, not to be t.m.i. but half the time I wind up throwing up and throwing down. And the headaches. And I get a bit aggravated sometimes because I'm stimulated enough to want to do stuff but my balance is completely wrecked so I can hardly even stand up without face planting.

I can't explain it though, sometimes I just really really want to drink and it's not even because I'm anticipating that it's gonna give me a buzz and make me feel good. I just get a craving and it's hard to concentrate on anything else. It can happen when I haven't had any alcohol for a while of course but the crazy thing is even while I'm drinking, like around the 3rd drink or so I'll be like "Yeah, give me a 4th one. Give me the whole bottle! Hell, just give me a whole liquor store, I'll drink all of it!" It feels like I'll never get enough. Weird.
 
Alcohol is a dirty, toxic drug, but its main draw, I think, is that it is everywhere, cheap, and socially acceptable.

It's also the one single drug that I becomes the dumbest on. It turns me into a retard if I get actually drunk. And the potential for blackouts and even dumber shit is very high.
