Alcohol Alcohol Megathread

guys, I'm not going to be swayed by ale, I'm so sorry :ROFLMAO:
I stay the fuck away from ale.

It's flat, tastes like vomit, never again.
I asked for my money back for the first one of those I drank in the UK
Dunno if American ale is different, but if it is flat like the UK, it belongs in hell and should burn there in eternal doom.

Flat beer. Heathens

In some cases it's probably like my situation, being underage and/or living with family or some other situation where a person has very limited opportunities for privacy and independence.
Thanks for answering! I know it's a somewhat touchy subject.

Yeah I see how that kind of situation might arise if one is underage and feels trapped with no alternatives. Hope you never have to go through that again.

Be careful with alcohol, it can be a very very destructive drug if you're prone to alcoholism.
One thing that kinda gives it away is if you only feel good and somewhat satisfied as long as you keep drinking, as opposed to stopping or taking a break (even a short one) once you reached a desired level of drunkenness.

I used to drink quite a bit when I was 16-18 years old but alcohol was pretty easy to get in my situation. It was mostly a social thing, but there was a time when I remember having a bottle of vodka hidden in my room just in case.
I was lucky because alcohol was never particularly addictive to me, plus I also learned how to drink and avoid hurting/embarrassing myself pretty early (after having my first and only blackout).

I don't know how I drank when I was younger. Throwin' up, throwin up in bed, eating a cockroach (yep, well that's what I was told) Ugh. Now that I'm older it's just shit. I only really drink if I don't have other drugs in my stash.

It causes the most problems out of all drugs, but everyone knows that. Yet other drugs are illegal, it's bullshit.
You never hear of a weed smoker leaving the house and bashing someone for no reason, you never hear of someone on some drugs raping someone.

It tastes like absolute shit, whether it be whiskey, rum, wine or whatever.
Does anyone actually drink for the taste or just for the shitty buzz?

This is not true, people commit violent crimes on other drugs as well probably most often methamphetamine and cocaine. If you count crimes committed by people who need money for drugs you have a significant portion of crime coming from there as well.

I fucked up the wording. I meant weed smokers. but meth and coke are only if abused.

India pale ale isnt flat by any means and is usually well carbonated, but in some regards you could say that it does taste more like vomit than pilsners/wheat beers given their astringent nature.

My brother in law doesnt like the stuff i drink, he says it tastes like roofing tar. Very piney and astringent but i like a huge amount of hops. Among some IPAs there are enough hops in a single bottle to provide hops for a 12 pack of pilsner. It's an acquired taste. Never flat though not sure what you drank UK though i doubt it was an american style IPA. In the UK ale has another meaning...

I've actually never had beer. I've had white wine, white rum, Scotch, tequila and probably a couple other kinds of liquor but I've never had beer or red wine or vodka so I have some significant gaps in my alcoholic education. I should have a chance to correct this situation when I go to college next year (plague permitting of course).

Anywho, I'm curious but slightly apprehensive about getting to know bear. I don't like the IDEA of beer much, when I try to imagine how it tastes I'm like "Bready water but with alcohol???" So does anybody have any advice about starting to drink beer like what kind to try first etc?
In Belgium there is a saying you can't die before you drank a Kriek Lambic. Which is a special kinda Beer and a sour Cherry of a kind. Delicious stuff. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kriek_lambic

The Agave in Tequila rock's taste wise all the other harder liquor's of the table ime.

I love cherry flavor as a general rule but this doesn't sound like the sort of thing the typical American college kid would be able to find easily.

Hey as long as it's carbonated.
I will never forget that taste of UK ale. I honestly thought the cask went bad or something and now it's full of rot, until someone in the bar told me that this ale was apparently "excellent".
I swear, i got PTAD from this.

I mean the goal of drinking a beer is that the beer is not turning flat while you drink it, or it starts to go bitter and disgusting. We even have lids on our bottles, so that we can close the beer inbetween sips. And they do it on purpose. Fucking madness.

Who know's Budweiser Beer is available over here. But maybe Kriek is rare overthere. I live next to Belgium, and that has probably a lot of influence on availability.

reading up on the Wiki on Lambic, they use airborn yeast's native to Brussel specific. Cool!

Btw IPA is def not for my taste bud's. But the sour Cherry's are superb. Not something to get trashed on, one is enough pure for pleasure.

To the OP, anything higher then 40% Ethanol/ EthylAlcohol. Should theoretically be diluted or it will burn away your mucous membrane.
Like Absinthe, which is around 65/ 70 %, is diluted with water. Some add sugar. Which will create the drink to become a white/ green cloudy like due to one of the ingredient's.

allergic reactions to alcohol are relatively uncommon. In people with alcohol allergy, as little as 1 ml of pure alcohol (equivalent to 10ml of wine or a mouthful of beer) is enough to provoke severe rashes, difficulty breathing, stomach cramps or collapse. Alcohol can also increase the likelihood of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) from other causes like food.

Some people have an allergy to it, we have to ask that question at my job before we draw a patient's blood. Its very rare though.

Honestly, I've never understood what people see in alcohol. Yes, it's good as a social lubricant, but not much else, IMO. I dislike the taste - from beer to sugary shit like Fireball (shudder) to everclear. Worst thing I ever tasted was...what was it called again? That green, chunky shit flavored like wheatgrass? Jagermeister maybe? Anyway, the first time I took a shot of it with friends, I had to fight VERY, VERY hard not to puke it up all over them. Then there's the headache and general feeling of shitiness it gives me...almost from right after drinking it - not just the hangover. I gotta pee every five minutes, I puke if I have even a drop too much, and so on. In an "ideal" world where EVERY substance were legal and easily accessible at the grocery store, I bet alcohol would sell quite poorly. It's very hard to say what would happen with fine wine or beer, but most liquor is just gross, TBH.

To each their own. We all experience different substances differently. It sounds to me like alcohol just isn't for you.
I'd bet that alcohol would still sell very well, though as it is very addictive and also very popular.

I drank about 4oz and got a really decent buzz. I didn't experience any side-effects or problems whatsoever except a mildly hungover feeling later.
I'm not advising people drink hand sanitizer, but it gets the job done if you really have absolutely no access to any other form of alcohol.

P.S. If you DO drink it, I cannot advise you strongly enough to use a mixer! The first time I tried it I tried to swallow a mouthful and my stomach went crazy and I ended up throwing up in my mouth and having to eat a shit-ton of dorito's to make the taste/nausea go away. I find adding the equivalent of two "shots" to a can of Coke Zero (or whatever your soda-of-choice is; Dr Pepper is a good one, too) makes it easy to drink without a problem, though of course the taste is somewhat unpleasant with a mild chemical aftertaste. It hits you faster than regular alcohol and gets you pretty drunk (remember, adding two "shots" of it to your drink is the equivalent of adding 4 shots of vodka).

Some hand sanitizer contains isopropyl myristate which burns your tongue and mouth up and can't be too good for your stomach. When you mix with salt it seperates the gel form the liquid and alcohol to drink but the burning mouth thing with the small amount of isopropyl myristate always troubled me enough to not drink very much of it. The listerine gold is much better to drink than the green one as it has sorbitol which in the amounts to catch a buzz will give you bad diarrhea. Cheap vodka would always be the best solution as it's actually meant to be ingested.

This is in a situation where getting any proper drinking alcohol is just not gonna happen; it has nothing to do with prices or money. I also made SURE it was ethanol, not isopropanol.

I was gonna write in this thread that the damage to the stomach lining can be pretty bad. If you’re drinking this stuff a lot expect ulcers.

It is but when you get it it probably won't be in a fridge so you'll have to refrigerate it when you get home

As for alcohol, I can live without it but use it out of convenience and only beer anymore. I have a fast metabolism so it's hard for me to get very drunk and if I do I can stop for 2 or 3 hours and be almost completely sober. I guess I drink for the buzz but it's not exactly a feeling I seek out

That’s what I’m saying, even the hand sanitizers that were ethanol that i had in the past also had not isopropanol but isopropyl myristate in small amounts as it was way down the list of ingredients. I don’t know if it’s harmful in those small amounts but I thought that might be what was making my lips and mouth burn, so I woyld be careful that’s all I’m saying.
