In a nutshell: I've been abusing Oxycodone for 8 months or so. Yes I want out. I used all my Oxycodone up as of yesterday (stupidly). I do have a bunch of 10 mg Methadone and 10mg OxyContins. I want to avoid using Methadone for obvious reasons, however could I use the Oxycontins for tapering? I was taking roughly 8-10 of the 7.5 Oxycodones a day (approximately 60 mg) and these OxyContins are 10mg. Can anyone help me with a taper plan please? I'm confused because I know these Oxycontins are stronger than the Oxycodones so I imagine I should cut these Oxycontins up, correct? And yes they are the new OPs. I know i havent been on a huge amount of percoset but i dont want to cold turkey. Advice on tapering with these Oxycontins anyone? Thanks in advance.

OxyContin is time-released oxycodone. So it would be the same drug, just last longer.

Thanks for the speedy reply

Ok, so should I cut the Oxycontin up into fourths or something? Is there a conversation rate? Or, because as you say they are the same drug, is 7.5 mg of Oxycodone equal to 7.5 mg of Oxycontin? And if so and I cut the Oxycontins up what would be a proper taper method be? Ideas?

I just came off a horrendous pill addiction as well. Used to rail 80's everyday until I lost my job and general drive to do anything without Oxy. I'd recommend getting rid of all your Oxy/pills and trying Kratom. The temptation to take more might be too much to resist.

I ordered some Kratom to help with my withdrawals. It's herb used in some countries to treat opiate addiction and it obviously has some opiate effect. You're gonna need raw willpower as well, but at least it will help extinguish your craving for OC and help with the withdrawals.

hey man. I'm sure you're pretty scared about the whole thing. You can get through it if you want to. It will suck bad but only for a certain period of time.

Tapering off oxy, while a good idea in theory, is tough to execute because you will feel pretty crappy even during the taper, which will in turn cause you to want to take more. If that happens then the tapers gone. If you really think you can taper successfully I would aim for a week long... any more would be spreading your drugs too thin...

In your case (60 mg/day for 8 months), cold-turkey would definitely suck but you are in such a better spot compared to most of the people I run into. So be thankful you haven't been crushing 4x that amount for 4x as long!

If you can't bear to cold turkey, my advice is to try and taper over a week. Get Immodium (Loperamide, an anti-diarrheal) at least 2x the recommended dose to ease your GI discomfort, which will exist for most of the withdrawal.

You will experience the typical psychological torment of opiate withdrawal... high-level anxiety and depression, boredom, feeling worthless. You have to do whatever you can to ignore this and concentrate on nothing else but finishing the day.

The other problem is you will have a terrible time trying to sleep. This was true for me and for the majority of people who've shared experiences with me. For OTC, take melatonin and doxylamine to give yourself a fighting chance. However, it may be in your best interest to obtain a benzo and/or hypnotic prescription drug. You WILL be terribly anxious and sleepless, so its not like you'd be lying to the doc. But please understand these are for the short term only....if you start screwing around then they will only replace your opiate addiction.

I cannot emphasize enough how helpful it will be to exercise. Going through withdrawal with and without exercise is like night and day. You will not have fun doing it, but its a hell of a lot better than going without it, trust me. Plus it can be huge in helping you sleep. Long, hot showers were a favorite treatment of mine too.

My habit was a bit heavier than yours but only lasted about 2 months the first time. I cold turkeyed off and had the 10 most miserable days of my life, but I kept on telling myself that it would end... and it did.

When it was over, I wasn't quite back to 100% but I would still describe the feeling as beautiful. You can get there man, just mark the days. It could take 14 days before you improve a lot, but every day is easier after the first few. You will feel horrendous but don't give up. Get rid of that monster and never look back. Take your life back brother!!!!

Thanks Elwood..but no time to order Kramton..

Hi, still seeking any advice on cutting Oxycontin 10mg into pieces to taper from my Oxycodone addiction..anyone?

Hi dramatica...dosage?

Thanks for the support. I didn't mention that I have cold turkeyed off Oxycodone and Oxycontin (I was taking both) before. Not sure how long ago but it was less than 4 months ago. It was awful. I only made it 2 weeks clean then relapsed. I'd like to just try the taper if possible. Any idea on dosing? And how to dose by cutting up Oxycontin OP 10mgs? Thanks

just take the least amount that you can take to make the withdrawals manageable...

No one can tell you what dosage that will be for you, and you will probably go a few days before you realize just how little you should really be using...

The goal is to make the withdrawals feel less bad, but only enough less to make it possible to get through it, if you find yourself thinking "I actually feel allright right now" then you are taking too much.

I would not break up the oxycontin because the gradual release will be beneficial for your purposes.

As the lovely jew above me explained, just find the lowest dose that holds you and gradually reduce from there at whatever pace is comfortable.

Check out the directory for the withdrawal guide which will give you lots of other suggestions on OTC drugs and supplements to help further mitigate your symptoms and allow you to take less opioids.

Unless you find ways to address the reason why you used after you quit though, this will all probably be futile like it was 4 months ago. Unless you have a plan to keep you sober after you quit, you'll likely go back. PM me if you'd like to discuss this further; I'm going into the field.

Thank you

Thanks for the responses. I guess the message from Hebrew is what I was looking for. In doing the taper I will have to eventually break up the Oxycontin. Ugh...I guess I will just have to experiment...I despise the depression withdrawal brings on. I am a depressed sort anyway so it's magnified by opiate withdrawal.

I'm not sure I understand what the "obvious reasons" are, for which you don't want to use any methadone. It seems to me that it'd be fucking ideal for your purpose. And don't cut the oxycontins us, as cane said, sustained release will help you in your efforts. It's basically acknowledged by doctors and junkies alike that the longer the release/halflife, the better for detox-type scenarios - opiates, benzos, whatever.

I would wait as long as you can; let yourself get a bit sick, even if you can only manage 12-24hrs, then use up the methadone, then use up the oxycontins. I suppose that the methadone will be stronger than small amounts of SR oxy's.

if you get down to a single 10mg oxy per day, that should not be hard to come off. I don't see any need to break them.

Thanks everyone

I guess 1)Methadone withdrawal scares the crap outta me and 2) it seems like overkill? But perhaps I don't understand the strength comparison of the three meds? My assumption was that the drug I am addicted to (Oxycodone) was weaker than Oxycontin and Methadone so going to those to taper seems backwards to me. I just thought if I cut one of the Oxycontins into fourths or something I could taper off from them? I was taking around 30 mg Oxycodone in the morning then another 30 at night.

I am rx'd 3 x 80mg oxycodone plus 3 x 10mg Instant Release per day for my pains.
(I also got 10mg Valium + 0.5 mg Clonazepam daily)

Could you reply here or Pm me your daily schedule, it would be better to send it here so we can all learn from it. I can then recommended a new schedule to help , I will try me best. i have done moe reading and speaking with people on the NET and in person (you would fuckin freak out just how many people are dependent on Opiates in Toronto , and they dont have RX's too, like if I did not have health coverage I would spend $2,850 monthly at my levels, approximately. No kidding. i know of dudes that spend $3+thousand and Im sure someone here knows way crazier stories and shit.

This forum is the coolest one I have come across in terms of people wanting to HELP each other. Yo will find the off asshole who thinks he is better then everyone and thats life. Every where......

My daily schedule, usually;

10am: 80mg - swallow with water.
5-9pm: snort approx 40mg - 60mg , with 10-20mg Valium or 0,5 mg clonaz.
(THE IR;s ... shit, I take them , 10mg each as required whenever)

10pm : 80mg - swallow with water.

Note: when I am bored or stressed or in more pain than usual I can increase the 5-9pm doses up to a full 80mg, some snort + some swallowed. The BEST way is to swallow. I find snorting is quick, helps with killing my pain faster and habit forming.... a waste.

Send me a similar sched and maybe I can help? Maybe not ... I would love to try.

Later.

Alright man put down the bong and listen to me: oxycodone is, for your purposes, THE ONLY THING that is in oxycontin. Oxycontin is simply a slow-release formulation of oxycodone. Arguably, regular release oxy's are stronger, given that they release immediately, not over 12-16hrs.

You said 60mg of oxy for some months - you could easily use small dose methadone and 10mg oxycontins to get yourself clean or at least to a lower dose. S.

Scoliosis...thank you

Thank you for wanting to help me. You're very kind. My schedule was simple, and I wasn't taking near the amount you are. That is THIS time around - last time was a lot more. This time I would pop 4 or 5 Oxycodone 7.5 mg in the morning, then in the evening usually only 4 for a total of around 67 mg (I thought it was only 60! Duh). I know that's not a lot but this is my third time quitting and I hear it gets more difficult each time and I believe it. Last night I took three 5mg Valium and two .1 mg Clonodines for sleep and RLS/sweating and had a pretty ok nights sleep surprisingly. I found two Oxycodones (15 mg total) yesterday so I'm wondering should I just pop those or split them and take one today and one tomorrow then be done? It's such a paltry amount I'm not sure it matters. Then I must decide if I want to taper with Oxycontins... And if I do decide to do that ...how?

You're worrying way too much over this man, you're psyching yourself out and it's only going to make the whole process worse. In all honesty, you're really smart for stopping now...67mg of oxy a day isn't much at all. Definitely enough to make you feel it when you stop, but comparably your situation could be much worse. So you should feel good about that :)

The easiet way to do any taper with any opiate (the longer the half-life the better), is to simply start with the smallest dose possible that makes you feel ok (not high). Once you hit that point, tell yourself that no matter how shitty you start feeling again in 12 hours or so, you won't take another dose until you hit the 24 hour mark.

Once you hit 24 hours, take another dose, but make it a tad smaller. Say you take one 10mg methadone wafer the first time, then 24 hours later take 8mg. If that doesn't work then keep it at 10mg for a couple days but after that you have to start working your way down otherwise you'll just replace the oxy with methadone. After 4 or 5 days of taking a once daily, tapered dose you should be able to stop completely. You'll probably have some lingering withdrawal effects, but they won't last but another day or two tops. PAWS (post acute withdrawal symptoms) like depression, lethargy and wacked out sex drive take a lot longer to return to normal in my opinion. You can't avoid those unless you get on long term maintenance therapy like Suboxone or methadone (which you definitely should not do).

There's no painless way to taper off of anything....you have to pay the piper in some regard. It's an inevitable part of the game. You can make it easier on yourself though by;

1.) Stick to a quick and regimated taper with the smallest dose possible.

2.) Don't psych yourself out into thinking it's the end of the world.

In a week to two weeks time you'll be feeling like your old self again. That's really a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things.

Good luck :)

You're right Eon...and I'm a Pug owner...ha!

I know you are right Eon. It's just I've done this twice before. Last time was only back in December 2010 ( yes just 2 months ago) but I was coming off taking a lot more Oxycodone AND Oxycontin. I'm not even positive how much I was taking then - it was just handfuls and handfuls! The withdrawal was terrible! I was bedridden for weeks. After the withdrawal was over I only stayed clean for 2 weeks then started chipping..which of course then became every day use. Last night I took a couple Clonodine and Valium and had a surprisingly ok nights sleep. I still have two 7.5 mg Oxycodone..then just Methadone and the Oxycontins..we'll see what today brings. Thanks for the responses everyone. I know my habit seems paltry.....

Your habit doesn't seem paltry at all but your replies ARE frustrating. People have answered you already and you just ask the same questions. How serious about this are you?

Wtf?

Put down the bong? What's your problem? Don't bother answering if I frustrate you. Fuck off.
