There are a couple studies now which show that you actually consume more calories if you ingest artificial sweeteners. The mouth/brain tastes a sweet sensation, but no actual sugar is available to produce energy. So you eat more later to make up for it.

I think artificial sweeteners in sodas are supposed to make you gain weight faster than 'natural' sodas because they make your body retain more calories...something like that. In any case sodas of any kind are a rather bad idea if you wanna lose weight.
Oh OP, dried fruit can help with cravings.
