Depressicaa
Bluelighter
I've been on it for half a year.
I've been on it for half a year.
I've been taking amphetamines on and off for almost 3 years, mostly prescription drugs (adderall), more recently it's been vyvanse. With amphetamines, I've noticed a perma-tolerance where it stays at a minimum 40 mgs to get a decent effect going (of adderall, vyvanse is more like 70-80mg). I can take less, but it would act like such a tease, a glimpse of what I'm really looking for. I guess it would probably still help with any ADD symptoms though...
I have such a love hate relationship with this stuff, it's like I feel great and I think I can do so much more and talk so much more eloquently, but really? I see myself doing stupid shit and overreacting like I'm coked up sometimes, and nobody likes that. I wish I had benzos so I could feel very in charge but at the same time chilled out. I find that I have to drink alcohol after a certain point to stop me wanting to smack some bitches.
I think that Adderall tolerance is way overblown.
It isn't anything as bad as people say it is. The only times that Adderall stops being useful is after I've been up for several days. Thats when it stops being fun, and doesn't even keep me up. I took a break for four days and it was stimulating at even a very low dosage.
I used to religiously take Magnesium everyday, but now I think that it doesn't really help with tolerance at all. It seems to help with sleep and the side effects of Adderall but in no way did I feel my Adderall tolerance get higher when I didn't take it.
L-Tyrosine seems to be a nice addition to it, and doesn't overstimulate me as many people claim it does (not calling them liars just doesn't do that for me).
Baking soda can always re-stimulate me if there are any amphetamines left in my system, and seems to be useful for feeling a little boost.
I'm taking a low maintenance dose everyday, and it doesn't seem to get any better or worst. I'm taking sub-euphoric levels several times per day, but a regular euphoric dose still works for me.
Your thoughts?
You're already admitting to taking MORE than what is necessary, and FYI... ADD tends to get WORSE when you take more than what is necessary, not better....
Everyone and their sister show SOME ADD symptoms, it's just a matter on the severity and how it affects your life.
Not to be mean, but some people are really ignorant
ADD doesnt get worse, everything does. I didnt read the person's post...but it seems like he takes too much and has a love hate relationship....and thats ignorant? No, its called experimenting---->abuse---->dependance. Also you seem to be under the influence that everyone has ADD, that is not true. I'm assuming you read the symptoms and said "Everyone feels this at one point" It is when the symptoms are effecting your life (School, Work, Social) negatively enough so that tou are truly being impacted by it. So being that you think ADD is made up, and we all have it (saying one is saying the other) you're bound to think someone who took too much ADD medication and became addicted is ignorant.
I disagree.
Tolerance definitely forms with this medication. It does with every med (please dont start mentioning antibiotics and certain antidepressants you can continually take, some meds build in the body; i'm talking in general) as your body becomes more accustomed to it. If you're not abusing thats good, but you are one person out of millions. So, no, your results do not mean the whole idea of adderall causing tolerance is overblown.
Why don't yoiu read my post
You reiterated what i said =/
Tolerance forms to the recreational effects, the drug still helps maintain a level of dopamine in the body. Any TRUE ADDer knows this, the medication always works, VERY VERY rarely do you need a dosage increase after you get the right dose in the beginning unless you abuse the medication.
I'd have to say over 50% of ADDers are misdiagnosed.
Those people who take the medication really don't reap the same benefits as people who DO have it do.
I don't abuse my medication, many people don't abuse it. Just because you take a extra one day, or here and there that ISNT abuse if you're using it for the right reasons... IE a long day so you need more coverage, or you got rebound because of the intensity of a project or something of that sort...
That is NOT abuse.
This is why I say some people are just plain ignorant.
Depressica is someone who is trying to understand, and giving him misinformation is going to lead him to believe the wrong stuff.
The trick with the ADD medications is using them as a TOOL to help you function normally, it's up to the individual to do ALL OF THE WORK. The medication won't do any of it for you.
This is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Stress managment, working on planning, organizational skills, working on personal issues, learning HOW to use the medication because its a BIG change to the ADDer.
The real benefits from the medication don't really start until about a month of consistent use.
A person with ADHD is used to their life being in complete chaos, that's how they function.
The medication rids that person of that chaos which is like lurking around in uncharted territory, they don't feel like themselves. That's why many people don't like the medication because they don't feel like themselves, it's a scary thing.
It takes ALOT of work, and you always have to work at it. It never just happens and you never get cured of ADD. The furthest someone can go is wiring new routines to their every day lives. But that still doesn't cure perseveration, the need for strong external stimuli and internal restlessness ( adult )
Thanks.
Well let me just say this. In every single pamphlet that has come with my add medication, it always states, in these words (slightly paraphrased).
"Over time, this drug could become less effective, and the doctor may need to adjust your dosage."
Go ahead, tell me you have not read that. Your dopamine theory is SO FLAWED! Your body naturally gets used to medication, recreational or not. When 5 mg used to reuptake the dopamine in your brain originally it may take 10mg in several months. Just like medications that effect Gabanergic acid. Your comparison is similar to saying that someone who has chronic pain, and takes oxycodone, and feels a relaxing feeling from it, but does not abuse it, will not have to increase dosage.
And note number three, A D D E R A L L is NEURO-TOXIC. Less that Crystal meth, sure, but what does that mean? It damages those dopamine receptors for one, among other things, reducing the overall amount of receptors, thus further limiting your ability to have your add treated. Assuming you are going to continue the medication, a further increase would be need.
Buddy i respect your effort, but it is Schedule II in the U.S. for a reason.
