Hello, I hope I am posting this in the right place. If not I apologize. I have scoured the internet for an answer to this question and have pretty much failed miserably.
I take 20 MG Adderall XR once daily, as directed, for ADD. I have been taking it for 3 months now. The problem that intermittently occurs does not happen every day (or I would've flipped out and declared "give me something else, anything else!) or even often for that matter but it does happen from time to time and each time it leaves me baffled.
Sometimes when I begin to "come down" (and for fear of flaming and people declaring I shouldn't be taking Adderall if I get high from it let me explain that I don't mean "come down" as in my high wears off, I just mean when the effects begin to wear off) I intermittently have a very irritating side-effect. I feel like I'm not getting enough air in my lungs. Not, like, I "can't breathe," just that the amount of air that is getting into my lungs doesn't feel sufficient. Thus, I find myself yawning intentionally, taking excessively deep breaths, and coughing in an attempt to remedy the sensation. My breathing isn't "shallow" or anything, it just feels like no matter how deeply I inhale I'm still left wanting for oxygen.
I'm aware that this is one of the symptoms of an allergic reaction, but I don't believe that is the problem in this situation, as it is not a regular occurance and it only happens when the drug is wearing off, not when I first take it or at its peak.
I'm 29 years old, of a healthy body weight, with no real health problems. I do smoke, but not heavily (although Adderall does for some reason fill me with an intense desire to chain-smoke, no matter what, that I have to fight hard to resist.)
What I find especially peculiar about this side-effect is that, many years ago (like, when I was in High School and early college) I used to use cocaine recreationally. Not regularly, but often enough that I would consider myself relatively experienced with it, it was sort of our Saturday night thing for a while there.
The *same damn thing* would randomly happen when I would start to come-down off coke. Not every time, only occasionally, and only when I began coming down.
Does anyone have any ideas about what could cause this odd sort of a thing? Is it some kind of wierd anxiety thing? I have had anxiety & panic attack problems in the past, but I don't *feel* especially anxious when this happens UNTIL it happens. Then it's just so aggravating that I BECOME anxious, which only makes matters worse. A friend of mine mentioned that perhaps it has to do with how much/ what I eat during the course of the day, but I couldn't seem to find any rhyme or reason there either.
Has anyone had this happen to them with stimulants? Any more physiologically minded people have any thoughts on what might be causing it or how to remedy it? I'd appreciate it.
