This is the first (could be the last, I don’t know yet) of a series of planned experiments I intend to do about "Tomsoing," as the Shulgins refer to it. Simply put, it was an attempt to see how Alcohol could potentiate (or deter, for that matter) the effects of Phenethylamines. The funny thing is that the idea did not come to me until later during the trip. Read the following for more details.
5 mg of 2C-I and 5 mg of 2C-T-2 were both dissolved in about 10 ml of water. The original plan was simply to see how these two compounds interact, and I started at an appropriately low dose to avoid disasters. The solution was swallowed in one shot, and it seems like the tastes of the two substances cancel each other out. That, or my poor tongue just couldn’t handle two extremely alien tastes at the same time.
It took one hour for effects to become noticeable, and even then they were still very subtle. At around that time I took a walk, which took about an hour. During the walk, the effects became a bit more noticeable. The feeling was different from either 2C-I or 2C-T-2 alone, but I could generalize by saying that 2C-I was more noticeable in the body and 2C-T-2 was more noticeable in the mind/vision. However, it was actually pretty dull, most likely because of the low dosage. There was a definite euphoria, though. At one point during the walk, I got the brilliant idea of adding alcohol. This was probably the most stupid idea I ever had on psychedelics.
So when I returned home, I was having a mild, relaxed ++ that I was really enjoying. I immediately took 2 shots of Sambuka (40% alcohol, I believe). I am not a heavy drinker by the way. Almost immediately, I was thrown into a completely different headspace that was nothing like any of the three substances when taken individually. There was typical alcohol disorientation. The visuals were intensified – now I was having uninteresting but hard to ignore OEVs. They consisted mostly of faint kaleidoscopic ripples and auras around objects. But I repeat that they were somehow very uninteresting. With eyes closed, there were VERY strange visuals. There were actually black (yes, black) visuals with eyes closed throughout the trip. It seemed as if the fractals were all black except for the outlines, which were coloured. They were very detailed and rather active, however, they were uninspiring.
I am guessing I was uninterested in the peculiar visuals because I was in a very uncomfortable place mentally. It was definitely psychedelic, but it was very confused and disconnected. I could not focus on my thoughts, and it seemed like my mind was running on its own meaningless schedule and I had no control over it. It was not a “bad trip” per se, but it was definitely neither good nor fun. I was happy when it all ended about 4 or 5 hours later. I ALWAYS enjoy the afterglow of psychedelics. This was the only time ever I had an unpleasant afterglow.
So all in all, Alcohol + Phenethylamines is a big no. However, it could be the fact that it was Alcohol + 2 different Phenethylamines. I will probably try it once more with a single Phenethylamine and see what happens. Same with Tryptamines.
