Not on a train, sadly.
This is the first (could be the last, I don’t know yet) of a series of planned experiments I intend to do about "Tomsoing," as the Shulgins refer to it. Simply put, it was an attempt to see how Alcohol could potentiate (or deter, for that matter) the effects of Phenethylamines. The funny thing is that the idea did not come to me until later during the trip. Read the following for more details.

5 mg of 2C-I and 5 mg of 2C-T-2 were both dissolved in about 10 ml of water. The original plan was simply to see how these two compounds interact, and I started at an appropriately low dose to avoid disasters. The solution was swallowed in one shot, and it seems like the tastes of the two substances cancel each other out. That, or my poor tongue just couldn’t handle two extremely alien tastes at the same time.

It took one hour for effects to become noticeable, and even then they were still very subtle. At around that time I took a walk, which took about an hour. During the walk, the effects became a bit more noticeable. The feeling was different from either 2C-I or 2C-T-2 alone, but I could generalize by saying that 2C-I was more noticeable in the body and 2C-T-2 was more noticeable in the mind/vision. However, it was actually pretty dull, most likely because of the low dosage. There was a definite euphoria, though. At one point during the walk, I got the brilliant idea of adding alcohol. This was probably the most stupid idea I ever had on psychedelics.

So when I returned home, I was having a mild, relaxed ++ that I was really enjoying. I immediately took 2 shots of Sambuka (40% alcohol, I believe). I am not a heavy drinker by the way. Almost immediately, I was thrown into a completely different headspace that was nothing like any of the three substances when taken individually. There was typical alcohol disorientation. The visuals were intensified – now I was having uninteresting but hard to ignore OEVs. They consisted mostly of faint kaleidoscopic ripples and auras around objects. But I repeat that they were somehow very uninteresting. With eyes closed, there were VERY strange visuals. There were actually black (yes, black) visuals with eyes closed throughout the trip. It seemed as if the fractals were all black except for the outlines, which were coloured. They were very detailed and rather active, however, they were uninspiring.

I am guessing I was uninterested in the peculiar visuals because I was in a very uncomfortable place mentally. It was definitely psychedelic, but it was very confused and disconnected. I could not focus on my thoughts, and it seemed like my mind was running on its own meaningless schedule and I had no control over it. It was not a “bad trip” per se, but it was definitely neither good nor fun. I was happy when it all ended about 4 or 5 hours later. I ALWAYS enjoy the afterglow of psychedelics. This was the only time ever I had an unpleasant afterglow.

So all in all, Alcohol + Phenethylamines is a big no. However, it could be the fact that it was Alcohol + 2 different Phenethylamines. I will probably try it once more with a single Phenethylamine and see what happens. Same with Tryptamines.

Dare I ask what on earth made you choose to drink Sambuca of all potential alcoholic drinks?!? Yak city! 8o

Hahahaha, thats because it was the only Alcohol available at the time. I didn't feel like going all the wayto the liquor store and buying some.

I like Anisettes, but I do agree that Sambuka is the worst, lol.

i had a similar problem mixing alcohol with 2c-i...of course, i had dosed with much more than i should have on a lark, and i was alone...so that probably had a lot to do with it. alcohol DOES seem to potentiate the visuals in a very weird way.

Does anyone know why they called it "Tomsoing"?

But if there is a rekindling of the effect, rather than the sedation expected, then the verb "to tomso" can be used in the notes. It represents the promotion of an inactive situation into an active one, with the catalysis of alcohol.

This is from the TOMSO entry in PiHKAL (Page 909). It refers to TOMSO being somewhat inactive on its own but definitely active with the addition of Alcohol. I know for a fact it has been used in other places in PiHKAL too (I believe some of those obsecure entries that not many people pay attention to, lol), but I can't seem to remember where exactly. When I find these entries, I will post them here.

Ok, I found one. Here is from the ME (#119) entry in PiHKAL:

(with 275 mg) Onset of both physical and mental change was slow relative to other psychochemicals. Very gradual internal stirrings were felt at about the hour-and-a-half point. These were mostly feelingful rather than cognitive, and were quite pleasurable. At about the two-and-a-half hour point I grew quite thirsty, and drank a pint of beer. Almost immediately, and quite unexpectedly, I tomsoed to a much higher level and remained there for another three hours until the whole experience waned. [The verb, to tomso, means a sudden rekindling of the drug-induced altered state with a small amount of alcohol. It is explained in the recipe for TOMSO.] During the experience heights, and in fact before it reached its height, talking was easy and unimpeded. The transference feelings so characteristic of MDMA were basically not there. But for purposes of psychotherapy, there were some advantages: fluent associations, undefended positions, and general bonaise.

I like to mix low doses of 2C-E (like 3-5 milligrams) with alcohol. I have a tolerance though so it may be a bit easier to handle.

Sure, I like small amounts of alcohol with my psychedelics a lot of the time. SMALL amounts, though, like 1 drink, 2 MAX. For me that's barely enough to feel a buzz.

Not on DXM though. I took one SIP of a drink on DXM once and it felt like I was going to have an aneurism. Bad combo.

I used to like drinking a bit on a come-up to ease the boredom/restlessness and whatnot, but now it makes me nauseous, especially with phenethylamines.

Nice experiment Jamshyd, I don't have much experience mixing alcohol with phenethylamines because of this problem, but I find it dulls my MDMA trips a bit, when most people seem to think it potentiates it for them. Maybe I am different.
