2C-E: One Dead and ten hospitalized.

^^@clayfig: so they thought they were taking meph, somehow discovered after dosing that it was 2-c-t-7, then incorrectly reported to the police that it was 2c-e?

My local public radio station covered this on my way to work this morning (this happened just several miles from my home), and according to them the "authorities identified the substance as 2C-E". I doubt they could have had lab results confirm conclusively this quickly, and a field test would not have identified it either. So my guess is they are taking somebody's word for it. Snorting 2C-T-7 would make sense for an overdose (though snorting large quantities of anything is of course a recipe for disaster).

But really this is all speculation, and the public may never know the full story. I anticipate legislation introduced in our state at least, as we've already criminalized a few of the JWH series despite no acute overdoses. At the end of the day this really can only be enforced on head shops, as most vendors leave legal responsibility to the buyer; it just makes it slightly less convenient.

It's definitely sad for anyone so young to lose their life. It's also unfortunate that few people can put such events into perspective, and see the relative safety of such drugs when compared to so many others.

Edit: my local public radio station also mentioned that 2C-E "mimics the effects of ecstasy"...typical media drug canned and regurgitated "reporting" (though I normally like MPR). But yeah, what the substance really was is anybody's guess.

The media often does report incorrectly, or cultivate hysteria for the sake of the song, but it is a fallacy to lump all reporting into one lumped "media". It isn't some goliath beast lumbering along (although I understand the analogy...), but many different people with many differing approaches, some bad, some good. I've seen great drug journalism, and bad drug journalism. It isn't a single entity. And documentation is critical....

On the topic of good journalism, check out Greg Palast: investigative journalist in the truest sense. But I digress...

I was at a party last night and met a girl who was friends with the kid who died :(

My mother actually started a fight with me about this because I questioned if it was really 2C-E, mentioning it's history of physical safety, and she just started screaming at me. She's a lot like the media. I understand the fear and emotion, but you just wont help anything that way.

very sad to here, regardlss of how it happened. I am sure (as probably most of you are) the full story is not yet known... Only time will tell if this will blow over, but its hard for me to imagine the US going on without a new analogue act for too much longer

One of the most irritating parts is that while clearly ZERO toxicology reports have been released, the media is pretty much behaving like its confirmed that THE chemical 2C-E made this happen. Is it so much to ask for some rational journalism? It's seriously sad that he had to loose his life, call him an idiot or whatever I dont care, he's a human and he's worth just as much as you or I. But the media isn't going to make anything truly better by making a molecule a murderer on the TV.

yeah I saw how they did that here, with a picture of some powder and calling it "2c-1" and blaming it for the ODs.

I don't use any research chems at all but it wouldn't surprise me if 2c-E is made illegal because of this.

I was posting a comment to the article, and right after I finally caught this. Check out the third to last comment after the article (this is a much better article than the first btw):

"As it were, an anonymous source has now stated that the drug sold as 2C-E was in fact a massive overdose of the drug MDPV, a component of "bath salts" whose ban was recently proposed by the DEA/congress.

"I'd like to shed some light on this, because I actually know what happened – I know these kids either directly or through some friends. I've heard what actually happened from several different people.

As some of you have guessed, this was NOT 2c-e, it was actually MDPV. The kid knew what he was selling, yet he still sold it like it was molly/2c-e, in 100mg capsules. Really ****ing dangerous shit.

The guy who sold these kids MDPV as 2c-e is actually friends with the guy who sold me and my friend MDPV as MDMA. Even more baffling, he had taken enough MDPV the night I was duped to put himself in the hospital. He was fully aware of the effects. I've met gang-banging heroin dealers more honest/ethical than these guys.

These kids run in the same scene as me, as well as the dealers obviously, and this has shaken the scene to the core. Very sad stuff."

Of course this is not confirmed, but it would make sense.

That sounds believable to me man. I live in the area and this is common practice. Not the the extent this fucktard was doing it usually though, but TONS of misrepresented research stimulants usually sold as "mollies dawg"

Isn't 2C-T-7 Schedule 1 in the US? This makes me wonder of how many people out there actually do a proper allergy test when they order/obtain chemicals such as Mephedrone, Methylone, MDAI, etc...

I'm sure most do when they get the more potent Pihkal & Tihkal compounds or the NBOe compounds but how many blindly dive into the Beta-Ketones or whatever?

I'm pretty sure that less people do an allergy test with new RCs than those who do.

Any more information on this now? I could see something like this potentially happen here, latest I seen was a few people got AMT and began sniffing it, so obviously it is supposed to take ages to kick in and they wonder why they can sniff (no idea why they didn't just eat it) so much without feeling anything, so out comes more and they had basically wasted between 250-500mg of AMT between them (4 people?). Although, what didn't get stuck in their nose worked after a few hours, but they are lucky it wasn't one of the more dose dependent RCs out there, like some of the 2cs that also take a good few hours to kick in.

I'm sure that they are treating it as an analog of MDMA or Mescaline, which they have always been able to do. It is not a controlled substance as long as you don't intend to use it as such (hence "research chemicals", not "synthetic psychedelics"), but as soon as you weigh out a dose and eat it, or package it, it can be considered a controlled substance.

The incident also sparked some bipartisan teamwork on Capitol Hill in Washington. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., who is co-sponsoring legislation to ban synthetic marijuana, called GOP colleague Charles Grassley of Iowa on Friday to explore the possibility of adding a 2C-E provision to that bill. "He is open to this and is going to work with me on it," she said. "Either we'll look at adding [2C-E] to the bill or possibly doing a stand-alone bill."

As predicted, that didn't take long.

^ Ironic, considering the possible culprit here was infact MDPV?

Well I guess this has been in the cards for some time. The scene is simply to big and exposed now - With bath salts and smoking blends leading the way to impending doom. :|

The stimulants, cathinones and empathogens will be the downfall of the rc scene, mark my words. Sure things will always be around, but we're going to see some unfortunate changes. RIP Trevor...

The jury's still out apparently. The latest article claims it was tested and confirmed to be 2C-E. The person claiming MDPV did have all of his information second hand, the dealer who duped him was friends with this other dealer, etc. We may never know the true story.

Besides, when have 'facts' ever been considered in drug legislation?

agreed, it was only a matter of time.
