Football 2021 NFL Season

Why the fk would I keep up on that shit. Speaking of keeping up Mal.. you think you can keep up w me on picking this year?

We can start a little shit talk.. and hell yeah bring on a full fan season!!

On a side note.. what if any reverberations do people see with the football experience this year?

Poor nsa... I haven't even caught up with the Green Bay drama.
There's been bad drama in Washington too. They were just fined $10 million for having a poor workplace or something like that, and Dan Snyder's wife had to step in to be co-ceo. Plus the whole team name fiasco. It's crazy, but focusing on the football side of it, things could be a lot worse.

I'm hoping like fuck it will be somewhat of a renaissance this year. Big crowds. Everyone glad to have shit back to normal. Focusing on the game instead of the virus or political issues!

What are your projections on who will be good and bad this year?
I know next to nothing about American football. But Tom Brady will be good as hell. Because that is how he rolls.

What is up with the fucking punt? Okay, 4th down, 8 yards to go until new 4 attempts. Why punt, why give it up? Just try! (Some of you are smiling there now, it is cool. I am a complete NFL noob and i admit it)

Because if you don't make it, your opponent is that much closer to getting a touchdown or field goal themselves.

@alasdairm + @deficiT

Okay obviously... that makes sense. Thanks. But 4th down is not always a punt, even when it is your defending side of the field? If you are 7 points behind your opponent, 4th down, 8 yards until 4 new attempts... less than a minute on the clock until full time. Then no punt, right?

What if you punt, and you have a ninja runner who gets to the ball first?

Edited... first sips of morning coffee going on... brain sleeps. Of course the opponent must anticipate a punt and leave one or two players way back down.

No it's not always a punt, generally in those circumstances where it's the end of the game they might go for it on 4th down.

I'm not 100% sure but I imagine that if someone ran down to catch the ball I think that'd be a completed pass? Kind of like an onside punt I guess. But I'm not sure how exactly that would work. That would be impossible though, unless you intentionally kicked the ball high and short.

I have watched a couple of Super Bowls. While smoking some super bowls...

Got kinda bored. I like the sport, American football, and the fact that athletes of basically all body types are needed. Runners, tacklers, all... But the pauses! Is that the commercials? I think it can easily cost millions to publish a short ad during a Super Bowl game. But all games are not like that?

Yeah the amount of down time in football certainly fucks with the flow a bit

I use to watch baseball and foorball every year when I was younger. I could tell you every stat when Sparky Lyle and Roy White played for the Yankees in the 70's. But after that 1993 strike I drifed off and football is the only sport I really would watch now. Baseball has a lot of down time. My last game I went to was a double header at Shea stadium and it was hours or tedium lol. The person I went with wanted to stay till the last inning.

Foottball has down time but it does move quicker. The commercialism screws with it for me. Make sure we see a million commercials at superbowl time.

Yeah, I mostly only watch baseball games during the playoffs. If each play isn't super meaningful, it is hard to get very excited about it. 4

The commercialization of football is so gross tbh. It makes it seem soulless honestly.

ghost, sometimes an offense will go for it on 4th down.

in most cases, this will be in a 4th & 1 yard or less situation. Anything more than that is too much of a gamble unless you have no other choice. The worst possible thing you can do is give the ball to the other team in your own territory. Punting gives your defense a chance to get you another possession, with a much higher success rate. It's all probability and analytics.

When you punt, the receiving team is allowed to call for a fair catch, which allows them to attempt a catch without interference. If they fuck up and don't complete the pass, the ball is fair game and can be recovered by the kicking team. The downside of a fair catch is that you can't advance the ball afterwards. It's a last resort and is mostly used when you see that the other team has outplayed you on the kickoff.

Alright Rodgers says he is wrapping up his sumer fun and about ready to get in football shape. He has a new attitude and I think laid back and partying may fit him.
