2017 Trump Presidency Thread

Wouldn't it have been great if Trump had ended up switching to a non-partisan mode, acting presidential, and not putting big monied interests first?

He could have. He'd have burnt a lot of the capital he had with the GOP in the progress, but I think he could have pulled it off.

He was always going to look after the wealthy...thats all he knows.
 
The view from the frozen land to the north does support droppers a small amount. Canadian news has far less negative Trump stories. Look at CBC (Canadian broadcasting Corp) still Trump stories, just not as negative. Media can choose to say "Trump made a commitment to policy X" or "in a surprise move Trump has compromised his position and committed to policy X"!

American media keep adding opinion in their reporting, it makes it look like a bunch of guys on the Internet with a Web cam. It used to be better, journalism was real, reporters today source worse then most BL members.

When George Bush Jr. was president the media were nice to him. The media in Canada made sport of him constantly. There is something odd happening with media that seem to behave like mean high-school girls. It is also the media that seem to be convincing everyone to do the crazy things like building a wall.

I am not a Trump fan, or a political fan at all. From my equally bias position the American media appear to have circled their wagons opposing Trump. It is fine to report on what he is and isn't doing or saying accurately. It isn't right to add hyperbole and opinion to every story. The alternative media is equally bad or worse. Everyone involved appears to be in someone's pocket, who knows what's truth in media anymore. I fear the media will tell you whatever gets them the most money.
 
Great so far. Deregulating everything that led to the financial meltdown. Soooo many people are going to get hurt and die but fuck it that's not my problem, I voted for Hillary so my conscience is clear. After the rubble settles and it's proved for the thousandth time that capitalism doesn't work we're finally going to get real socialism in America.

It's coming to the point where the machine is dying, we're reaching the end of what Marx imagined when he came up with communism. Automation will destroy all jobs quicker than anyone can realize unless some unforeseen jobs pop up. That's why I say let Trump and co do what they do unopposed. Let them destroy society. All of the stuff they want to do like getting out of NATO and the UN... etc is destroying America as a super power. Fuck em give em what they want. Of course at the end they'll blame the conspiracy for their failure but the sane majority will swoop in like always. The fact that they want to fuck over America right away instead of slowly doing it the right way through policy is a great sign, they can't even contain the fact that they're piece of shit fascists.
 
I cant see America ditching capitalism. The people are indoctrinated and largely compliant. Look at all the bullshit they put up with and believe is in their best interest...like user pays healthcare. Lol!

Nope..the next generation will be like the last and the ones before that...they will be given drugs...lack of opportunity and end up with gaol or jobs, kids, mortgages and consumed by the machine.

lol that you think Obama's regime was "socialism" says it all. He was more capitalist neoliberal horseshit with tiny crumbs of psuedoliberalism to keep the slaves happy. If you seriously think illegals are getting all the jobs and money while Americans starve then you are completely brainwashed. They are leaving in record numbers because capitalism is failing.

Obama brought back many jobs to America because of his bills but unacknowledged. We'll see how many Trump takes credit for. The best part is all these corporations who say they are staying here say they are committed to globalism and working on automating the few thousand jobs Trump keeps. Add to the fact that they pay little to no taxes.
 
Does it still need to be explained to people that capitalism must fail mathematically? I see posts supporting it and I wonder if they are serious, or perhaps have a lot of money. It just doesn't matter how much money you have when capitalism ends.

Noone you are correct about the future of America, sadly they are a nation of people taught from childhood to mistrust everyone and cling to 'old ideals'. If we rethink socialism (things are lacking in current socialist systems) and built a better model could we sell it to America? Socialism should evolve into the complete absence of government and a society directed by the will of the people not dictators, elected or otherwise.

Personally I see this as an opportunity to create a better plan. America is smart enough but they need to learn to co-operate quickly.

i am at a loss as to why trump's opponents and critics and the media aren't jumping up and down in a concerted effort to label this refusal to be questioned as the weakness that it is. Many would consider it as strength, but if he is called out to simply answer questions, and be labelled a coward if he doesn't, his ego will be bruised. he will be stuck, either stay his ground to confirm his cowardice or relent and reveal his ineptitude even more.

Lol, you notice that all of the areas that have the lowest GDP are Trump states? Of the bottom 25 states in terms of per capita GDP, 22 were Trump states. Only 8 out of the top 25 voted for Trump. So, it's pretty clear that the "liberals" are in fact working.

I agree with you and Dropper. The French media is far less biased against Trump. It's shocking to read what American media say about him and the spin they put on it. I first noticed it during the Democrat primaries when the NYTimes, washington post, and other media were demonising Sanders and blatantly favoring Bill Clinton's wife. British media has been nasty about how they report Trump news as well. It only got worse when it was her against Trump. I don't know how much money the Clinton foundation paid them to do it (some reporters came out and admited had HRC was doling out interview privileges based on waht they would agree to report), but they are obviously bought and paid for.

that statement is full of inaccuracies including:

  • his claim that he won 306 electoral college votes. he won 304.
  • his claim that it was the biggest electoral college win since reagan. it was not (obama won by 365 and 334 in 2008 and 2012 respectively).
  • his claim that jobs are "pouring out of the country". u.s. unemployment figures contradict this claim. perhaps if his own trump products were not made in countries like china, vietnam and india it would be easier to take his comments here seriously.
