What does that even mean?
I'm very aware of the fact that i live in a community, and that other people have needs that are different from my own.
Hence, i don't have a problem with paying tax, because it supports the healthcare system and welfare system in my country, and makes it a great place to live.
If that makes me "common", that's ok.
I find the selfishness of right-wing libertarianism really solipsistic. It's as if people that follow the sort of
looking after number one attitude haven't really thought too deeply about social obligations we have to our societies. It's not that complicated, really.
I've never heard anyone say, "let's ruin the country and make some folks rich" as their party platform. I suppose a reference point for ruin and rich is helpful, also a dose of reality and reading between the lines. I'm still convinced we are all Americans (this reads for US readers obviously) and just vary in our interpretation of history and vision for the future.
I don't know about that - trump's desire to "break a bit of furniture" was widely reported and part of the package he took to the presidental election, and won.
A lot of the stuff i read from supporters of his around that time was that they thought "the system" was broken, and that voting for trump was going to bring neo-liberal america (and various aspects of it - such as imperialist militaru agendas; turns out trump was bullshitting about that -
surprise!) to its knees.
The gap between rich and poor is
obscene in the USA - which is crazy, for the richest country in human history.
The sad thing about trump is that he's increasing this gap, as well as slashing support for people locked out of "the american dream".
Homelessness is increasing, and more people will die from treatable, preventable illness when the effect of these healthcare changes begin to be felt.
Obviously this didn't appeal to trump voters, but my understanding is that it certainly appealed to some.
Trump was "the nuclear option" for many disenfranchised voters - especially people feeling left behind economically.
Sadly, for those people, all he's done is to cripple the healthcare system and offer tax cuts to millionaires.
Robbing from the poor to give to the rich. That's oligarchy for you.
Sucks for the poor/working/middle class people that got sucked into voting for him, with his empty promises of "jobs" that haven't aventuated, and won't.
