2013-2014 Football Thread v.3 - Come on You Hull

The Premier league was dire until the 90's when we got foreigners in? Everything good about the Premier league is nothing to do with England? But you slag off Man City for being irrelevant prior to 2010.

You put down Mendo for being young but you seem to have no sense of history whatsoever.

And it's you quoting OTW's bollocks about getting out of the stadium to home as quick as possible.

True fans the pair of you, I can see how you really get involved with the clubs you 'support'. Walking back from football grounds, taking the streets with thousands of 'your own' - that's what getting involved is about. Not running home after leaving the ground early.

Getting the kids involved OTW? I regularly used to take my son to the old Highbury. £15 for me and a fiver for him. That's how you get kids involved. Don't make me laugh at the price of "family tickets" now. Probably seen as a bargain to your narrow-minded, I'm alright Jack attitude. Oh and do you think every fucking stadium before the Emirates had 97% restricted view? Do you think they all had seats MILES from the pitch action? Your post exemplified the gentrification of football post-Sky takeover.

And baooozs your bit about the Italian leagues dominating while English football is shit - laughable. You acknowledge Liverpools European dominance (while ignoring Villa and Forest because you probably haven't even heard of them....irrelevant before 1995 eh?) And praise an Italian league that has been proven to be entirely corrupt through that period AND full of the most tedious games of 1-0 and 0-0 football and league has ever witnessed.

And before you start - I'm an ABU. Can't fucking stand Utd. Spent most of my footballing days at Highbury. So no tribalism here. I just think Mendo is far more correct than you and a lot of what you say betrays an attitude to football these days I despise.

.

You clearly show you know fuck all about football, Serie A in the nineties was better than anything the PL has had on offer since forever, dull 1-0 games? Are you high? Those were the glorious days of Italian football, tons of goals and high scores.

Wish I hadn't just checked the football scores, Ipswich Town down 0-3,really needed to try and close the points gap a bit.

I'm going back before the 90's before you start your fascist shit-stirring ok? Were Liverpool the dominant team in the 90's? Forest? Villa?

Italian football was shite in that period. And corrupt as fuck like the rest of your beloved shithole of a country (though I grant you have nice scenery in the Alps).

thank you for your post shm. i'm watching the united match so i'll give as brief a response as possible.

i wasn't bashing manchester city for being irrelevant. just merely stating that for me, as someone that doesn't live in england to pay money in order to visit a stadium that holds no historical relevance to football would be a waste of my money. i would prioritize visiting about 10-15 stadiums in spain, portugal, and italy before i step foot in any stadium other than the emirates in england.

mendo, in another attempt at a cheap dig insinuated that the since i have no desire to visit the etihad my opinion on football shouldn't count. and that since he's "been to his fair share of games" his opinion is all the more valuable. that's laughable and with all due respect, i've met bucket loads of englishmen that have the exact same outlook. guys that know nothing about football, but think that because the best league in the world happens to exist in england all of a sudden they're football guru's. 99% of the pundits you see on tv are the exact same. an unknown ex leeds player that starts talking about the heart and soul of the english game, overrated english players, and how football should be played like he knows it all. "i can't for the life me understand why he's passing it out of the back when he could have kicked the ball up field etc."

please don't begin to compare forrest and villa to teams in italy and spain. and wasn't it me last week that responded to someone asking about forrest? why don't you look at my response since you think i need a history lesson.

having said that, it's common knowledge that it was 1 - italy/spain ; 2 - england in terms of being the best. the tables have only turned since the 90's. those two teams have 3 european cups between the pair of them.

look at the best players to ever grace football, maradonna, beckenbauer, cruyff, eusebio, ronaldo and hundreds more all played outside of england. they all played for milan, inter, real madrid, barcelona. which legends of the game played in england? maybe just one? george best. it's common knowledge that football in england was played at a snails pace. even arsenal were known as a boring team under george graham. england were renowned for their long ball game. this isn't my opinion, this is fact from an objective point of view no matter how much you disagree.

i'm sorry if i came off as harsh. there are many qualities that i think england bring to the game. they have a special fighting spirit and never say die attitude but that doesn't stop me from resenting the facts.

in terms of foreign ownership, i am FOR foreign ownership not against it. i am for foreign ownership when it's done the correct way. meaning no artificial cash injections but instead focusing on building a sustainable model (which is beginning to happen now). instead of pouring money down the drain on players and wages, investing in youth academies and stadiums.

perks of foreign ownership:

- better sports science
- better diet regimes
- better stadiums (like the emirates, like the new stadium that city are trying to build)
- more competition
- better football

basically everything. everything you see now in the modern "english" game, that makes it the most watched league in the world and the most profitable in turn benefiting englands economy is directly tied to foreign investment. so before you open your mouths about fans that never visited english stadiums remember why it is exactly that english teams are the way they are. foreigners. some of which have the money to buy a shirt to support their club but not the luxury to walk down the street and watch a game. you can share mendo's point of view, i respect your opinion but i completely and whole hardheartedly disagree.

In your post you mentioned the period before 1995 so you were indeed talking about the nineties, at least the first half of the decade, when Serie A was far from being shit(CL final 1994 for an example). Also don't see how relevant the personal insults are, but I guess it's just further proof of your character, a pathetic, sad, bitter old failure of a man. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

no need for the personal insults guys. shm your first post was great. no need to diss others who differ in view. banter is okay but stuff like "italy is a shithole" etc isn't that great and discourages conversation.

I am aware I am talking to an Italian fascist who supports the inequality of black people, adores La Pens wife, loves to see women getting the shit beat out of them etc. All documented in earlier posts of his.

Compared to all that, a) I'm amazed I address him at all b) that shit doesn't happen in a void. He started with the "you know fuck all" because of all that stuff I've just said (and his awareness I don't like avowed fascist scum like Mental Kenny). He was the one bringing personal feelings into the discussion. " Italy being a corrupt shithole" was banter by comparison (and qualified with acknowledgement of the Alps).

I have no time for fascists. I accept you may agree to differ.

alright shm. just use the ignore function and/or the report feature. for now lets keep stuff like that out of the football thread.

1-0 united. looks like no upsets today.

I think OTW would prefer a cannonball perhaps LOL indeed.

I'd actually prefer to slip out and meet at the pub ASAP, not trying to funnel 20000 punters into a corridor 3 people wide. No fun walking a 5 year old out of a human crush, particularly when it's past their bedtime. That's how you'll get kids at a game, not cramming them in a non seated section for £15.

Then again I am fortunate to be able to watch a match with a beer or a scotch, and able to have a piss at half time and be back at my seat with food and not miss a minute of action.

Most games I've left have not been into a funnel/three people wide road.

My kid used to enjoy this bit and misses the empowerment of it now.

Family enclosures were always seated sections, never stood (through no choice) at a game in my life with my kid, certainly not away form professional football. I remind you my kid paid a fiver at Highbury.

Good luck with the private box type arrangement you seem to revel in.

Like I'd waste seafood platter and all you can drink on a 7 yr old.

As responsible adults even the unclean masses here are allowed to drink in the stands

-United looked so much better w/Januzaj on the wing and Kagawa in the hole. 2nd half was the best I've seen then play in a while. Januzaj wasn't on the score sheet but both goals went through him.
-Gus Poyet has Sunderland playing some decent football. Looking good to stay afloat atm. Cardiff are in ruins.
-Chelsea at the top of the table (albeit probably just for a few hours) and are just beginning t,o put the puzzle together. Hazard is playing out of his mind right now. If PSG are serious about signing him, they better come w/100m + cause 40m is a joke.:p
-the Puncheon PK was one of the all time worst friggin hell* 8o
-seems like Everton only scores golazos. That Barry strike was a rocket.** Mirallas free kick was special as well.

Dutch media claim Clarence Seedorf is the new manager of AC Milan as of today. The guy is such a legend, too bad most managers of the Dutch squad were too afraid of him to include him in the national team

Blackburn seem to be holding out well for the time being against Man City. Now I've said that the goals will no doubt start flying in & make me look a fool.
Wouldn't be the first time.
