^ Right you, calm it. A simple yes would have been fine.
the Magna Carta.
An identity few actual Britons believe in, hence the (real) British tradition of self-mockery.
A fucking admirable one
Oh my fucking (dark, non-Christian) lord, not that pile of tripe.
That was just a few concessions from a ridiculous hereditary monarch to an equally-ridiculous 'nobility'; a trend which has been echoed in that laughable, class-diseased "traditional" British identity ever since. An identity few actual Britons believe in, hence the (real) British tradition of self-mockery.
A fucking admirable one, too, and one which jingoists easily lose sight of.
I think Sam probably see's it as his & the people around him's tradition of self-mockery. It's the same for me. Yet I do realise that the majority of the people in the country must not be like this based on you saying that the fucking Daily Mail is the biggest selling newspaper, among other things. I just don't know where these people actually are, they are definitely in the incredibly small minority when it comes to the people I have any sort of contact with.
Sam seems to surround himself with feminists and socialists
If you take the piss out of anything they believe in expect a "that's not funny. That's not a joke" retort.
If anyone I know ever said that, & it has happened - one girl I know is like that & takes her "Free Palestine" shit incredibly seriously, then it's just a massive invitation to get continuously tortured about it lol.
She's actually going to Palestine soon, fuck knows what for exactly. I was saying to her "You going over to wave banners & shout "FREE ISRAEL" aye?" She's from fucking Essex or somewhere nearby & quite often doesn't click on to the fact that you're completely taking the piss so gives pure serious answers - "No, it's "FREE PALESTIIIIIIIIIINE" hahaha. I also said she was going over there to be a suicide bomber... that didn't go down too well![]()
Only in my wank fantasies and maybe at the best parties. Incidentally, all ultra-pinkos and lesbians are particularly welcome this evening. I'm feeling kinda funny.
Generally I'm surrounded by working-class Mancunians. None of whom would identify with the "traditional Britain" promoted by the Mail, though they may be amongst its circulation figures.
I generally end up with whoever's unfortunate enough that evening. But yeah, my long-term relationships (for what they're worth) have generally been with women of the feminist persuasion. Which isn't at all uncommon in my chosen social circles.
What I'm saying is that I don't live in a 'progressive' bubble, as you may think I do - most of my daily interaction is with 'ordinary' people with families and all that scary shit we non-traditionalist weirdos inherently fear and despise.
So I do have some kind of perspective which I feel you're not giving me credit for.
Where did I say I hate my country or my culture? I hate the fact that our country is a mere shadow of it's former self and that every day that goes past we lose a little more of our standing in the world. The shitness of our Olympics is just going to be evidence of this. It's like you have never read a single politics related post of mine before or something.
