Unless admin coughs up or the mods chip in for a decent prize to the winner, maybe better doing it down the bookies. A £10 winning correct scores double will pay for a good weekend in Amsterdam.
Instead of buying a lotto ticket, I put £1 each Saturday on a 15-25 'both teams to score' accumulator. Nearest I came was 16 out of 17, for which there's no prize, but one day my ship will come in. Does any BLer make money from their football betting?
Anyone doing correct score doubles etc or 15 team both to score accumulators, the bookies will be rolling out the red carpets for them to come in. Even doing 6-7 team win accumulators is ridiculously difficult and a sure way of losing money. Way too many things can go wrong.
Biggest mistake punters make is doing 8+ team accumulators for the 3 o'clock Saturday kick-off, adding in teams to juice up or fatten up the bet and expecting to collect the big win by 5 o'clock! Instead of doing that try researching 2 or 3 strong teams(over the whole weekend from all the leagues) you fancy and putting £10 on it. Keep the odds low. Give yourself a chance to win. Theres football on pretty much 7 days a week. Maybe do your £1 both to score accum with 5-6 the teams for fun, but thats it.
You dont want to be standing in front of the box at 4.45 screaming abuse at Jeff Stelling cos Accrington Stanley cant score a goal.
Last line made me genuinely LOL.
To add to your debate - I used to be a high street bookie (William Hill manager). I can confirm that bookies do indeed cum in their pants the more selections anyone adds to any wager at all. Anything above singles is massively in the bookies favour. The marketing of the 'Lucky 15' is one of the unheralded bits of business genius in the last 30 years.
However...
Does any BLer make money from their football betting?
In my Archway shop a Greek punter (boy do the Greeks like a bet) used to come in every Saturday, football season only, and have three £5 accumulators each time. Oh did I smirk for the first few weeks, probably months actually. His accumulators were of 15, 17 or 20 HOME wins on the coupon.
Thing was, all those first few weeks he was actually coming close to winning. Several times he missed by just two results and on a couple of occasions by just one (and was no doubt screaming at the 1980's Jeff Sterling, step forward Frank Bough, for Darlington's inability to score a last minute winner against Grimsby)
Then he got 17/17. He got, IIRC, about £3,500.
Next week he got 15/15 and a few hundred quid.
Next week he got 20/20. We paid him 12 grand and told him to fuck off to Ladbrokes.
True story.
And, just to make it all more unbelievable - I was the unluckiest bookie ever. In that same shop, where I only stayed 15 months, we had another punter who was even more of a mug...theoretically speaking. Every single day, 50p EW acc. of 6-8 horses. Never saw him get more than 2 winners. Until he did. £22,000 and his picture in the Racing Post (which itself had only just started....there used to be this thing called
Sporting Life....sigh). He went to chuck me a few quid with the words "I'm sorry if this has hit you personally". It was a common error to think we were on profit-share (we weren't). I then uttered the stupid words "Oh no, doesn't come out of my wages" and he promply put his money away with a quick "Oh I don't need to tip you then" and walked off. Fuckbollockswank.
His betting then went up from 50p EW to £50 EW (EW is for mugs btw) and only stopped when he'd given William Hill (not me grrr) about 5K back.
I really like the idea , but the only thing stopping me picking the Games is what if i get them all right!
I would be a tad upset that i hadn't backed up my predictions with a wee flutter.
So i'm in but i ain't gonna pickl the games too scared i'll win
Brimz you have as much chance of getting them all right as winning the bleedin' lottery. Let's call it 4 matches then - then you can do a lucky 15 on them.
