2010 World Cup, South Africa

My cousn is playing in the cup, for Team USA ofcourse. Any positive thoughts, well wishes and/or prayers (to whatever god) are much appreciated. Super nervous for him. This is like 10 superbowls at once...

Larr E, some of my best mates played in the last one for Aus and will be again this time.

Your cousin is in for the time of his life. Just the mayhem on the home front is an incredible experience but then there is the experience of being at the WC and the realisation that this IS the biggest sporting event on the planet.

One of my clients is a bookie and he took a bet to win $1mill on Australia winning the World Cup. He was actually nervous about taking the bet. I don't see the Socceroos making the second round this time. Too many players especially in defence are short on serious match practice. They really miss a more creative midfielder too.

I remember in '82 we were stoked to score twice against Scotland and to be on the same park as Brazil and Russia. This time our World Cup will be judged on our warm up match agianst Australia. After that everything is a party.

lol nervous? Wow he cant know much about footy then aye..........lol, I would have Aus at a billion to one.

My list of cheering goes like this:
USA (home country)
Germany (2nd home country)
Spain (good friend's country)

My choices are:
ITALIA(one of my home countries)
Bafana Bafana(another dear country)
Australia(because I'm here now).

Just wish some of our own countrymen saw it this way. Soccer isnt' all that big here in the states...

I was involved in a small way with the World Cup in 94 and had a magic time. It was huge and I remember the night that Brazil went through to the final. Pasadena was closed down as there was a party on every street.

The parties were unplanned, they just happenned and because of the mass of humanity there was nothing the police etc could do so they just blocked everything off and allowed thje festivities to continue.

I remember reading an estimate that more than half a million people were out on the streets of Pasadena partying.

Well, Ireland got cheated out of qualifying by Thievery Henry. So I've got a wee £5 on Portugal to win. I've just always liked the team, and there are decent paying odds. I'm not a betting man, anyway.

oh how i love irony

Michael Ballack has said that Harry Kewell may be past his used by date and isnt ever consistent(this may be true) - Link

and then he got fucked up in the FA Cup final...

I think once the Australian squad is brought down to the 23 players, it will be a lot easier to decide on how we will go.

We dont have the best of draws. But anything can happen on any given day, as we proved 4 years ago.

Just trying to work out how i can 1. watch these games without pay tv, and 2... scam days off work

Chopsy, your welcome to come over anytime you want mate. I even brought a really good quality projector in preperation...........Timmy Cahill on a 4 metre screen..........does it get any better? Seriously though mate, your always welcome.

Will be cheering the Aussies on. I have an extremely limited understanding of the World game but have been told enough times by my German neighbour how crap we are, needless to say if Australia gets knocked out I will barracking for whoever Germany happens to be playing against.

If all else fails I will be clinging to the hope that Mark Webber can finish in front of Sebastian Vettel in F1 this year.

haha..nah man not envy, just have a healthy rivalry going on with the neighbour. Although I will admit to a dislike of Vettel, I just perceive him as arrogant, maybe rightfully so but still arrogant.

Oh New Zealand.... (oh New Zealand),
Is wond-der-ful...... ( is won-der-ful)
Oh New Zealand is wonderful
We’ve got sheep, more sheep and the All Whites
Oh New Zealand is wonderful

28 years since we have been able to chant this =D

There is nothing like Tim Brown / for picking em up and putting em down.

I wanna know...have you ever seen Bahrain / Score a goal on a windy day?

Backing:

1. New Zealand (obviously)
2. England (because I live here and let's face it I'll get sucked into the hype despite myself)
3. Spain (claimed they were going to win every tournament since France 98, so I might as well support them now they're good)

Picks: Spain or Brazil.
Outsiders: Slovakia (because they're in the same group as New Zealand and Paraguay, which means they are almost certain to make the second round... and after that, who knows?)

Otherwise generally backing underdogs and teams that try to play properly. Will be backing Australia when they play, but can't see them doing much.

thanks busty

someone sent me that at work... i didnt think SBS had the broadcast rights anymore... but they do... so WOO HOO

my issue is... the 2 games that say 4am... is it kick off 4am, or coverage from 4am...

I walk out the door at 6am, if kick off is 4am, i should be sweet to do this... having a shower at half time.

I always have a soft spot for the dutch, so if the Aussies cant do any good, i would love for Holland to go all the way, they have a decent group, which i would think they would be confident of topping. If Robben keeps on playing the way he is for Bayern, they should go alright.

ps... Go Bayern tonight/tommorow, i hope they smash Inter. Its just a shame they wont be fielding their strongest team without Scarface playing (Ribery)
