2010 World Cup, South Africa

What's with this rash of injuries???

Ballack, Essien, Drogba, Altidore, Cabanas, Ferdinand, Beckham... for fucks sake!

Well Drogba has now been ruled fit according to Goal.com...hardly surprising with Drogba's record of injury exaggeration :P

But yeah, apparently Pirlo, Cardozo(of paraguay) and possibly Diego Milito are also set to miss the WC and Humberto Suazo of Chile who my brother informs me is by far their best player, a quick wiki shows his goalscoring rate is phenomenal.

Just wish some of our own countrymen saw it this way. Soccer isnt' all that big here in the states...

Some of our own countrymen do see it that way my good sir. ;)

MLS has established itself as viable with the nice stadiums built and a loyal fan base. Certainly it's debatable if futbol cracks the top 5 in a national sports popularity contest, but it's not like it's Rugby in the States hah.

I'd say expectations from U.S. fans are relatively high. The road to the knockout stage is challenging, but doable. Here's to hoping the performance at the Confederations Cup wasn't a fluke.

Oranje I'll be pulling for as well.

And is it just me, or is it incredibly fun to say the name SCHWEINSTEIGER!?

Love watching Spain and hope they win (they always get SUPER close then f it up). I really 'enjoy' watching: Portugal and Italy (they're animals!). I really don't want Brazil to win - just because ;) (Naturally USA above all, I'd want to win in any match. They just aren't a realistic pick)

Right you are! :D

I love the guy for what he brings, he's a phenomenal player, but sometimes I can't deal with his exaggerations. I remember this last season when Johnny Evans jumped up for a ball and spiked Drogba in the sternum dropping him to the ground. At first I said "OH SHIET! Well... at least it's a LEGIT injury!"... then he started kicking his legs like he was having a seizure and I thought "That's the Drogba I'm used to."

Good for Ivory Coast though, cause without him, they're sunk.

South Africa of course. I'm not very fond of soccer (called football here in France) and although that'd be cool if France would win, they really aren't very good (and that's a French who speaks).

^ Jesus... when will it end!?!?!

Drogba underwent successful surgery on his broken arm and is still holding out hope of playing in the tourney, but even if he gets to play at any point, he won't be the same animal with a healing broken arm.

NEDERLANDS this year. we are the best team to have never won world cup. it would have been great if marco van basten was coaching this year. hopefully bert van marwijk will use his experience from eredivisie to the teams full advantage.

Spain? :). Sure, the Dutch sides of the 70s were probably the best team never to win the Cup - although Puskas's Hungary would have an argument - but the current Dutch team isn't really up to those heights. Still....you've definitely got a chance...

Good for you, now go over and sit with the other losers who can't even polish the shoes of mighty Uraguay.

What am I saying, of course the Dutch will implode again with more bickering and in fighting than a Metellica counselling session.

I think that the US will do well and are a good each way proposition for 4th.

In my house we are lucky enough to have a couple of countries to support (England and Spain), couple that with the fact that I have Italy in the office sweepstake I *should* hopefully be able to maintain quite an interest with four teams to shout on.
