last year? i think that was 3 years ago (ss 03). it was in sept instead of june/july like it usually is. i think if they're announcing the date this far in advance, it's pretty likely for it to happen :)
I'm pretty sure it was last year, Chrissie. Right after you all came back and had that "Weekend at Burnie's" thread running, I remember looking up Stascape and happening on a site where it clearly mentioned a date for XX June 2006. I thought nothing more of it except "Oh, cool!" and went about with life. It wasn't until this spring that I saw that the date that was being talked about was not the same date listed last year. It could very well be that they changed it very soon after they'd put that first up. It could also be that I'm completely off my rocker. I've been sure about many things before, you know, lol. ;)

It's not the same date every year.

It's usually announced a few months in advance with no hinting before.

This year is the first time that they have given a date a year in advance.

:)

Starscape is a huge outdoor event. Multiple stages/areas, in a State Park. Security is uniformed Baltimore police, and they're very friendly. They don't fuck with people, as long as they're not dealing.

When people here refer to Starscape, they are usually talking about the whole weekend, not just the actual event. The event itself is amazing, but it's the days leading up to, and the days immediately following, Starscape where the real magic happens.

are there any americans here who have been to starscape and also have been clubbing in london ?

if so, then is starscape actually good or is it just the american effort.

really dont wana sound patronizing or anything, just want to know if the two can be comparable and what the cops etc are like at starscape.

Starscape is built from the ground up every year, for one night only.

You party all night with your friends outdoors, and in the morning you wander down to the beach to watch the sun rise over the water. People you've known for years as well as people you just met are standing next to you, watching the horizon as the sky slowly lightens until the sun peeks its head out.

I haven't been clubbing in London, but I just got back from Ibiza.

Apples and oranges.

But both REALLY fucking ripe, and good to the last bite.

:D

i've done both. the two experiences really don't compare to one another, so if you are looking to duplicate a night out clubbing in london you are probably going to be disappointed. in all honesty, starscape on its own isn't that amazing of a party. if it weren't for the whole bluelight meetup that's blown up around it i wouldn't even recommend it for people out of state, let alone out of the country.

if you're into meeting people from this board and partying down with them, then starscape is top notch. that's the real draw, so you'll have to decide how fun it sounds.

wait, i thought you said you didnt go last year because they changed the date, but you're saying they changed the date this year? because that wasn't announced until a month beforehand.

i wouldn't go buying plane tickets until a flyer came out anyway, just in case :)

Yes, Chrissie, I meant this year. Immediately after last year's Starscape I saw a poster online advertising Starscape 2006. The date it had on that poster was off by one or two weeks from when it was eventually held. I hadn't booked tickets, but had left that (wrong) weekend free, filling all surrounding weekends with other life stuff. It wasn't until I saw the thread in NA Social that I realised the date had changed.

I don't recall the site I saw the poster on, but it (the poster) was big (huge) and it looked official. But then again, who knows? Anyone could have scrambled together something like that I guess? I see starscape2007.com has already been reserved by someone this year too. Could be a squatter, could be someone who was planning on putting up a fan site with (possibly) some mistaken dates (again). Perhaps that's the reason they announced next year's date so early this time, so as to avoid any confusion. But we haven't ascertained that it wasn't them that did the same thing last year.

In any event, live and learn. I don't book travel or hotel more than 60 days in advance anyway, but gettting the right boxes filled in my daytimer sure helps. :)

If this is going to go anywhere, I'd say it's pretty vital that this be in conjunction with some other large-scale event and not just be its own thing, for reasons that are obvious to those with long memories.

That said, if its within my reach to travel to, I'm down. West Coast USA would be my obvious preference.
