Japan
The philippines

Singapore

That's all I can think of. Probably some more of the smaller central American countries and a few from Europe. Would Puerto Rico have their own team or would their players be on the U.S. squad?

I would suspect PR to field their own team.

Also, only European team I could really think of is Holland. Unless they're allowed Europe as a whole.
 
Will all of you guys cheer against the American baseball team for being arrogant like you did the American basketball team for being arrogant? Probably not, because our baseball team won't be 100% black.

USA baseball will be far from the favorite to win the WBC.

If anything, I'd see the most arrogance coming from the DR, and PR.
 
sorry, I'm taking out some frustration on you. It just bothered me that so many americans cheered against the american basketball team simply because they were "arrogant." I hope that there isn't one black guy on the next US basketball team. Send over all of our white players and maybe our country will atleast want them to win.

Why wouldn't the US baseball team be favored?
 
yeah I don't see why the U.S. team, with pro players, wouldn't be favored to win. At least...they would be expected to win even though other countries can field great teams. This is, after all, America's pastime.

As for the basketball deal Poste...I'm sure there was a component of assholes who cheered like that, but please don't generalize it as the main group of american fans. I'm not sure if they were really that arrogant to begin with, but instead were coddled and spoiled at the Olympics by staying on a cruise ship and not staying at the Olympic Village like everyone else. Plus, it wasn't even the best team the U.S. could field. The sad thing is, with this year's NBA results, the team that looked a lot younger and inexperienced is actually more talented than they seemed when that team was put together. Perhaps the optimal U.S. lineup would've had a similar result. Hopefully we'll find out in Beijing.

Oh...and just for TR. FUCKIN' DOPETEL.
 
Wouldn't MLB players be playing for their respective home countries? If that is the case, the Dominican Republic or another Central American team should be heaviliy favored. This would not be a cakewalk for the U.S.A. by any means.
 
I'm not saying it's a cakewalk, but the U.S. team should be one of the favorites to win since they're using pro players. This is not debatable. In fact, it's somewhat sad american fans are trying to play up the U.S. as some kind of non-favorite against small countries such as the DR. Yes, they will field a strong team, but the country with the biggest MLB talent pool still is the U.S., is it not?
 
A DR team would be comprised of pro players as well. In fact, I think they should be favorites out of the gate. Just because the U.S. has MLB does not mean that all of their best players are all American.

This is a possible DR team lineup I whipped together.

Soriano - 2B
Guerrero - CF
Tejada - SS
Puljois - 1B
M. Ramirez - LF
A. Ramirez - 3B
Sosa - RF
Olivo - C
Martinez - P

Not to mention having players like David Ortiz, Jose Reyes, Adrian Beltre, Rafael Furcal, and Victor Diaz all available on the bench. If the Dominican Republic assembles a roster like the above, that's tough for ANY country to match, even the United States. Just because the U.S. has the largest talent pool does not necessarily mean they have an advantage over the DR. In fact a massive portion of the MLB talent pool isn't even from the U.S. anymore. The Japanese has a strong baseball system as well.

Lapdawg, feel free to assemble a U.S. lineup to match up with that. I'm happy that we will finally be able to see it actually happen next year. :)
 
historical note: the japanese all-stars (including nagashima and oh, among others) couldn't beat the orioles once during a 1970 exhibition tour. obviously it ain't 1970 anymore, but go ask a japanese baseball fan who the best japanese players ever were...

so a lineup consisting of Helton, Chipper, Sheffield, A-Rod, Kent, Edmonds, Jeter, and Varitek is weak compared to another beefed-up lineup? Throw in a combination of Rolen, D. Lee, Biggio, Glaus, Damon, Walker, Garret Anderson, Dunn, Chavez, Luis Gonzalez, Brian Giles, Lo Duca, Piazza and Joe Mauer for a bench and I'd say the U.S. has plenty of hope against any team...even such as one like the DR's. Oh yeah...there's Bonds too...but I'll leave him out for now.

Then you toss in a rotation involving any of the following: Johnson, Schilling, Mulder, Hudson, Prior, Wood, Willis, Beckett, Burnett, Clemens, Peavy, Halladay, Buehrle, Smoltz...
yeah the U.S. has a few arms.

No other team would have the same depth in starting pitching. Relievers might be another issue with the DR strong there, but it's not like the U.S. is weak in that dept. either with Wagner, Hoffman, Nathan, Lidge, Foulke, Isringhausen.

A team that looks good on paper as well is Venezuela. Beltran, Santana, Miguel Cabrera, Abreu, Vidro, Freddy Garcia, Carlos Guillen, Mora, Ramon Hernandez, The Zambranos, K-Rod, Chacin...

Black players should boycott this shit. The only time blacks are Americans is when they put on a jersey or serve in the military.
