Opioids 17 Days free of Methadone (How long to feel normal?)

I feel like i have another 20-30 days atleast until im feeling amazing though =/

I kicked methadone cold turkey years ago in jail. It took 30 days to detox...the first 2 weeks were bad and it got a little better each day. After 30-35 days I could sleep again, and energy started to return. I had sneezing fits for the first 2-3 months tho for some reason. Anyway, yes, it took about another month or two after the detox part til I felt much better, more myself, happier, etc. the worst part of the methadone kick for me was the complete absence of energy--when I was detoxing it took extreme effort to do things like shower, comb hair, etc...

Different for everyone but after another month or so you should feel more energetic, happier, etc. I stayed clean for almost 9 years after this particular kick and I felt completely good and "normal" within the first 2-3 months. And I had a rough detox; tapering wasn't an option that time!

So don't get discouraged ...

thnks for posting! I know EXACTLY what you mean about the fatigue.. almost pass out just trying to brush my teeth lmfao

Day 25, 8pm.

Cold chills like mad. Lessened with weed. Sweaty hands/feet throughout the day, but mostly at night.

Irritability. Stomach hurts all day. Sides of my back hurt. Sleeping blows still. Wake up every damn morning freezing cold and almost unable to fall back asleep for an hour or two. Nothing more miserable than waking up at 5am.

I keep fantasizing about a shot of dope. Obviously im not going to act on it, but im started to get worried im going to feel like shit the next month or two still

It's amazing what your mind can do...If you're locked in a negative mindset and spending every waking moment over analyzing how you feel, you'll always find aches and pains. Its like obsessing over your car's finish...If you Keep looking, you'll always find one more scratch. Kicking methadone is no picnic, but most people feel much better after a month and have periods of feeling really good.

My friends father, who is 66 years old, just got off methadone last year. He started shooting heroin at 19 years old and was on maintenance for 20 something years! He started feeling better after a month, and he looks great now! Feels better than he has in years...He's 66, if he just sat there all day waiting for the other shoe to drop, I'm sure he'd still feel shitty.

Unfortunately, its been a long time that I've been involved with opiate addicts, and I know there's people who legitimately have PAWS or whatever else and take a lot longer to feel better coming off methadone...Most of those people IME, jumped off at a high dose, didn't do a taper etc. Or, they had horrible anxiety, pain or other medical issues going on at the same time...

But there are some serious fucking whiners on methadone, they take way too much to begin with, complain about every dose drop...just big babies...and I think a lot of the horror stories come from them

Wow, great post bro. You're right about the fact that thinking about it/dwelling on the symptoms increases the misery. When i kicked suboxone i HAD to work at my job through it, and that sucked ass with the fatigue and cold chills and all, but i think all-in-all it went faster than this methadone detox - sitting around 24/7 waiting to recover.

^And none of that was a knock on you Brutus, I know some people have a really hard time...It was a long time ago that I kicked methadone, I came off one mg a day...I was depressed for the next 18 months, but I don't think it was methadone...

After two months of cold turkey WDs from 2 years 160mg OxyContin a day I went through a gradually reducing dope-sick from my Bupe (+ Vape or Kratom, Gabapentin, and some valerian Root, I swear it boosts) jinky, wonky, weather? Doesn't fucking hurt, can be blended with Co2 hash oil infiused with Lame (Can't figure out the last word "Lame". we one shagged. Thanks for the the time tho. I I'm flyin. I got some herbs, the indicas help immensely. The GABA is mixed in my vape-pen. It's a Godsend and I just ate 1050mg of it. Plus the 3mg Xanax and 3mg klonopin. Bout to smoke some dec. indica, puff my last bowl. I'm down to 8mg of Bupe a day or less now, with a slight benzo addiction, but friends and family think I'm headed in the proper direction. I'm high, not sure if I'm still on point. Currently I feel like I swapped a Bupe + Benzo + a lil crys habit for my older MMT clinic days.

And back to topic. I was on 195mg/day methadone and quit cold turkey (just high dose Ativan to ease the pain) and I didn't sleep for 4 days, not to mention all the spasms I'd been dealin with.

ok, TO MAKE a long story into a nutshell quit Oxycodone 160mg a day for years and I cried and felt miserable for months+, and I'm usually pretty tough. When quiting an alkaloid mixtgure of BTH it wasn't pleasant, but certainly didn't compare to the Oxy/Dillies/Fent n swing whatever. I'm so lost in this post, I'm sorry.

Hahahaha blind melon i had a little trouble comprehending what you were trying to say, but thanks for the post!

I quit suboxone a couple years ago, can't remember how long it took but it definately wasn't as bad as methadone.

Yeah coming off bupe was always easier than methadone, but there are a lot of over exaggerated horror stories about kicking methadone, and most of them come from people on way too high a dose, who don't detox properly, and try to come off at stupidly high dosage. If you taper with it properly, and slowly, you can actually detox from methadone pretty painlessly.

^^

Well painless is a relative term. Compared to a full on detox, it's painless in my eyes. Ha.

But yeah if you taper very slowly, like the good clinics do, a lot of people don't even feel the drops in dosage. Obviously, the hardest part is stopping completely, making that last jump to 0, and of course you're going to feel some withdrawal. It can never be totally avoided. But, you can make it so when you do finally have to go through it, it is as painless and comfortable as possible.

I TECHNICALLY had a choice.. if you want to call it that. 2-3 months before getting off methadone i was using heroin every day on top of the methadone. Then I made the decision all on my own to get sober. Well, almost 2 weeks after getting clean, my counselor said if i wanted to keep my funding (free methadone) i would have to go to out-patient treatment 3x a week, for 3 hours each night, on TOP of going to the clinic 6x a week, and working construction 5 days a week.

There's no f-ing way in hell i was going to. Nope. I was PISSED. So the other option was to detox/taper, and i confidently chose that option and im f-ing glad i did.

Small doses of loperamide definitely will be a bigger help than you would think. 8-16mg. Anything higher and your risking going backwards on the withdrawal clock. EatTrenClenHard, i give you extreme props for confidently choosing to taper. Im currently on 70mg/day and pay cash. 108$/week. I am jealous at the perspective of not being free of the clinic and the methadone as I feel I am trapped in my location and unable to travel and visit family as I do not get take homes and have anxiety around the possibility of not getting dosed. I have a feeling this thread will help alot of people in the future!

Lope (immodium) is also an opiod, and though it doesnt cross the blood brain barrier very well, i'm not taking any chances that could possibly delay my recovery further.. hahah. I'm paranoid.

Thnx mannimal, i found it hard to find many reports of how long it took people to feel normal so i figured i could maybe make a thread people could find for answers, but it doesnt seem like many people actually make it through withdrawals from methadone.

Today is day 27, sleeping is interuppted constantly throughout the night. Upon waking, adrenaline floods, stomach becomes uneasy a little, very cold (it's winter here) chills, and i have to smoke a bowl to calm down again.

I never would've thought smoking dank bud 24/7 could be so unnapealing, but i find it more as a chore now.

1-2 hours after smoking my comfort and sanity goes from 7-9 to 3-4.

Fatigue, appetite, and hormones are coming back, but still not very exciting as the most uncomfortable symptoms such as stomache discomfort, waves of relief/withdrawals, cold chills, uncomfortability, anxiety, hand/feet clamminess, sneezing 30x a day, and etc are still around.

I feel like i have 30 days left until 90% normal =/
