Well I did a rapid taper detox, I've been off my multiple pain meds for 12 days now but still feel very weak, lost about 20lbs. I was on a cocktail for just short of 5 years, Methadone, hydromorphone and oxycotin was for a short time. I'm able to eat real food now just not really hungery. Using ambien to sleep, vistriol for the akastia symptoms that still come and go and low dose of clonidine. If it wasn't for that amped up feeling I get I would be doing better it feel alot like being injected with large amount of caffeine and not sleeping for days. Not sure if anyone knows that symptom feeling or if its part of akastia. All I know I wish it would hurry up leave so I could have a normal amount of sleep. Sorry for all the whining I should be happy to finally be free. I always thought since I took what the Dr. prescribed and no more that this would of been easier but I don't think my body seemed to care lol either way. Anyways if anyone has anyore suggestions i'm open to hearing about them. I've been taking vitamin B/mag drinking ensure/boost drinks going to go try a epson salt bath and see what that does. I think i'm hoping for a miracle that can only come with time..... God Bless Rhino

Time is the best antidote, a 5-year opioid habit is quite a lot for your body to adjust from.

Do you mean to say you're on hydroxyzine (Vistaril)? If so, do note that especially in combination with clonidine, it will make you feel pretty dopey as it's a sedative antihistamine.

Try reducing your vistaril or clonidine doses.

Yes Vistaril I think I might try just using it at night the clonidine my Dr. doesn't want me to mess with yet, I know it makes me slow but once I cut back my nose starts running sneezing just like the start of withdrawl creepy crawl skin thing is what messes with me most. I guess I just worry after so many years that getting back to "normal" feel like forever. Even when I was on opiates for pain I was getting sick due to pitutary gland/adrenal supression aswell as the dreaded testerone of 110. I'm just hoping I haven't permanetly screwed up my body. Again thank you for the encouragement and help. God Bless.

Addiction progresses over time, so recovering from an addiction takes time as well. You didn't become strung out over 12 days, so you won't be all better after that amount of time. You will get better with each passing day, so don't dwell on the bad, just focus on your progress. The time frame varies for everyone, so be patient, and take it one day at a time.

/cliche post.

Try lifting weights, especially working major muscles. A few days in you'll probably already feel a difference if you're actually pushing yourself.
"Boost drinks"? what? If you mean like energy drinks, don't do it, in your current state it'll stop you from getting back to normal.

As a fellow pain patient, I commend you for enduring the extra pain that comes with detoxing off your pain medications. I know what you mean by not noticing the addiction part when it is prescribed by a doctor and taken as prescribed. I don't know what your injury/pain source is but I suggest looking into forms of meditation and/or yoga in terms of developing coping strategies beyond narcotics and enhancing muscle strength and flexibility.

Beyond that, there are all the non narcotic medications which may benefit you: NSAIDS, Lyrica, Muscle relaxers, Tylenol, and if available medical marijuana.

Good luck

I had a long standing habit and it took me the better part of a month to feel 90%. Mostly all those pains I didn't even know I had combined with insomnia/fatigue were what got to me.

Drink lots of water, force GOOD food down constantly (bananas, chicken, fish, apples, beans, corn Aka real food), do some cardio/push ups (I know its hard just do what you can) and take hot baths every day.

A note about food: I tried to get fiber in me as well, for this I ate at least two bowls of "honey bunches of oats" daily with some kind of furit (usually a chopped banana). This will help keep you off the toliet so often if you are dealing with the w/d shits/runs.

I don't have anything to back it up but I swear the hot baths help a ton. You sweat out the bad stuff....plus the heat was great for all my little pains. Just make sure to shower off afterwards.

Avoid caffiene and anything for helping you sleep if you can. Use benzos and such only as needed.

Last but not least give it time, you improve a little each day.

Best of luck to you!

Day 14 and still feel awful, not motivation I tried to do a little bit of exercise put payed for it dearly, I so agree with the insomnia/fatigue I just wish my own endorphins would work a little, boost drinks are like ensure they have protein and amino's and I take slow mag/vitamins. I'm never hungry so I have to force down anything. I agree with hot baths it does help some, so far 4 to 5 hours is the best I can get with ambien taking a little klonpin 1mg split dose, I don't want to be dependent on that stuff :P I don't crave pain meds at all but then again I never took more then prescribed. I still have that fear of underlying conditions since even at the end of pain meds I was so wiped out for low adrenal function. the last test showed adrenal working now. I guess being sick for a year on pain meds and now being even sicker off pain meds it taking it's told on my mind. Wish everyone the best and look forward to anyone else stories that went through this hell.... God Bless.
