MINNEAPOLIS, Minn - An 11-year old boy helped authorities bust his mother and stepfather for drug possession after becoming fed up with the constant smell of their marijuana habit.

CBS Minneapolis reports that the boy told his biological father about what he had seen and smelled in his home that he shared with mother Heidi Siebenaler, stepfather Mark Siebenaler and 8-year-old brother. Using his phone, he photographed a Walmart bag full of a "leafy green substance" and handed the photo over to police.

The Dakota County Drug Task Force raided the home on Oct. 25, after obtaining a search warrant, and found about eight pounds of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a black scale within the house.

The boy told law enforcement officials that he often smells burnt marijuana smoke and can't escape the smell unless he goes outside. He has allegedly complained several times to his mother about the smell, but she told him that using the drug was "not that bad."

The Star Tribune reports that Heidi Siebenaler,40, who is a Dakota County probation supervisor on paid administrative leave, said she smokes marijuana for medicinal purposes. Medical marijuana is not legal in Minnesota.

So a probation officer was slinging and smoking only to get turned in by her own kid?

I mean...really ironic situation but while I don't think people should get in trouble for drugs, esp. not marijuana, she has probably busted other people so mentally I'm sort of stuck wondering what is moral here. She'll probably get a lenient sentence though considering LEO's protect each other for the most part.

I mean I'm all for smoking marijuana... But always put your kids before anything whether it be drugs or not. It was wrong for the kid to bust his parents like that I suppose and maybe his father put the idea in his head. Yet, maybe this will be an eye opener for his mother.

Poor kid to have to contact the police to get away from the marijuana.
The parents should have known better, really.

Agreed on all points.

What is going to happen to the kid when the mother is imprisoned? Ah the laws of unintended consequences rears its ugly head again...

If the son is not allowed to live with his father he is going to regret that he ever even did this. I myself was in foster care and even placement before. That was hell... Its sad if this kid will have to go through that over pot.

Dumbass kid should know better, especially considering that mom was a cop. If your parents get busted you end up in an institution. Kid gave himself a worse sentence than his parents will get. Want to get away from weed smoke? Foster care ain't the fuckn answer. Smooth move.

He is 11, I bet the dad put him up to it for revenge or something. How can you be sick of the smell of weed anyway, it smells great!

I think parental responsibility is a serious issue here. If it were cigarette smoke or chronic alcoholism I'd say the same thing. Of course in neither case would the parents get in as much trouble as here, so the law definitely does need to be changed to realize that marijuana is not only not dangerous a lot of the time, it's also something that helps many people.

i think this is the most likely explanation, that or he voiced his complaint about the smell to a teacher or counselor and they gave him this excellent advice...

Congrats kid! For your honor and recognition we're going to put you in a foster home and lose you amongst the other wards of the state. Home-based POW?

and the effects from being raised in state care are rarely good...it just sickening the tolerance to alcohol and tobacco but not too weed..if 2 ppl were put in the same situation but 1 drunk as hell and the other stoned as hell.. who causes more problems no matter what the situation is typically, the person on alcohol

Yeah and if he thinks he's going to escape marijuana smell in state care he's funny... When I was in placement kids were smoking marijuana all the time even some using heroin. And oh if you end up in a foster care you may just get abused not by just one person but by many. Well not even just that but sleep in broken bunk beds because your foster parent doesn't give a fuck about you and only the money. I hope his mother doesn't lose her kid or else he may just be fucked.

After reading this I instantly thought of Orwell's "Nineteen Eighty-Four" where main character's neighbor ended up in imprisonment after his children snitched on him for saying "down with big brother" in his sleep. I do not approve smoking near children, but damn, snitching on parents...

To be fair, the article I read said the kid had repeatedly asked his parents not to smoke pot around him but they ignored his request. They kind of had it coming.
