11 year-old boy helps bust parents for marijuana possession

I wonder how much propaganda and bullshit this kid was fed by his LEO mother that led him to tell police about mommies little habit at home?

To be fair, the article I read said the kid had repeatedly asked his parents not to smoke pot around him but they ignored his request. They kind of had it coming.
Indeed you're very correct and I agree with you, but it just seems that War on Drugs appears to have started generating distrust and turning parents and their children against eachother. We already have parents who force their children to test for drugs, call cops for them after finding a minigrip of weed and so forth. We also have numerous (unintentional or reasonable, like this case) situations where children got their parents in trouble. It just seems that WoD is starting to exhibit another harmful side effect.

In this case, I think that parents' selfishness was the bigger issue. The WoD would never have touched them if they weren't boneheaded enough to constantly get high around their kid.

17.8 million American children are continually exposed to cigarette smoke and have nobody to call for relief.

Actually, I just pulled that number out of my ass, but the number of kids with an indoor smoking parent is probably really high. Kind of makes outrage over a marijuana home take a back seat. I'm sure a lot of the marijuana smokers would smoke outdoors if they could.

^^^I agree if i could sit on the front porch and smoke a joint and drink beer with no fear of going to jail i sure as fuck would.

Wow, a friend of mine (a teenager) actually supplies his parents with weed, and they toke together all the time.

It's funny how different some families can be...

this is a complicated situation. while I do agree that the father most likely encouraged the kid to do this, the parents should not have just been smoking and selling constantly. It sounds like the mom and son did not have a very good relationship.
the kid should have had more loyalty.

Yeah and if he thinks he's going to escape marijuana smell in state care he's funny... When I was in placement kids were smoking marijuana all the time even some using heroin. And oh if you end up in a foster care you may just get abused not by just one person but by many. Well not even just that but sleep in broken bunk beds because your foster parent doesn't give a fuck about you and only the money. I hope his mother doesn't lose her kid or else he may just be fucked.

A lot of foster children get prescribed extremely dangerous dosages of multitudes of rather dangerous drugs like anti-psychotics, SSRIs, benzos, stims, and more.

Not saying those drugs are dangerous by themselves, but they can dramatically change a kids' psyche, cause severe mental and sexual development issues, and a lot more.

Lets not get this twisted completely... 8 pounds. I don't think it'd be too far fetched to imagine he was literally in a place where he *could not escape* from clouds of smoke or the smell... And while that sounds enticing to both the 11 year old version of me and the 22 year old version, I think I'd be a little pissy. it ain't like we're talking about an ounce or two here, some questionable personal use level... 8 pounds is straight dealing.

But still... If he thought drugs were an issue before, lets see how he likes the hard drug scene and, as Endless Summer put it, the cocktail of normally script'd drugs to young teenagers to make foster life easier for the caregivers.

Kid was probable terrified he was going to go psycho from second hand ganja smoke. You'd be shocked at the bullshit that gets peddled in school drug lessons. I heard a story about some kid who smoked weed and heard his hair growing... go figure
