panic in paradise
Bluelighter
there was one time i was around to see someone go into an X-Dream.
in my experience with this, it seems the "dreamer" is doing just that - they seem to slip into a "waking dream" or are suddenly literally "sleep walking".
i suppose it is similar to an alcohol black-out, or an uncontrolled spontaneous deep meditative state - where the mind flips into REM, and any memory or recollection of the time in this state is lost, or not retained somehow...i have read of people being hypnotized in attempt to recall time spent during a black-out, but the memories still were un-accessible.
has anyone been through this themselves reading?
or, been there while this was occurring to another?
-----my experience with some one in this state went generally as follows:
it was actually 9/11/01 in the early am...after several days of E cocaine and pot -
there were maybe 10 of us in an apartment, "celebrating" after my friend and i DJ'd at a large indoor/outdoor rave(mad hatters tea party ATX), when it came to everyones attention that my friends(dj partner) GF was rolling imaginary cigarettes, hitting an imaginary bong, talking to thin air in French(she was in the states studying). occasionally she would get this look of fear, as if she realized that she was totally lost. she would speak to us in French, and laugh or look concerned or attentive as if we were actually responding.
she continued rolling cigarettes out of thin air, breaking up bud, pulling the bowl and acting as if she was holding in a hit, and exhaling...this went on for maybe 45 minutes with other odd similar imaginary happenings. then she snapped out of it, as if nothing had happened. we, all of course were stunned, and have never been around someone in an X-Dream. she caught onto our concerned vibe quickly though, and seemed disturbed.
i do not remember what happened after that, only waking up to the Trade Center under attack. later, months later, she and i spoke briefly about what happened to her, she was very embarrassed and disturbed by the incident, and as so it was dropped.

right, so you follow me???
and again:
has anyone been through this themselves personally that is reading?
or, have you been there while this was occurring to another?
read any studies on this "phenomenon"?
this is something that has always fascinated me, but have not read or heard mention of it since.
