So Who Likes Benzos? Ver III: Blackouts and Amnesia

What reason does it give for this? I can't find mention of this interaction anywhere on MedScape or in my medical text books, nor with a google search. Taking an antacid before dosing will increase absorption, perhaps the ingredients in a dispersible aspirin tablet lower the pH slightly and allow for slightly more absorption.

Of course conversely, as aspirin is itself a weak acid it would itself be slightly less absorbed in the stomach if the pH of the gastric contents were to be lowered.
 
I think that a lot of people don't enjoy temazepam because they don't realise that it is pretty much the weakest (by weight) benzo on the market, so consequently you have to take a lot of pills in order to really appreciate the full effects of temazepam. Put simply if you're only going to be prescribed 30 sleeping pills every 3 months for insomnia then taking a script for 30 10mg temazepam (equiv. 150mg diazepam) is infinately shittier than, say, a script for 30 0.5mg Triazolam (equiv. 300mg diazepam).

I'm suprised by the level of hate for temazepam, if you can get together 100mg+ then it's worthwhile, it has a nice balance of euphoria to straight sedation. I'm also highly amused by the 'it's not a benzo it's a hypnotic!' bullshit- what the fuck? Benzodiazepines perform three major roles- anti-convulsants, anxiolytics & HYPNOTICS. You know Rohypnol? The most (in)famous benzo in the world? Sleeping pill. Halcion? Sleeping pill. Dormicum? Sleeping pill.

I only really enjoy hypnotic benzos, I never abused benzos when I had huge access to them (mother is epileptic & takes cloz) because the anxiolytic/anti-convulstant benzos I tried sucked! It wasn't until I left home and got prescribed some Midazolam that I realised that not all benzos are alike and they are in no way equal- hypnotic benzos are the best of the benzo family, imo. Temazepam, Triazolam, Nitrazepam, Midazolam, Flunitrazepam- these are my friends. I had to subtlely get my doc to stop prescribing Midazolam (switched to Triazolam, 2x0.25mg as needed, 60 every 3 months, yus) because that drug made me overcome my natural aversion to needles with a little too much gusto. Seriously, I don't use needles that much and when I do it's done with specific reasons (generally to trip harder/faster for less time so I can sleep while still blowing my mind properly)- midazolam had me shooting like a meth head, shot, booster, booster, pass out, wake up, shot, booster....and that's in between calling my ex's unable to speak without dribbling slightly and getting into a fist fight with some guy outside my house.

Anyone else only get off on hypnotic benzos?

People are categorizing their benzodiazepines so much on here, when really they all have a mixture of effects. One substance, say midazolam, may be used primarily as a hypnotic but it also has muscle relaxant qualities which in surgery are a bonus as doses of other muscle relaxants or neuro-muscular blockade drugs can be reduced. Benzodiazepines don't all fit into neat little categories, they have a variety of effects and some people will use a benzodiazepine for one purpose when it is generally indicated for another.
 
I know it can be very dangerous, but do many of you guys mix your benzos with alcohol? And if so which benzo do you think is the safest when using with alcohol? I'm not big on alcohol on it's own but I find if I have a few drinks and about 2mg aplro or clon before I go out, I have an awesome/cheap night out.
 
^ I've done it and usually regretted it. Have had huge blackouts because of it. If youou are going to do it though, one of the short acting benzodiazepines is probably best as if things go bad then at least you won't be in for as long a ride as if it were phenazepam, diazepam or some other long acting benzodiazepine.

I've done it a few times, and majority of the time it end's in blackouts/passing out.

If you are going to do it, tread very carefully! :)
 
Yeah I have had the blackouts before but thats usually from too much alcohol, I think I've found if I stick to 3-4 drinks I'm usually fine and in a great headspace for the night. Then again there were some things my friends mentioned about last night that I had no recollection of :\
 
The only benzo's I've combined with alcohol are diazepam and xanax. Out of maybe 30-40 times I've only had one serious blackout incident when I was around 15y.o? (This one was a pretty good life lesson. first time I had diazepam for a neck injury and was on about 20-30mg+ a day for a week straight. Even after not taking valiums for 12 hours beforehand I stupidly had ~10 drinks in 1.5-2 hours. Can't remember 12 hours, woke up naked covered in spew and with a massive chip on my front tooth from where I smashed my head on the toilet bowl while I was butt naked hugging it ;)

The trick to combining alcohol and ANY other CNS depressant, especially Benzo's - is Keep the doses low for both substances. Following this simple rule I have only ever had bad experiences a handful of times compared to many good.

I think this is a good rule of thumb when potentiating any substance! At least until you know your body + substances.
 
I found a good dose to put you into the ER. 200mg valium, 10mg estazolam, 1 mg lorazepam, 25 mg stilnox and a heap of booze...

Potentiated a little too much. Though i was fine till about 6-7 hours after consumption
 
Yeah good to hear all is ok. Nothing worse than that fucked up feeling from over indulging.

But holy fuck.... thats a lot of diazepam. I guess thats tolerance for ya.
 
^ Yeah fuck I hate benzodiazepine tolerance. I'm tapering with clonazepam now and then am going to take a big break to get it down again. Perhaps maybe do a little experiment with diazepam to see where my tolerance is sitting. ;)
