Pharmacist over filled a script - What would you do?

^ What's wrong with pharmaceutical companies? Like any business they have to make money, but still develop new drugs at the same time as well as deal with generic manufacturers taking away part of the market for a drug they might not have completely earned back on.

Wow, I didn't know Dr's could prescribe 28 stilnox's, even though they boxes don't come in 28's. and give you a repeat for another 28. That's the main thing I dislike about stilnox, only 14 per prescription compared to 25 temaze. But it seems I could be prescribed in amounts of 28.

It's not even listed on the PBS, so they can prescribe as much as they want on a private script.

OR avoid any and all problems by taking your next Rx to a diff pharmacy / chain of pharmacy and pay "out of pocket", ----> without using insurance

There is no PBS subsidy on zolpidem in the first place.

I know the pharmacy would probably realise when they do a stock count and find they've got missing pills, but I guess the only consolation is that the drug isn't as risky or such a drug of dependance like morphine or other strong opiates and other things although it is a drug that is abused quite a bit.

They will just fix up the stock count and otherwise just not give a fuck. Unless it's an S8, or a benzodiazepine in most states (excepting QLD), in which case they need to come up with an explanation to the DDU as to why the stock count is out.

I see the OP lives in Victoria; in QLD things are considered a bit 'looser' regarding the rules, so your mileage may vary.

I've been involved in wrongful scripted S8's, oxycontin 20mg + 80mg's and the pharmacist(s) have even asked me other times if I had been given too much as they were missing blister packs(of 14) of 80mg oxys. When I truthfully said no, they said the lines of "Oh well, who knows, so much stock gets misplaced"with them seeming not too worried about it.

I've moved from Melbourne since that has happened, it was a large pharmcy chain in inner city melbourne, crazy stuff. Seemed oxys were going missing a bit, say 1-2 times each year I noticed whilst going to them. I've even had some 'weird' script dramas with the new chemist I go to since moving, just them running out of 80mg oxy so I'd be given the last pack or two and when I came back to get the rest, no one knew what was going on so I was just asked if I had been given any yet. I bet temptation and gave them honest answers, I go through 200mg+ daily so not like I 'need' more plus kind of want to make sure I do 't get in bad books, I'm still getting to know the chemists as I'm semi new to them still(6ishmonths with them having like 6 to 8 various chemists
working in split shifts)

Some 'geek talk'
Sorry if any typos, just installed a new ROM in my XOOM tablet and getting used to the new keyboard I'm trying out, very different to the one I've been using for ages! But should end up with a better experience in time.

I"m going to see if this dick of a Dr i'm seeing now will do this for me.

The boxes are packs of 14, so they fill two packs normally. My doctor is quite good with me, I was seeing this real bitch who'd only prescribe 14 at a time with no repeats at all, but I mainly use it because tramadol wires me like speed would and the stilnox helps me sleep. I do like the feel of them and use them more than I do tramadol to begin with, but my doc I normally see now is really good and bumped me up to 28 and 6 repeats without me asking at all. I am honest with him and let him know if i've got any left when I see him every couple of months and he's always been really good with helping me work out what works for my severe pain and sleep issues. I hope to hell he doesn't leave because i'd be screwed without him!

Just wishing more luck like that would befall me.

I think I have a had a refill left a time or two that I don't think I really had coming..

What would I do? Not a damn thing. They are not likely to know who they overfilled or if they were experiencing "shrinkage". If their machines did pinpoint which script the tech punched too much of in when they compare them to the paper scripts and called me, I would make it right..... Unless it was my painkiller or a benzo. :D

Big pharm companies literally destroy thousands of people's lives, and you don't see anything wrong in that? 8o

I don't want to get in to an argument about big pharma, but they do a lot more good then harm in the big picture. Without them and the scientific advances they allow for, there would be thousands if not millions more lives destroyed.

Its not like they can take them back and give them to another customer, so if they bring it up jus say you just take as prescribed and "didnt" notice. youve done nothing wrong by accepting your prescription, even though it was a double size 'script, It is not your fault at all you got more lol. Even if it was some heavily controlled narcotic, if they give you more THEY messed up and the employee will suffer for that

I have had scripts both over filled and under filled! The were 20mg oxynorm immediate release as well as 30mg oxycontin. I get a real bad conscience so every time my prescriptions were overfilled I have returned them and pointed out their mistake.

I mean I know it's their mistake and they should check but a pharmacy can get in a whole heap of trouble for over filling a S8 prescription and that includes possible license loss. I am just not that sort of person to be dishonest.

Due to a opiate pain contract I am on with my GP he calls the medicare dr shopper hotline regularly to check up on me to make sure I havn't got any more than what he has prescribed.

So also because I am doing my nursing degree I don't want to get into trouble even if it is the pharmacists own mistake. I really can't afford to lose my current GP because he is very generous with his prescriptions as well as I don't wanna throw my degree down the drain because of prescription medications.

Peace Guys :)
