I am sorry for the wall of text, i just really need an answer, help, and advice on how to reconstruct my life from this uncontrollable disease that ruined everything i had and im only 17 years old and going into 12th grade. Just so you know this is my first thead/comment considering I just joined but I have been a long time reader of these forums.

With that said, I need help.

In december of 2010 my friend had me try a percocet 10mg and obviously, I loved it. So I started getting them more frequently and eventually graduated to oxycodone 15 mgs. After a little while I started doing them 3-5 days out of the week and before I knew it, I was taking oxycontin 40mgs. In the following weeks I switched from 3-5 days a week to every single day of the week. My tolerance for the opiates quickly heightended to the point where I was doing 130mg of oxycodone pretty much every 24 hours on the dot. Then I got caught by my parents and stopped for a good month or two. But then I found a way to get 40s, 80s, perc 10s, 15s, and 30s absolutely free whenever I wanted to. (how do you think most abusers my age get theirs for free?). So I started abusing again on a daily basis for recreational purposes only. My tolerance kept rising to the point of where it's at now -- 225mgs all at once every 24 hours. Somedays I due 550mgs because I do it before the 24 hour mark from the last dose. The point is that this full blown addiction to opiates has ruined my school career, tore apart the trust between my parents and I, I weigh 115, and my personality has completely changed. When I try to stop taking them cold turkey, I get sick to the point of it being unbareable. And now I can't get to them anymore cause they are locked away so I'd have to buy them which is an unbelievable amount of money I don't have. Anyway my questions are: 1. Should I come clean with my family and tell them about my addiction so they could help me even though they are the ones I have been stealing from (even though they already think I am stealing it from them)? 2. Is 225mgs at once everyday for the last year to big of an amount to try to go cold turkey on? 3. If I went through w/d from going cold turkey, will the side effects be mild or severe? 4. Since if I go to rehab for opiates I probably will never be prescribed anything that has any addictive qualities for the rest of my life even if I legitimately need them, should my parents try to wean me off slowly with their prescription opiates (they are legitametly prescribed to them by their doctors due to spine and back inflammation and pain)?

I'm sorry for the long comment but I really honest to god need help and people to talk to who may have been in this position before. I know it is my fault because of my immature decisions but no 17 year old highschool junior should have to go through this and watch their lives crash and burn right infront of their eyes. I just really need help or I am afraid of what will soon come. All comments will be appretiated. Thank you!

get on suboxone.

Yeah but then wouldn't I have to go to a doctor or rehab/detox centre to get prescribed that? If so, that would mean they would obviously know I'm a prescription medication addict which would kill my chances of ever being prescribed something with an addictive nature in the future even if I actually need it. That scares the shit out of me.

You haven't ruined everything yet. If your parents are any good, you can come clean about your addiction and they will help you get professional help.

If you don't, you do not have much of a future. That has been my experience and observations.

Ok thank you. Two questions though: 1) is 225 mg a day a high dose that I should really worried about or is it not that bad of a dose for an addict? 2) would getting professional help prevent me from ever again being prescribed meds that I actually would need if they have been connected with abuse and addiction?

Since you do not seem to need it for any chronic pain condition, yes. 225mg a day is a high dose. You should taper off with professional help.

It can hamper your ability to get pain meds for awhile. At 17, you probably won't need them but for a few occasions over the next 30 years if all goes well and you do not have a major accident.

Good luck. You can take that first step and ask for help.

Firstly, the fact of having been on suboxone/methadone will not preclude you from ever getting meds if you need them. At least, that is not the case where I live. It would be different with pseudoephedrine/ice abuse because there is a national monitoring system, but there is no system with opiates. Even if there were, you could just go to a different doctor/different pharmacy.

1) You need to decide for yourself how your family would respond to the situation. Some peoples' families badly fuck up and fail to support them. Other peoples' families are great and immensely supportive. Given that you're very young, isn't it likely that they would get behind you?

2) and 3) 225mgs of oxy is a reasonably big dose. It is big enough for your withdrawal to fall squarely within the 'severe' category. How long did you say you were using for? If it was longer than a few months then the withdrawal will not be nice. You might consider suboxone if you're willing; but if you want to just get clean:

4) then I think that using your parent's pain meds would be a feasible plan. The key would be not to simply start reducing from a massive dose, but to wait as long as you can, until you're in withdrawal, and then start up on a small dose of something and reduce from there.

You are extremely young and in my view almost certain to succeed if it is what you want.

I would try quitting cold turkey. If you can't do that, going to a Suboxone doctor is a good idea.

Ahhh... I feel for you man.

This is going to sound obtuse, but how much is it affecting your family? how much do they know? Because if the answer is "not much", you're probably better off at least trying to do this one on your own. an addiction is a huge burden, but what you feel is but a fraction of the weight that will soon be crashing down on the shoulders of your family if you don't get it under control.

wow....maybe I got distracted by my own circumstances. nevertheless, I stand by it. hopefully you'll always do the right thing by your family, and most importantly, yourself, and learn from your mistakes.

and never, ever try to tell yourself that you can't beat addiction.

it is simply not true.

I would tell your parents but its totally up to you. i just did a 24 day inpatient rehab and just got out a few days ago and im only a few years older then you. and it did wonders for me, atleast for now anyway. you might not take the rehab route but i think if you atleast say something to your parents you can all sit down and talk over your options. with addiction you need help, you cant fight it on your own. atleast thats my experience with it.

i went through what your going through when i was 14/15 then agian 17/22(present) the two year gap was do to mental hospitals and not having a doctor to prescribe me the pills as for your questions only you know man

if your going to try quitting cold turkey off the pain meds, maybe you could try using other things as a kind of crutch to help you through the withdrawl period? like start smoking bud or something of that nature (something with a very low addiction potential), the green has always seemed to help me out quite a lot anytime ive gone for an extended period of time without using pills, but your not me, just a suggestion, good luck man, im sure many people here understand what your going through

If I just got out of rehab, I wouldn't want to be on bluelight. It would make me want drugs! To each his own though.

This is a little confusing or hard to believe. Are you saying that you only dose once every 24 hours?

The best thing you could probably do is cold turkey or rapid taper. Your body will bounce back pretty quick after some bad withdrawals because of your young age.

Just plan on being sick for 3-5 days then from that point on it's just going to be a head fuck. You'll want to do it, that's a fact. So just cut your self off. Maybe take benzo's for a week to help; but dont take them longer then a week or you'll gain a worse addiction then opiates.

I am 18 and I have kicked a heroin, oxy, and bupenorphine habit. I started using at 15. I kicked the opiate's and got a natrexalone implant. I would say taper with oxycodone in my case I got on a quick suboxone taper and moved to a different coutry. I still want to use though :|

You can ask your parents for help but not actually go into a program where you might be screwed in your future of ever being prescribed opiates. I dont know what your parents are like, only you do & im sure you know how to read them.

Another thing is im seeing younger kids using these opiates more & more these days. In my highschool days, it was strictly weed & alcohol.......oh my how things have changed.

the problem is you picked up a habit you can't afford and are dependant on your parents meds, they are going to have to know this unless you feel you can "Buy" enough to taper off quickly.

Tip Do not buy oxy, buy suboxone, for around xx dollars you will get 2-4 days worth of opioid (8 mg) rather than your couple hundred dollar a day oxy habit.

If I was in your position I would go the cold turkey route. It can be brutal, but it's a few days and then the physical part is mostly over with. Tell your parents you have a virus or something so maybe they can help you through being sick, and try to tough it out for a few days. That's just what I would do. On the other hand, I understand addiction can be a terribly lonely thing. If you feel that their support, or the support of a rehab program, or meetings, or whatever, would help you stay clean (not just get clean)... then tell them. I don't know your parents and only you have any kind of idea how they'll react. If you think they may react in a positive way (as positive as can be expected for the circumstances), and that maybe they'll appreciate your honesty and want to help, then tell them. Maybe try doing cold turkey and if you can't then tell them?

re

something drastic needs to happen man b/c you're well on a path that most of us, here, travel for many years. i don't know much about you besides your duration and dosing but it sounds exactly how i was when i first started. if you don't stop now you will start to find ways to get that money you don't have for drugs. and it won't be legit more than likely. i'm sure some have said and you've probably read that going through w/d is only a small part of the battle my friend. it's that void after acute withdrawal that needs to be filled with positive, productive activities. idle hands will be your worst enemy.

but to answer your questions. 225 mg isn't too horrible so i would suggest c/t. this is only my opinion based on the second time i went c/t which was at 300 mg oxy ir, after about a year and a half. i would seriously consider some clonidine starting at .05 mg and working up to .1mg because you're blood pressure is gonna be sky high and you're heart will feel like its going to pound out of your chest. when you feel your worst, push yourself to exercise. drink water and something with electrolytes, it really helped the RLS. Force yourself to eat. These will be things that you will not want to do, but will be EXTREMELY important in getting over acute w/d. Once past acute phase, exercise harder. Find something to occupy time b/c you will be bored out of your mind. I can't count how many people relapse due to boredom, myself included. If you have taken clondine, began to taper down after 5 to 7 days, as you may experience hypertension if stopped immediately.

If you cant make it c/t, then try the taper. But its good to be honest with your parents b/c it will help you from relapsing to a certain extent. If you need help with a taper UTSE, there's a ton of people that have been successful. If you still have other questions send a PM.
Good luck.

Good advices above, eating healthy and exercising is very important even if it feels impossible at the moment. Exercising hard will release natural endorphins and hopefully take your mind off the symptoms. And as others have said remember to continue exercising or doing something other meaningful after the acute withdrawls to take your mind off using. I just got through a pretty mild wd, and at the worst stages of it i said (like before) "never again". Now as the symptoms are fading away i'm finding the temptation again. :\

I'd suggest tapering the dose down as much as you can and then quitting cold turkey. Somebody said that you could tell your parents that you have a virus when wd'ing but i think you should do that only if you can keep yourself under control. If you quit now cold turkey you should come clean because it will be much worse than any normal cold virus and they'll be just worried more. Myself i'm extremely agitated and anxious all the time when wd'ing. Benzos can help the axiousness and probably insomnia too. Lyrica takes my withdrawls completely away but it's probably even more addicting so i can't really recommend trying it.
