the guitar players megathread

i really enjoyed it. i thought it sounded like a geiger counter at the beginning which is cool. what kid of delays do you have? take us throught the creative process.

first in the chain is a behringer delay, i forget the model number but it maxes out at 1.3 seconds. then i run that through the delay channel on my line 6 spider II 112 75w, which also maxes out at 1.3 seconds.

what i do is set the delay on the pedal using the knob, and i'll set it to a tempo where i can do a dotted eighth note delay (the first repeat of the delay falls a dotted eighth note after the original note i played a la http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyW7rjWj2Q4). then i'll use the tap time function on my amp's delay to tap in a quarter note pattern.

the most complex delay i do is a 5/8 delay being fed into a whole note delay.

playing with delay like this is pretty rough, you have to have a great sense of tonality... because if you play one wrong note you hear it for like 20 seconds!

Wow! I really like how that sounds! Awesome job NightWatch! The name Escapegoat sounds super familiar. Would I have come across that anywhere else online? Are you on any music forums?
I`m looking into getting my first delay pedal. I had my dads old digitech pds 1002 delay pedal from the 80`s but the battery clip broke and it uses a weird ac adapter instead of the more common boss style ones. I have a delay as part of my bass multi effects unit(mb-50) but I would like a stand alone unit. Any advice? I was thinking of a green line 6 delay and have a little bit of everything.

delays are amazing and you can get so psychedelic with them.

you can get an adapter for those older pedals btw on ebay
i have these adapters for my old pedals:

Thanks! That`s just what I need! The AC plug I need looks a lot like a head phone jack. Just like what you have pictured there. How much do those run?

i go by escapegoat at that LHG forum (the one that talks about research chemicals and legal herbs a lot...) if you know which one i'm talking about.

getdata

is that the one you're looking at using? my buddy doug (goes by the name "totally boring" musically) has one of those in his rig and he uses it quite a bit. i haven't played around with it personally though

this is mine:

honestly i wish i had a nicer one, i got this guy used for $15...

when i shell out for a nicer delay pedal i think i'm going to get the Boss DD-6, but that's just because i'm a Boss fanboy that Line 6 delay might be just as awesome.

the cool thing with the analogue delays is the effect you get when you turn the delay time knob and play at the same time and you can get it to sound like a spaceship taking off.

on a different subject. does anyone else have a problem where the skin tears away from the fingernails from bending strings too much? ive taken to putting superglue under my fingernails to hold my nails and fingers together on my 2nd and 3rd fingers. if it keeps happening it could be the end of my string bending days.

Thanks everyone for sharing your gear and thoughts on delays! Keep `em coming!
So far I`ve compiled a list of possible effects:Line 6 delay,Boss DD-7,T.C Flashback and the Boss DD-20. I`m not only looking for an easy to use delay but if at all possible one that also has a looper built in.
It`d be nice to lay down a bass line, repeat it,then play over it. I think I would mainly use that aspect during solo practice to get the creative juices flowing.
I`ve never had the skin pull away from under my nails from playing too much. Although when I was younger and had more time to devote to playing I would get these massive blisters and calluses on both my left hand(fingering hand) and my right hand if I wasn`t using a pick. Super glue has worked for me in the past. But not with the same problem you have. Good luck healing though! No one wants to be forced to the side lines from an injury.

maybe you should consider an akai headrush. ive got one and the looper function is not only great fun but its great for stuff like making up a riff or a few chords and getting really good at putting cool guitar solos on top. also, if you tap the guitar strings in the right way you can also make it sound like a convincing drum beat. the delay has a tap tempo function which is good but i mainly use it for the looper.

i'm not sure i understand what you mean when you say that the skin is tearing away from your fingernails, but if its happened in the way i think it is then maybe if you just don't clip your fingernails as short on the sides? like, make it less of a curve, y'know... keep it short in the middle of your fingernail so that you can fret fine, but leave the part that connects to your finger on the side longer. make sense?

i think you have the wrong idea. i mean that my whole nail is becoming separated from my finger along the top like my nail is peeling off. i dunno, maybe ill take it easy for a while and hope they grow back normal.

Well that`s way worse then I thought. That`s not what I pictured in my head at all. Are you sure it`s from playing? Did you hit it with a hammer and forgot about it?
I`ve got my digitech up and running! I was able to use Super glue and just glue the part of the battery clip that had fallen off back on! Woo woo! I`m still going to get an adapter for the AC wall plug though. I`m in the process of making a homemade pedal board and I`m going to use either a "1 Spot" which daisy chains a string of AC power to the effects and only uses one ac adapter. Or I might splurge and get a power brick to run everything.

Either way,I`m super excited that I`ve got my old delay working again!

thanks for your concern about my fingers.

the daisy chain thing isnt very good from my experience. a proper power brick thing is way more reliable and makes sure all your pedals get adequate power.
