Hey all. Long time lurker small time poster, but I do enjoy lots of your threads fellow BLers so I will reach out now for some help.

Some background about my habit: I have had an opiate habit with my gf for the past 1 year 6 months. Its still going strong and up to about 100mgs a day. Probably been this way for a month or 2, still get off on 80s but they're becoming less noticeable. This weekend especially I had an open house, so much was ingested, probably 200mgs a day. That was 3 days ago, I'm back to an 80 a day but I'm ready to be done.

Some background on me: I'm 23, have a girlfriend who I spend every day and every night with, she lives with me at my mom's house and have been dating for 2 years in September. We both graduated college, me this year, and her last year, and now both work amazing jobs but we realize that no matter how good the jobs are we won't be able to get on our own with this habit. I feel like the chemistry in my brain is off, like I can't have fun without them, I feel not normal, I look at people and wonder how they can have fun and do such things while not high..I want to be like them again..with that said

The reason for quitting is money, they aren't fun anymore I more or less "need" them and I'm done with it.

I need to find the motivation, I have 3 subs and 2 80s, I'm gonna do a taper with a schedule like this and I am very scared, I have searched tons of stories read all the WD threads but I still can't shake how scared I am.

Day 1 (5/1): 80op before work at 7am
Day 2 (5/2): 80op before work at 7am
Day 3 (5/3): 4mg sub before work at 7am
Day 4 (5/4): 4mg sub when I wake up.
Day 5-9 (5/5-5/9) 2mg sub when I wake up.

I'm a pothead to so I'm hoping this eases the WDs with the sub (take away the stomach pain and let me sleep)

(I'm hoping I don't fold and double dip on the subs and the 80s are just to make me feel normal at my brand new job until the weekend)

Here's hoping I make it, if anyone has any questions on anything I haven't covered feel free to ask. Please refrain from trolling me as I know I did this to myself, ignored the warning signs, I get what I did to myself and now I'm going to try to get out. Your support is very welcome though.

Good luck man, you can beat it. Keep your eye on the prize (financial independence/moving out of your house/starting a life with your girl).

Man you aren't gonna kick this in a weekend. You are gonna have to tough this out a little bit bro. Your plan will not work either. It's not a long enough taper first and foremost. That said, here's what I would do, so long as you have never detoxed with sub before, you will have that one time that it will be your miracle drug. Let me know if you have used sub before, because this won't work.

Wait until you are very sick. Take about 4mg of a sub. From 100mg, this should keep you golden for that day, and most of the next. Wait until you start getting pretty sick again, take about 2mg of suboxone. After you have gotten through about 4 days on suboxone you will be past the worst part of it. From there, you will want to start snorting TINY little lines of sub just whenever you REALLY need it. By tiny lines, I mean I had half an 8mg sub last me about 20 days. They should literally look about like this ------. Your goal is going to be to get as absolutely as low on the sub as you can, WAY below 2mg. You should be able to pretty much completely detox with 2 of those 8mg subs. You aren't going to feel right for a long time. You are going to avoid all the worst symptoms with what I just told you. You are going to have some minor stuff going on for months afterword, and there is no way to avoid it. You won't entirely feel comfortable in your skin about about a month after you completely stop. You will probably have the chills for quite a long time too. There is no magical cure for it bro, subs keep you from having the stomach cramps, shits, and other very bad stuff that you would experience. No need to try to taper down with the 80's you have. Snort em, eat em, or whatever. Have a last hurah or sell them and keep the money. Message me if you have any questions, I've been through this many many times from far worse doses. I went cold turkey off 160mg per day once. I also went cold turkey from nearly 100mg of opana per day once. If you do this right, you can get away with only feeling Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome. Theres no way to avoid that though, ya just gotta deal bro.

Yea, seriously don't do this... I've had precipitated WD before.... It was a terrible experience, literally one of the most painful things I've ever done. You get all the stomach cramps that usually last a couple of days squeezed into about 30 min. I was crying... literally... I cried myself to sleep it hurt so bad.

Listen to this guy mate, he's right on the money. Good post, solid advice. Especially what was said about this is your one chance where it will work, provided you haven't tapered off bupe before.

Yea, make dead sure you are serious about this if its your first time using sub, because if you go back, it won't be as easy the second time. Sub's barely help me with w/d's anymore because I made the mistake of thinking I could walk away repeatedly with them. If you do it, walk away, keep your job, enjoy your family, and NEVER NEVER go back.

Yeah, listen to them. Your taper as stated is a bad idea. The Subs will put you immediately into the worst withdrawal you could ever imagine if you take them too soon. I'd hold out at least 36-48 hours after the Oxy to take the Subs......

You don't have to wait that long. Just wait until you are very very dope sick. I used to go into wd 6 hours after my last dose, and have taken a sub as early as 7 hours after my last dose. You just have to be starting to go into withdrawels, we all know what they feel like.

If you just started a brand new good job, maybe you want to think this one over for a bit... You don't want to be going in your first month sweating your balls off running to the toilet every 20 minutes. Have you and your girlfriend considered actual Suboxone maintenance? It may be pricey but it may up your odds of being successful getting off the Oxy's once and for all. With your short taper, it just ain't gonna happen bud. You'll be back to 'em in no time. I don't mean to sound like a downer, but I speak from humbling, humbling experience. It took me ~4 years from Sub back to Oxy to Methadone before I was successful.

Just a consideration.

Worth seconding.

Wait until you're 110 percent sure you're in withdrawals before taking buprenorphine.

This is very important to point out ^^^^. By just detoxing you are not dealing with the root of the problem. You said in your original post that you don't know how people have fun wihtout drugs... how they enjoy their lives. You're not just going to detox and never do um again. I've tried it, it doesn't work. You either need to go to a treatment program where they will teach you how to find yourself again or get on suboxone maitenence until you have the time to get some help. This is not something to try and do on your own because it won't last I can promise you that. I made the same mistakes and wish I wouldnt have wasted so much time shunning treatment.

This is true, I've taken subs about eight hours after my last hit. You can tell when you start clucking so that's a much better guide to go by rather than someone say take your subs however many hours after your last hit

A better idea would be to just finish up all your oxy's, perhaps try to get onto a low a dose as possible, and to then just wait for as long as you can for withdrawal, at least 24hrs. Then split one of the 8mg's into, say, 2mg pieces (or crush it and divide it into quarters) and then go from 2mg and slowly reduce.

Very helpful information. Appreciate your being so specific. I not only need to know this ( I'm a chipper ) I need to live like I know this.

Best of luck - be gentle with yourself. If you like weed it can take a little edge off as well as your detox

As everyone here has outlined there are major flaws in the OP's plan. That makes it NOT "helpful" information.

First of all everyones withdrawal is different it may not be as bad as you think it will be. Keep telling yourself it will be horrible and thats 100percent whats going to happen. If you try to keep a good state of mind it really makes a difference. I get a monthy script in which I run out early from time to time an withdrawal. There have been times all I did was lay in my chair and not move. I thought and felt every little withdrawal symtom. Other times I kept myself busy as hard as it was it was still much more easy to have the right state of mind. If you have never gone through withdrawal then don't scare yourself with others stories. Use them to help you cope with whatever you may be feeling. Its kinda like pain tolerance some have a high one some a low one. It may not be as bad as you think. Are you going to feel normal um most likely not. I use tramadol when I run out of my meds and they help some. Mabey try those for a few days if you must go to work. They work for some ppl others hate them. They will likely help with the moodiness. But do not take them more than a week or so you don't need another habit.

I'm sorry to have to agree with the other posters and say your plan will not work from my experience, which is a lot of withdrawals using tapering schemes just like yours that didn't work. It wasn't even a lack of willpower, there's just a point where you physically and mentally won't be able to handle yourself in any sort of situation other than curled up in a ball in your room waiting the kicks out.

IMO what Secobarbital said is your best bet by far. DO NOT risk precipitated withdrawal. Yes, there are lots of people that can wait until "they start feeling sick" and take the subs and they are fine, but there are more people that "start feeling sick", have taken subs and got launched into a 4 day horrific living in hell by the toilet withdrawal.

I feel for you man, it's not an easy thing you're trying to do and it's going to take a lot of determination to get through the harder parts and to know that it will get worse before it gets better but it WILL GET BETTER eventually.

I find mantras/affirmations have helped me during the hardest of times. If you are in full on withdrawal (puddle of sweat, kicking, aching, moaning, sneezing, puking, runny nose and eyes, etc.) and trying to hold out as long as you can before your next little bump of subs, I would recommend saying something like "I'm strong I will get through this it will get better, I'm strong I will get through this it will get better, I'm strong i..." etc. etc. and just repeat it over and over and over again. If you are kicking in a puddle of sweat on your bed awake for the 4th night in a row I've found that these kinds of little things are the only things that kept me holding on.

Also remember once you get out of the worst of the storm to NOT go back. Remember vividly (it won't be hard...) how horrible the withdrawal experience was and know that you will have all of that all over again if you choose to use.

Hot showers, letting yourself cry when you need to, even trying to let it all out as best you can when you cry can give you a great sense of relief during a time of shit. Going on walks even if they are around the block, or around your house even, any exercise is good. When you can, masturbate, getting that little bit of relaxation and relief can help a lot. You'll notice that it will be pretty easy to get hard and jerk it when going through drawals especially in the beginning stages. I've even had it where I randomly got an erection and shot one off and I wasn't even thinking of anything really and barely touching myself. Weird i know but others will agree it can happen. Taking Immodium (like 4 pills at a time kind of thing) helps A LOT in my experience, even with the withdrawal symptoms like the hot flashes because it has some opioid thinggy to it (look it up). Taking maybe some Benadryl to help with sleep and aches and runny nose and that sort of thing.

Also drink a lot of juice. Be sure to stock up beforehand because you won't be able to just run to the store when you're in the shit. Get things like apple juice or orange juice or something like that to keep electrolytes in your system. If you can purchase some vitamins like vitamin C, Alpha Lipoic Acid, a strong multivitamin, magnisium for muscle spasms, vitamin D's, Fish Oil, etc. There's a lot of others out there you can do some research.

It's not easy but also like the poster above said you can make it worse by expecting it to be living hell. Try not to put any expectations on it at all and take it as it comes. Remember everyone is different so who knows you might be that %1 that just get's a little cold.

Always remind yourself that "this to will pass" and "the clouds are moving and this cloud will soon be gone" that sort of thing. It's a long drawn out process and there's no real way to cheat it. Just tricks in the bag you can utilize to keep yourself in the game and not give up. You will have moments where you might panic and the best thing to do is try and prep your mind for these times so when they happen you can know that "I'm just panicking, I just need to relax and wait this out", at this time take a lot of slow deep breaths and don't let the panic take hold and take over it will intensify everything x10 in a matter of a half hour if you let it. If you just budda it out it will pass and you'll still be in the game.

It's hardcore, I know I'm sounding like I'm preaching and I'm sounding like you're going to go visit Satan. But in my experience of going through way to many heavy withdrawals than I'd like to know, these are the tools that have kept me going. Especially the affirmations to remind myself that I am strong and I can get through this and I've done it before so I can do it again this time.

And like the guy said above, you can make it a hell of a lot worse by putting expectations on how bad it will be. Try not to expect anything out of it, so be prepared for the worse but believe in the best. The best of power to you man you can do it, peace. If you'd like PM me and I'll be happy to help in any way I can. Withdrawal either makes me stronger every time I go through it or it takes a piece of me every time, I haven't really found out which yet... It is seriously hardcore shit and you don't know what it's like until you've been through it. Even the pain after my major back surgery when I was 15 doesn't hold a candle to how horrible I've felt during some of the worst of withdrawals. Sorry if this sounds like me preaching that's not my intention at all, so with all that I said know that YMMV and I only am going off of what I know. And again, BEST OF LUCK!
