These questions are mainly for Xanax but some could definitely be answered by overall benzo users.
(Sorry for this long background description, I feel it is necessary)
I guess I'll give background on how I began the drug, and where I am at now with it. I am currently taking Xanax for about 9 months now. I started by taking .5mg-1mg last August. I would do 2 mg bars also then but could feel the effect of euphoria and anxiety relief from the .5mg-1mg. I began Xanax because I have been dealing with anxiety for years as I over-think everything and anything. A friend who loved Xanax at the time recommended trying a half a bar (1mg) for anxiety relief. I instantly loved it and began to take it as much as possible (not over doing it). At my peak I was doing 4 mgs a day and flying high at all times (last September). I would never take 4 mg in one dose at this point of my life though.
I had been getting bars off the street for a couple months at this point. I slowly lost my Xanax connects and was not able to take them often once the winter rolled around. I would be off for a couple weeks and then get my hands on a couple mgs and do 1-2 mgs in a dose. This dosage was still doing the job as I would still get a "body high" and also get the anxiety relief I was originally looking for. That was 6 months after I had began the drug.
After getting fed up with not being able to get my hands on bars easily, I decided to make a doctor's appointment about my anxiety.
I went to the doctor's looking to get Xanax as I loved them at this point and was indulging heavily. Of course I should have expected to not be prescribed Xanax as there are a million and a half drugs in the world, but my hopes were high. I went in there and did not tell the doctor I have been taking Xanax and that "it works" for me. I did not want to ruin the chances of getting them. I was prescribed Zoloft which if you are not familiar, is an SSRI anti-depressant which works for OCD, anxiety relief (apparently), and other disorders. I started at 50 mgs, then moved up 25 mgs every month for the next 3 months. I am currently at 100 mgs of Zoloft. I still don't feel a relief from Zoloft, but this is besides the point.
The second doctor's appointment I made it a point to get Xanax prescribed somehow. This I did achieve as I said I was given one (.5mg) and it worked. I did not want to tell him I have been taking 2 mgs a day. Point being I was prescribed .25-.5 mg as much as needed. The pills are .25mg. When I wanted to indulge and feel good I would take 8 equaling a bar (2mg). This did the job.
I also drink with my Xanax when I want to get a little more fcked up at night. Never more than 4 beers, never less than 2. So this is where my questions begin...I seem to not feel the Xanax as much as I used to and after reading A LOT of posts on here, I found out that benzo tolerance can go up and be hard to get down. Yesterday I acquired 20 mg of Xanax gg249 white bars. So I take 2 mg last night and am not feeling the effects like I used to (I wasn't drinking). This led me to take another bar so a total of 4 mgs in about an hour. I still did not achieve the same high I could off of the eight .25 mgs I get scripted. Today I took 2 mgs and did not achieve the feeling I NORMALLY would again. Now I am starting to not enjoy bars....The number one reason I began taking them is because they relieved my anxiety and made me euphoric and I was able to interact with people that I normally can't stand. This is no longer the case...
Questions:
1) Am i becoming tolerant to Xanax, or benzos in general, or is my personality just getting used to the feelings of xanax at this point as I read elsewhere?
2) Does the Zoloft effect how the Xanax is effecting me? I read it would only enhance it, but what if the Zoloft is starting to work for me achieving that "happiness" as its supposed to or "relief" already, so the Xanax doesn't effect that anymore or me in general?
3) Is upping my dosage to 4 mgs dangerous? I clearly have somewhat of a tolerance but I read that if you take more than 4 mgs a day, the withdrawals are especially dangerous and nasty.
4) If I DO take 4 mgs each dose, will I not be able to handle the usual alcohol I normally consume? (2-4 beers, or in this case right now, 4-5 shots of vodka over a couple hours).
5) Could the reason that I'm not feeling them is because 8 .25 mg's has a lot more surface area or what not than a small 2mg bar?
Any help is appreciated as I do a lottt of research on this website and could not find these answers specifically. I feel one question affects the others, as the first question is easy to answer, but when taking into consideration the other questions, it becomes more complex.
