Local characters / weirdos

I'm not sure if anyone has already posted 'Mad Mary' the woman who used to dance around the Anna Livia on O'Connell Street? She must have danced in that same spot every day for more then 30 years, an amazing woman, i'm not sure if she is still alive, but there is a Facebook appreciation page for her. :)

Here is a photo of her in full swing, she used to dance in a movement that was the sign of the cross.

Aw man, a near legendary Irish heroine:

Warty Nora. Never seen without a ciggie hanging out the side of her mouth. And if she doesn't have one, she'll be trying to bum one off ya! Every so often been known to stop ya to tell ya a joke or two. Also almost always carrying around big shopping bags filled with junk. Face that'd make grown men cry but she's harmless and seems nice enough, just a bit odd :)

Bristol bus station

Do any Bristolians remember the 'beep beep' man in Bristol bus station? He was youngish, about 30 and looked like Mr bean. He didn't work, judging by the amount of time he spent in the bus station and wore nylon trousers and a flashers mac.
He used to pace restlessly watching the buses lined up waiting for one of them to reverse. When they did he would get quite frantic, gazing fixedly at the bus and slapping his newspaper on top of a bin and make weird sounds in time with the reversing beeps only like 'maaah maaaah maaaaah maaaah'.
I hope someone remembers him from my youth, about 1995, he was one of the only reliable thing in my life at the time =D

Marigold

Dunno if anyone has mentioned him yet but there used to be a well known vagrant in Norwich. He was a bald black guy from what I remember,he used to wear marigold gloves all the time hence the nickname.
I once saw him stand in the middle of the road, stop the traffic while he waved the way clear for a passing aeroplane, absolute classic.
Another time he was in the local library standing right up against a wall ,facing it and reciting prayers continuously.
He was totally harmless bloke and everyone knew of him. That was in the early 90's when I last lived there so I don't know if he is still around or not.
People like him do add a certain amount of colour and character to a city.

Strangely, just as I was about to click on this thread I noticed you were the last one to post and thought "bet they say TheSpade". And so you did...

me and spade think of each other at the same time (simultaneously)

incidently there are a high proportion of strange people living in birmingham...there was one used to busk with a cardboard guitar outside the jobcentre/pub/mcdonalds/casino shop block... he had a ghetto blaster playing music, would hold his cardboard guitar and shout at people.....

Guy called "Pissy Phil" used to creep around here, he used to give you 4-5 cigs for a bottle of piss. Of course as a kid you had no idea what he wanted a bottle of piss for and thought it was hilarious and well worth it. He had a few regulars customers who'd bring the cigs up to school and make a tidy profit.

Wonder whatever happened to him.

I like "Dave the rave"

We just have the usual mad people here but the worst is this guy that goes through the bins, has huge thick rimmed glasses & since I flipped him off about 2 years ago has some weird stalker issue with me & just looks at me with pure hate burning in his eyes.

EDIT - You tube comment for dave the rave

"Shit...i remember seeing dave the rave for the first time in sunderland 2006 and even now..it is the most unique thing iv ever seen in a club ,he is a sound bloke and before ye dickheads slate the fella do most of ye even know why he acts like that...a near death experience can mess with ye head like...hes just happy hes alive n he aint doing no harm,he is a legend ....long live dave the rave!!!!!!!"

not certain of the guys name but I think its cyril. He roams scunthorpe town centre and looks fairly normal if a bit scruffy and does all the standard talking and argueing with himself, as well as singing. The really charming thing he does tho is if your sat outside a cafe on the patio chairs and tables he will come up, sit down and help himself to your food all while lecturing you on the state of british politics. Its annoying if your local and know him but pure comical when he does it to tourists.
