Discuss it then, bro.
Explain why perfectly legal things are disallowed from public forum discussion.
Legality has very little to do with it. When I was in Holland, cannabis was legal for me. Should I therefore be allowed to post prices for weed? Seems unconvincing. Should we only allow discussion of things that are legal everywhere? No alcohol prices then. Legal for everyone? No cigarette prices. The legality criterion doesn't really seem to work.
The problem for me is that, rather uniquely for our forum, there's a pretty smooth continuum between things that can and cannot be considered drug related. Blame stoner ingenuity. We're agreed that we don't want prices for paraphenalia. So do we allow prices for tobacco pipes? Well, those are obviously cannabis smoking tools as well. What about rolling papers? The thing is, lots of people do use rolling papers for cigs. Why shouldn't they be allowed to discuss what their cigs cost them when others are? What about prices for growlights? Prices for fertilisers or watering cans? How can we be consistent? If we allow prices for gas, why not prices for butane? Butane is used for making hash oil, so we've ended up making paraphenalia prices OK again. It's a nightmare. It's so difficult to draw a line that my feeling was that it would be better to just not allow any prices at all. I thought we had reached an agreement on that chainer, my bad.
Yerg, this is all you my man. I never knew of any rule preventing discussion of prices for legal things. In fact, we've talked gas prices, cig prices, etc all the time in the past with Smods in here. Anything that can be even partially related to drugs cannot be discussed - so blunt wrap prices would be one of those "banned" price subjects, but only by a slight margin. Don't tell me you actually smoke dutchs, black and milds, games, or whatever blunt wrap for the tabacco haha.
There's no blanket ban on prices in the BLUA at all. As mods, we're all free to set the rules for our forums. EADD allows prices, even for fairly large quantities. We could allow prices if we wanted, for weed as well as anything else. It's all down to us. I know you don't want prices for drugs or paraphenalia; where do we draw the line? I'm aware that this isn't the usual channel for discussion of policy, but I'm all for keeping our moderation as transparent as possible. If you don't agree, I'm more than happy to discuss it, I just think that this is the easiest, most consistent way of doing it we have.
Price discussion brings nothing but fucking retarded ass off topic conversations.
This is my view. It leads to sourcing, dicksizing, but no harm-reduction.
Pray tell, Wolfy, what exactly is "on-topic" for a social thread? I know for damn sure we're not all gonna sit here and discuss Tom Petty for 1000 posts.
Yes, the social thread is off-topic by nature. However, we can hardly allow prices just in this thread, because that is a)inconsistent and unfair to posters who aren't CDS regulars, and b)going to result in everyone using this thread if they want to talk about prices and it will just be the price thread.
As I said, and as should be obvious, I am happy to talk about this. If anyone has better ideas on how to deal with prices, please share. Please don't say "just use your common sense", because it's not that simple, as I hope the examples above demonstrate. Chainer, once again I apologise, I thought we had reached a consensus.
TL;DR Infractions will be handed out to anyone talking about anything that is not Tom Petty, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Traveling Wilburys, Mudcrutch, or the life, works and achievements of the aforementioned entities.
