2c-E deaths in Blaine

We must also consider that the dealer was uninformed himself, because no informed person would do that, thats exponentially increasing their risk for getting their: a. ass beat. b. sent to jail.

this is what bath salts, coupled with NO harm reduction in the country whatsoever.

No, this is what criminalization with NO morals does to innocent people.

I'm very interested in what actually occurred here. I hate to see someone die like this, but if 2c-e, we need to closely reexamine 2c-e doses.

lME, about 60mg of 2c-e was as high as I took 2c-e; I can't even fathom these 100mg+ doses

In the US, a minor (someone < 18 years old) can legally purchase a lethal dose of aspirin in one trip to the store. Aspirin should not be banned and 2ce should not be banned!

I e-mailed the startribune asking them to confirm or deny proper analytical testing for the drug by law enforcement authorities. I'll let you guys know what I get back.

I have put a lot of thought into what the various "people who know" have said on various forums. They all follow the same basic story with just some different facts. This is an effort to understand what happened. What follows is my theory of what happened, it mixes fact with wild speculation based on the available facts and rumours

From various accounts, I believe that they intended to take mephedrone at the party, were given MDPV instead by an unscrupulous dealer (shocking right?). They either consumed all of the MDPV or the stash was destroyed by the unscrupulous dealer (shocking right?). We know they drove the sick kid (who subsequently died) to the hospital and pushed him out of the car in the parking lot and drove away from local TV reports quoting his brother. Media reports lead us to believe two others were sick, the rest just got a night strapped to a bed high for observation/sensualisation. When the police ended up going to the house because of the two other sick kids, the only drugs they could find was someone else's stash of 2C-E (dead kid who's house it was.) As all of the MDPV or whatever it was was disposed of by the dealer prior. The people involved are reported to be serious drug users, they are likely remaining silent, especially after a death, or have no understanding of what was even going on the first place. It does appear the at least one person was cooperating with the police the night of the event, as they were able to track down the others that were at the party so they could be forced to join the hospital party.

There is one part of this story that I am at a complete loss to understand, I have been bouncing it off all my friends, doctors, scientists, etc, and cant work out a reasonable answer. Why was the guy who died pulled from life support the night of the event? What was the urgency? People with gun shots to the head are kept on life support for a few days even when there is almost no chance to be sure, to get the right experts in, review several opinions, to make sure they get it right before they pull the plug. Why was this kid's life support terminated within hours of his admission in the middle of the night, at a 2nd class hospital, clearly without any deep consideration? Its not like we are talking about a 90 year old here, or someone physicality missing half of their head. He was 19 fucking year old! Why wasn't he sent to one of the World Class medical facilities only 15 minuets away to be properly checked out over the next few days, to be sure all hope was lost. Instead I am sure the doctors pushed the family to pull the plug with what appears to be amazingly unethical haste. Over the next years the truth will come out on this in the medical/scientific literature and/or legal proceedings. I suspect the conclusions will be just as scathing with all the facts.

It all sounds like the worst possible way to go for that guy. Just sounds absolutely horrible. This must be so traumatising for those involved. This wasn't just a drug-overdose trauma, this was a multiple-overdose, a complete maniacal meltdown. The guy set about gravely inflicting damage upon himself, and was pushed out of the car in the hospital parking bay by his friends.

No one deserves to leave the world like that...

This is the exact part of the story that jumped out at me while I was reading it yesterday, I just can't fathom whatsoever.

There is a lot of hazy, unsubstantiated stuff surrounding this story, and the media isn't helping with their haste & ignorance. Even if some 2c-e was at the party, it doesn't necessarily mean it was in the decedent. I fear this will be similar to the methadone/mephedrone typo that lead to the latter's scheduling in the U.K. & the ensuing cambrian level explosion of dangerous unresearched chemicals being available to anyone with a credit card & internet access...

I'd like to shed some light on this, because I actually know what happened – I know these kids either directly or through some friends. I've heard what actually happened from several different people.

As some of you have guessed, this was NOT 2c-e, it was actually MDPV.

There's been some problems with kids selling MDPV as something else. I was duped a few weeks ago, someone sold me some MDPV that was supposed to be 100mg of MDMA (molly). I knew right away it wasn't molly, because it was brown. I've never encountered brown molly and I knew something was up. Sadly, before I could find my other friend at the party to let him know. He had taken two capsules – a whopping 200mg of MDPV. He ended up going to the hospital later that night because he started to have terrible paranoia and his heart was beating extremely hard. The kid knew what he was selling, yet he still sold it like it was molly, in 100mg capsules. Really fucking dangerous shit.

The guy who sold these kids MDPV as 2c-e is actually friends with the guy who sold me and my friend MDPV as MDMA. Even more baffling, he had taken enough MDPV the night I was duped to put himself in the hospital. He was fully aware of the effects. I've met gang-banging heroin dealers more honest/ethical than these guys.

These kids run in the same scene as me, as well as the dealers obviously, and this has shaken the scene to the core. Very sad stuff. :(

I knew the person that died and the group of people that ODed. They are all friends of my close friends.

Anyways, I can confirm that MDPV was what they ingested and not any 2C-x drugs.

I know the kid that dealt this to them too and he is so far burnt out of reality it's not even a joke. We've watched him snort 100mg lines of 2cs on multiple occasions, eat tons of pills at once, etc. Fucker belongs in jail for misinforming and mis-dosing like that.

It's too bad that people cannot just take their friends to a hospital when they OD without fear of getting hassled by the police for trying to save someone's life.

I've never obtained a "Research Drug" over the Net. I've been curious. Ive never done bath salts. I've never seen them for sale at my local gas station. I read PIKAAL and it is currently on loan to a person of interest. But 2-CE? This I didn't suspect as a lethal drug..

I want to hear the full story as well.

They have not replied yet -- I'm not sure as to whether or not this indicates that they do not have a large interest in reporting the actual post-mortem toxicology results and would like to assume, as stated by the police, that 2c-e has killed this young man despite the tox reports not appearing to be published yet and no firm evidence of GC/MS, NMR and/or IR spec testing of the materials found on site.

geez, if the police, media, legislature, etc are all going on word-of-mouth from some traumatized & extremely drug addled teenagers we should be much more worried about the state of gov't, journalism & humanity at large than which drug these people did something stupid with.

Do tell when & if you hear back from them though. I was about to say i find it hard to believe the police & news outlets would release information of this nature without adequate analysis, but after thinking about it for 2 seconds i don't find it hard to believe at all :(

A lot of people try to use the defense (it was bought legally, its legal) in an attempt to get off the hook not realizing the conviction the analogue act can pin on a person. Anything is possible with this little info but there's always the chance a personal dealer was involved.

Perhaps some dummy without a scale eyeballed or contaminated what was ingested? Regardless I just have a hard time believing even 100mg snorted would kill someone. Let alone cause this much damage to so many people. I think either an MAOI was involved, it wasn't 2C-E, or someone got some bags mixed up.. something i mean.. Unless drugs at the hospital induced a dangerous reaction? Besides who the hell can snort that much of such a painful compound to snort without.. you know flailing their face about in pain? Wouldn't you just give up after so much? I just can't fathom the story. Its so bizarre.

One things for sure though. If the culprit was actually 2C-E, enough material to seriously harm that many individuals.. This had to be one painful death. In the hospital I imagine the kid lethargically squirming around in pain probably making the most distorted facial expressions. Tragic but definitely the byproduct of foul play in my opinion. I have a hard time believing with the history of survived immense doses consumed by human beings that this was just a big accident. Can you imagine drinking a glass of cloudy water with that much 2C-E in there? Lets say 700mg? Even repeated doses.. somethings awry here.

Its very possible this wasn't even 2C-E.

The mistake (if it is one) could be the vendors error, or *way* more likey, it could be the medias fault. Think back to the media's insanely misinformed reporting on the mephedrone craze. Half the the time people died it was like a fucking heroin overdose or something like that where the user that OD'd happened to also consume a small amount of mephedrone the same night.

Don't believe a word of it until you see the toxicology report.

The main reason I'm skeptical is because you would have to consume (orally) a HUGE amount of 2C-E (to my knowledge) in order to dose. Of course its possible they were insufflating it, but then, who could put up with the burn of repeatedly snorting 2C-E until you reached OD levels. IDK – just seems fishy.

I will not touch research chemicals anymore after trying something I bought off the internet 5 years ago which made me sick & I puked several times, screw that shit, I will stick with my pharms.

Well for staters, here's another news outlet.

A Blaine man was arrested Friday in connection with a mass drug overdose that took the life of a 19-year-old Coon Rapids man and hospitalized 10 others.

Timothy Richard Lamere, 21, was jailed on suspicion of third-degree murder for allegedly buying and providing the unregulated synthetic hallucinogen 2C-E to teenagers and young adults Wednesday night at a house party in Blaine, according to Cmdr. Paul Sommer of the Anoka County sheriff's office.

Authorities had said Thursday that 2C-E was a legal substance bought over the Internet, but Sommer said new federal drug-control information Friday changed that interpretation. He said 2C-E is similar enough to a controlled substance in its chemical composition to be considered illegal.

"(We) are dealing with a substance that is one carbon molecule different," Sommer said of 2C-E and its regulated cousins.

Trevor Robinson of Coon Rapids died Thursday at Unity Hospital in Fridley after ingesting the drug. The other 10 who were hospitalized, two of whom were initially listed in critical condition, have since been discharged, Sommer said.

John Robinson was at the hospital when his brother's heart stopped beating for the third time and he died. Also present were Trevor Robinson's mother, Jill Robinson, and Lyssa Ducharme, the mother of his 6-month-old child. Other relatives were still on their way to the hospital when he died.

"I had to tell them he was already gone and they were too late," John Robinson, 24, said Friday. "It was so hard."

What is even harder is thinking about what might have happened if Trevor Robinson, like the other people at the party, had been taken to the hospital in an ambulance, his brother said.

Robinson said a doctor told him his brother was admitted to Unity about 3:30 a.m. after someone drove him to the hospital and put him outside the emergency room doors.

Sommer disagreed with that, saying the sheriff's office determined that Trevor Robinson was dropped off much earlier and that the people who brought him there went inside with him.

Blaine police responded to a house at 9532 Monroe St. N.E. just before 1 a.m. Thursday after a 911 caller reported someone was not breathing. They found a group of young people in medical distress, and some appeared to be hallucinating.

"(The paramedics) would have taken care of him on the way and he would have been there a lot sooner," Robinson said. "Maybe he would not have been the same brother he was, maybe he would have been damaged or comatose but at least he would have had a chance to live."

Friends and family said Friday that Trevor Robinson had been fighting addiction and trying to clean up his life for the sake of his son, Bentley. He was working in manufacturing and taking online classes to complete his high school degree, according to Ducharme.

"He had one bad day and it just ended," said Ducharme, 18. "Now my son doesn't have a dad anymore."

Robinson said he and his brother and some friends were on the way to a bowling alley Wednesday night when Trevor Robinson got a phone call and plans changed.

Instead they drove to a McDonald's parking lot in Blaine, John Robinson said, where a man described a drug he had brought for everyone to take at a party. John Robinson said that man was Lamere.

"He said it was legal and that you could buy it online and in sex shops and stuff," Robinson said. "He made it seem like it was no big deal."

Robinson said he wasn't interested and left. He said his brother stayed.

"My guess is that he was a little upset," Robinson said. "He was trying to do well and work things out with the mother of the child, but I think he just wanted to forget about things for a little while."

That was the last time he saw his brother conscious.

Andy Young, a friend of Trevor Robinson's who was not at the party, said Friday that he and Robinson had tried 2C-E in the past, as had several of their friends. From the accounts he heard about the party, Young said, the drug did not have the same effect it usually did.

"So he just took more and more and more and all of a sudden Trevor started freaking out," Young said.

John Robinson said his family hopes his brother's death can be a lesson to others considering drug use.

"So many people know him and care about him and this is a shocking message that you need to smarten up and not do this stuff," he said.

Sometimes known as "Europa," 2C-E is not specifically listed as a "Schedule I" controlled substance, the kind that are banned by name because they have no approved medical use, such as heroin, cocaine or LSD.

The same is true for similar drugs available online called 2C-I and 2C-T-7. But a related substance known as 2C-B has gone through the slow and cumbersome process for a formal ban, and federal officials say that's good enough because federal law allows prosecutions for "analogue" drugs.

"You may be able to purchase it on the Internet, but it ain't legal," Drug Enforcement Administration spokes-man Rusty Payne said Friday.

Anoka County authorities clearly thought otherwise because 2C-E is not covered by the Minnesota's drug laws, which they are more accustomed to enforcing.

When authorities on Friday announced Lamere's arrest, they cited the analogue law.

The various 2C drugs fall into a family known as phenethlyamines — hallucinogens with similar chemical structures. They have effects comparable to much better known "club drugs" such as Ecstasy.

Carol Falkowski, a drug abuse strategy officer with the Minnesota Department of Human Services, said party drugs were more common here about 10 years ago, when raves were popular. This is the first time she's heard of 2C-E use in Minnesota.

The parents of the teen who threw the party, Michelle and Michael Fisher, had been out of town, and their son was supposed to be staying with a friend, said Greg Fisher, 61, of Maplewood, who said he was the boy's great-uncle.

Lamere was to be booked into the Anoka County Jail on Friday night. Sommer said he expected charges would be filed Monday.

Lamere's family could not be reached for comment.
