I think the gentlemean is on to something.
In my arogant sep opininion it is the nuclear stockpiles of the past that prevented a full scale war in Europe, and The USAs current stockpile and the roughly 400 US made Trident misiles that the US equiped the British Trafagular or what ever class of ballistic subs you run. They are abhorent but a necessary evil. China has the capability to hit approximately 20 cities in the US. We have the capability to wipe their culture from the face of the earth. Having said that I don't see that happening because they own us for now- wouldn't want to destroy their assest. The UK has a similar capability. Now if nukes fall into terrorists hands that another story: Solution- stay out of afairs (eg stand in solidarity and cheer on the the Libyian freedom fighters but don't arm and intervene militarily (including no fly zaones)because you create bad blood years latter. The queen is irrevalant. I think that the PM and a minister from his cabinent assent is required to fire nukes. This is called the 2 man rule.
Now terrorists and nuts pose a clear and present danger- they usually breed state support. Iran amd N Korea- not so natural and developimg balistics, working on ICBMs.
They are evil, it 'd be great to eliminate them from the face of the earth. Now missle shields and "star wars" type systems are great ideas that may very well make nukes redundant.
