I could ask you the same question...

Thought rugby-types had all adopted Swing Low, Sweet Chariot as their anthem? Although singing an old Christian gospel song to celebrate a somewhat homoerotic sports match played by men with funny shaped balls is probably equally as bizarre as singing a poem about the evils of Capitalism and the mysteries of mysticism to some tune made up by a vicar for no apparent reason cos it's got sod all to do with Christianity at all. Presume he just saw the word "Jerusalem" and didn't bother to actually read the rest or he surely wouldn't have even considered. And what the hell do either of 'em have to do with either England or rugby?!? :D

PS: It's more the Women's Institute anthem than a rugby one anyway.

Jerusalem hymn does relate to England though. How is it a women's anthem?Doesn't have to relate to the sport for which it's being sung as long as it refers to the country. Not that I'm a fan of rugby, the fans just seem to have better taste muscially.
And which poem do you mean sings about the 'evils' of capitalism?

The poem would be Jerusalem by William Blake - you really should try to read the lyrics instead of just humming along to a pretty tune sometime ;)

Mr Blake said:
And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen?

And did the Countenance Divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among these dark Satanic Mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold!
Bring me my chariot of fire!

I will not cease from mental fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand,
Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land.

Have a looksee about online if you want to read up on the interpretations of the poem. It's not quite as patriotic as it appears at cursory glance. Well, not in the way most who sing along to it may think.

The Women's Institute sing it at every meeting - hence "Jam & Jerusalem" :)

Indeed...he was neither patriotic (in the sense we use it now) nor religious....he was certainly spiritual but hated organised religion with a passion

"And priests in black gowns / Were walking their rounds / And binding with briers / My joys and desires"

What a dude, respect

makes me actually guffaw with merriment when you hear the stupids singing it as a 'hymn' LOL

...kinda illustrates the intelligence levels....

I hate how they can't handle life without therapy too. If they can afford to pay around $200 dollars an hour for someone to listen to their shite for that hour then life is not really that bad is it? Why can't they handle personal problems without the need for guns, lawyers or therapists. For this reason they should have their gun laws rescinded, but just for as long as it takes for them to grow some backbone.

Or you can get an AA/NA sponsor and hill listen to your shite for free. CA is a very litigious state- but we're bankrupt so frivilous lawsuit reformation is being put into place. As far as our 2nd ammendment, its a fundamental necessity as our liberties diminish. Thats our last bulwark against a totalitarian, unjust government, which is the direction this country is heading into. Having said that, I don't own a firearm, but the knowledge that others do disuades home invasions. I heard there was a study done of people flying the American flag outside their house- there was a direct and overwhelming ownership of guns. Home invasions were lower in such homes by a huge margin, because the criminals now this. In mexico, by contrast, gun ownership is illegal so most guns are in the hands of criminals and the government. The death toll, abductions, ect...is huge.

When the cessation of US territory to gun cartels and failure of the feds from securing the border, the state of arizona tryed to do the job themselves and were widely denounced. The stated rescinded the bill but the state, known for more lenient gun laws (you could carry a gun as long as it wasn't concealed without a permit.), moved to just allow concealed weapons as robbings, kidnapings were up. But 1 lone nut descided to shot a congreewomen so I think they rethought that law.

All the hot British Chicks end up moving to CA.

Gun crime in Mexico is so great because guns are illegal? Thats the reason.. You're joking surely.?!

Whats the gun crime in the UK compared to the US per capita? (not even worth a google really)

^ Or indeed pretty much every other country that isn't the US (and Mexico - due to the War on Drugs spillover from the US surely?) that has strict gun control laws. Really bad argument for a really bad policy, in my opinionionionion. There's simply no justification for an armed populace at all I can see. That foolishness about how letting any idiot who wants them have as many guns as they want around the place in case they ever need to fend off the evil government of the day really is just foolishness. Cos governments don't ever have superior firepower now do they? 8)
