I truly feel for ya dude, i remember a few years back when i was doing far too much k i got paranoid that people had got into my laptop through my wifi (yes.. i know ) but i ended up changing my password for everything including to unlock me laptop,so wake up next day feeling a lil worse for wares and completely forgot what id done,lost all my uni projects,my Bought copy of logic 8,all my files and absolutely gig's worth of samples recorded by me at uni with my mate,proper gutted and a lesson learnt i think

Fuck man, that's brutal. I fried an external HD a few years ago that had my entire music collection on it, I could have cried, but losing all the stuff you actually use to make music must be worse. Take it into a wee local computer shop & see if they can recover it at all.

I've got 450gb of music on my external HDD I can't get at cos I've lost the sodding USB cable

Could really do with that drive too to try to rescue at least some of the "lost" data on me internal drive. Pretty sure I should be able to recover at least the most important stuff with TestDisk. Would probably be worth having a crack at recovering your stuff with that or similar software yourself, Monsta. Tis a piece of piss to use and usually manages to get back virtually anything you lose due to fried drives

Fiend: You probably missed my peevee heyday but can relate. My PC was definitely being fucked with though cos it stayed that way with or without the peev and I've still got loads of stuff saved very clearly showing someone piddling about with me 'puter. Why they were in there I really don't know. But "they" were in there for sure - for a good 18-24 months too. Had to totally reset me CMOS/BIOS and indulge in some major HDD surgery to even be able to use the bloody thing but seem to have finally managed to make whoever it was decide it's really not worth their effort at last. Hopefully

Breakcore - Sorry but I can't help laugh at that Still, sucks massively - That's the reason I've taken to writing down all my passwords as if I were to create one now, the Diazepam would see it out of my brain like a cat chasing a mouse... Might even break it's next too lol

Just had a joint on the way back from the shop and two daft coppers on pedal bikes shouted of me and started to ride towards me. They didn't get the joint tho I jogged for a few seconds toking it like a madman. I just couldn't stop laughing as I imagined them falling off the bikes.

Pee Ess: For simple data recovery you should definitely give Parted Magic a try I'd suggest, Monsta. It's a Live CD with loads of software including TestDisk and plenty other stuff. It's ideal for sorting a fairly fucked system out, free to download, works for any OS and you can even use it as an emergency OS in its own right if needs be. Got Firefox, Chrome, music players, IM software and all that kinda handy stuff as well as the data recovery and partitioning software. Everyone should have a copy of it on a CD for emergencies and fuck-ups, in my opinion. Life saver. Well, PC and sanity saver anyway :D

I've had the leccy go down many times without it damaging me HDD before but every now and then it seems to catch it in the middle of something vital and totally fucks it. Seems to be summat to do with the boot table "losing" where the data is stored. Tried the usual partition-saving/restoring thang but it can't even find what it's lost even though the partition is still named. Dunno what's going on with it but will have to have a lengthy PartMagic/SysRescue session sometime soon methinks
