buying codeine in aus?

^ I can see how to a small extent that may impact on the filtration. Which is just another reason why I don't use that cool down method, and just use cold tap water in the first place and have my CWE done in 10 minutes. :)

A good filter would also be important; if you are rapid cooling (how rapid would a fridge or freezer be though, really?) and have a filter that isn't so flash anyway (e.g. loosely woven shirt) then you could be letting some more APAP in that you could otherwise prevent.

Brought a pack of 24 panadeine in NZ. Was asked a lot of questions and had my ID checked. Seems a bit bs.

He entered my information into the PC. I wonder what they do with it and who accesses it.

They are good for when you have a cold / flu though.

If it's anything like here in Australia, which I'm fairly sure it is, then that information is just kept on that pharmacy's computer so they have a record of how often you buy it from them. I wouldn't worry too much, here in QLD at least it is the same situation for fluconazole and 1% or higher hydrocortisone creams.

Information for those substances isn't shared between pharmacies; the rare exception is when pharmacies are owned by the same person and perhaps have their records linked. One BL'er has posted of this being the case in the small town in which he lived.

Pseudoephedrine is the only OTC drug that is subject to nationwide recording and monitoring.

No you can't buy 2 items at the same time that both contain codeine. The ridiculous thing is, You can't buy 2x 18 packs of panadeine, even though you can buy 1 40 pack of panadeine.

I discovered that when the 18packs were almost normal half price so I thought ok i'll buy 2x.. But no, you can't... unless this pharmacist was just a fucking idiot and didn't understand the legislatio

The rule is no more then a five day supply. Either the pharmacist was ignorant of the fact that you can legally buy two 18 packs of Panadeine, or he was exercising his discretion to not sell it to you.

I've never seen 18 packs of Panadeine, was it just normal Panadeine tablets? Are you sure it wasn't a different number of tablets?

^ Yeah, I thought they only did 12 and 24 packs..

Does anyone know or have any experiences with codeine records with pharmacists in WA? They have never asked for ID/name/age/address whenever Ive bought mine, pretty much act as if Im buyin Panadol...

^ which is illegal as far as I know? As it's S3 (S4 depending on strength & quantity) I thought they had to label codeine products with your name and address. Whether they just ask you for these details or request ID is up to the discretion of the pharmacist though.

^^ The main factor which I thought was the reason was because I usually go there after work (because its right next door) and Im always wearing my uniform which requires a name badge.. I just tell em I have had migranes/back pains for the last couple of days but even then, they have never asked me any questions about the cause or personal details.. (They are behind the counter, pretty much in reaching distance from the till so Im assuming they are popular)

^ In Melbourne it is rare that I get my ID taken, a few places seem to do it most times and when they do they print out a sticker and put it on my box. Most places that take ID don;t even do it 100% of the time depending on who is working or they are busy.

As I understood the law, and as it seems to be practised in Victoria, it is neccessary for the pharmacist to be consulted before the sale of codeine containing medication. Some of the time they will go and get the pharmacist to come and talk to me, most of the time they just take the box over to the pharmacist and ask if its cool, the pharmacist will take a quick glance at me and OK it. The clerk then comes back over and will usually ask if I have asthma and tell me not to take the tablets on an empty stomach.

I have bought more boxes of codeine since May 1st 2010 than I care to recall, and it is a rare occassion I get my ID taken at all.

haha its funny you mentioned that because nearly every time Ive walked in there it seems like Im the first customer they have had all day and the store is always completely empty lol.. but it makes sense for them to have more of a reason to ask for details or explain dosage, ect. when its quiet because there not in a rush... but yea I also agree with you that it could very well depend on whos working at the time

I just call everything with paracetamol and codeine, panadeine. I think in actuality they were 'Herron Gold Plus Tablets ( 18 )' I wanted to buy (2x) as they were half price, but I was told I could only buy 1 pack. I checked their website, and it says:

Due to changes in regulations regarding the supply of codeine containing products, we can only supply ONE pack of any codeine containing product per person

^ Ah, thanks for the product name... I found the product and the website you are talking about. That's strange... must just be that chain's policy. The small local chain I know best will sell you two of the 12 packs of Panadeine Extra, and allows you to do so through their website as well.

The state's all have different requirements for S3 products. In QLD, all S3 products need to have details recorded, whether it's pseudoephedrine, codeine/APAP, promethazine or 1% hydrocortisone cream. I know QLD best as I live here. :)

Some of the other states though have S3 and then S3R, which is S3 Recordable. Pseudoephedrine is in this category everywhere, whereas in some states codeine/APAP must not be. In which case, it all comes down to the pharmacist or that store/chain's policy on taking details.

Many places in QLD will ask for ID, some won't.

I can't be bothered digging through legislation right now, but here is a little something from Wikipedia:

In Western Australia, supply of certain S3 preparations listed in Appendix J of the Poisons Regulations 1965 (WA) are recordable under Regulation 35A. As of 2006, Appendix J products specified are: hydrocortisone, hydrocortisone acetate, pseudoephedrine, and nicotine preparations were included in Schedule 3.

Honestly, I'm most curious about which nicotine products are S3 over there? Checking out the SUSMP, smoking cessation products are listed in S2 and therapeutic nicotine for human use (excepting smoking cessation products ) is in S4, though off the top of my head I can't think of any prescription nicotine medicine.

There's only 1 chain that records details for codeine in my town in Vic, I don't go there for anything as I don't like the pharmacist, even though it is one of the cheaper places. The others are great and I never have any problems with any purchases.

You can just order one of what you want from every online pharmacy. Its not a state or national wide linked database like Pseudo you know. Its local to that pharmacy only. If you are buying too often they can refuse but they don't call police or anything.

You know Americans are big buyers of our codeine from a lot of our online pharmacies, and since theyre not in Australia I've been told they can request a certain amount of days medication therefore ordering multiple bottles. I've heard this all over the pharm rating sites online for years.

thanks for posting that info..

btw, you cant think of anything on script to stop smoking? what about champix? waittttt, does champix actually contain nicotine or is it another chemical that messes with your nicotine receptors?

^ He said he can't think of any prescription nicotine medicine, champix is a smoking cessation aid but it contains no nicotine. I cannot speak for blonde but I am fairly certain he was referring to products that actually contain nicotine and not just products related to helping people quit smoking.

Bupropion is a great one for quitting smoking. It's a dopamine/norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Great for attention problems/a pep-up to the day.

Champix is for the serious people who want to quit it for good.

Except there's a 6 month period in between scripts...Bummer!

This. Champix doesn't contain nicotine, it contains a partial agonist at the nicotinic receptors.

Maybe the S4 nicotine entry is just to catch anyone trying to push nicotine for therapeutic uses other then smoking cessation?

And it's weird that WA records sales of OTC smoking cessation products, anyone know which ones?

^ That is pretty strange, were your stomach contents full or did you perhaps consume a strong CYO2D6 inhibitor before the codeine? When I drink my CWE I generally feel it starting to come on in less than ten minutes, although I invariably have a very empty gut when I CWE.

yes my stomache contents full. but i've always done cwe with food. and it has always come on with in 30-40mins. so i donno heh

I'm going to actually try a cold water extraction next week.

3 x 30 packs of Panafen Plus. over 1 gram of codeine....

just did a cwe.

took well over 2hrs and 30mins to come on.

weird as eh!

it usually comes on within 30-40mins.

Weird as man, u should feel it coming on within 10-20 mins. I drank sum 5 minutes ago, not too long now hehe. Gonna chop up while im waitin :)
