Does codeine do much after having an opiate tolerance?

My last opiate use was 2 weeks ago. I took 20 mg of hydrocodone and got a good high that day. There was nothing available tonight to me except codeine so I decided to give that a try. I looked up the equivalent dose 120mg codeine=20 mg hydro. I took that about an hour ago and I'm feeling very little. Just a slightly good mood. Does this have to do with codeine being a pro-drug? Should I re dose or should I wait a little while?

Thanks you saved me some codeine then. They were ridiculously cheap anyway. I just used the opiate comparison chart on wikipedia. It must not be entirely accurate.

I tried codeine last summer before trying vicodin & I actually liked the codeine high alot. It doesnt last as long as hydrocodone. Once you move on to hydrocodone, supposedly codeine doesnt work anympre. I havent tried it myself but from what my peers here at blue light have said, I will take their word for it.

Would alcohol be a little more euphoric now or is the entire dose a waste? How long should I wait before re-dosing? I assume the conversion chart doesn't take euphoric potential into account.

You should still be able to get a buzz from codeine if 20mg hydrocodone will get you high, but you will need to up your dose. Also codeine does not feel very euphoric after much use of stronger opiates IMO.

You'll still be able to get a buzz, although it may seem a bit different since you've had the hydrocodone.

You only have to worry about codeine not doing anything if you have a much bigger opiate tolerance. Alcohol does potentiate the codeine's effects but in my opinion at least it dirties up the high after a drink or two.

If you're using other potentiators and/or your codeine is coming with APAP (Tylenol 3, etc) then avoid using alcohol altogether.

I can't seem to get much of this codeine even at higher doses. Luckily I have hydrocodone now. When I run out of hydro, I'm going to use the codeine to taper. Is that a good idea? What dose of codeine should I jump off at?

I wish I would have taken codeine for several months instead of jumping to hydrocodone for back pain. My doctor never offered me codeine for back pain, he gave me Darvocets & then went right to Vicodin 7.5/750's

I was still able to catch a buzz from Codeine when I was using hydrocodone at doses around 25-35mg if I were to take doses above 300mg. The high wasn't as enjoyable but still had the potential. It was once I got into Oxycodone when Codeine began to not do as much. Once I got to doses of 30-40mg oxycodone codeine wasn't able to do anything anymore. Just something to prevent withdrawals

I don't know why codeine recieves so much "hate" compared to other opiates. It is always said to be a weak opiate, and while I understand those with a decent tolerance can't enjoy it due to its ceiling dose, it should be not considered a "weak" opiate for those without tolerance or with little tolerance. Let us remember that codeine is metabolized into morphine. And morphine is well morphine. If the dose is right, and the one taking the codeine metabolizes codeine normally, it should be comparable to an equal dose of oral morphine. There is nothing unenjoyable about codeine IMO, though it does have a different feel. One person I met even claimed T 3's were "like hitting the jackpot". And that is a quote. And that was just from T 3's! Codeine isn't a "shitty" opiate for someone who metabolizes it right with no tolerance. I wonder if it is just that most prefer the feel of oxycodone and hydrocodone to the feel of morphine which is what is causing the codeine's effects. Sorry for the rant, but I just had to say it.

200mg of Codeine is equivalent to 30mg Morphine. Just because it is metabolized into Morphine does not mean it mimics the effects of Morphine. Also, only 10% of it is metabolized into Morphine. The effects are very lightly comparable. Very slightly. Also remember, ORAL MORPHINE sucks big black cocks.

Why do you say they are very slightly comparable? I would think an equal oral dose of morphine for a normal metabolizer, opiate-naive individual would be the same as an equal dose of codeine.

The effects of Morphine and Codeine are not the same, well similar, but no matter how much codeine you take it will never feel like your on Morphine. Morphine is a far superior drug. Just like oxycodone metabolizes into Oxymorphone. They have similar effects but oxycodone will never be as good as oxymorphone.

you can re-dose codeine after 5 hours, its the same as when you smoke a joint, the first one is always the best and the rest become less effective. if you re-dose sooner than 5 hours i find it's a more sedated and drowsy than a euphoric high

remember that some people aren't very good metabolizers of codeine and enzyme levels will differ so it makes it hard to judge how much hydro = codeine. i find that 150mg - 200mg is a good starter dose if a non-tolerant person wants to nod.
