I'm an anxious freak - please help!

LOL. "The Streets" are also full of undercover narc agents. With my luck I'd end up behind bars for attempting to purchase illegal substances. It blows me away how almost any high school kid can get access to any street drug, but a straight laced white collar guy like me would be busted on the first try.

I don't do well talking, chanting, stretching, or meditating away my anxiety. My anxiety is a beast and nothing can calm him except high doses of potent meds. I wish it weren't that way, but alas that is my cross to bear.

SSRIs are obscenely nasty. While on Prozac I would do nothing but lie in bed all day staring at the ceiling with no ambition to do anything -- not even eat. Bleh!

I would suggest either asking the doctor about vicoden/lortab (same thing) or going to your local methadone clinic. a lot of people will surely say the second idea is a bad one, but i'm sure you can ask for a lower dose than usual (ie 5mg) and just say your a recovering addict (have been clean 1 month or so; say this to explain your intake urine not having opiate) but you feel like your going to relapse and have heard methadone helps with the cravings. just get the 5mg methadone dose and split it into 2 doses; take one dose every day. after 3 months or so start taking the full dose. the benefit of this idea will be that while you will have to go to the clinic every day, starting out, you will be able to get takehome doses after not too long, and will be able to get your dose increased when you start to have a tolerance with not much bullshit. after 3 months you should only have to go 3 times a week, 6 months twice a week, then after a year you should be able to only go once a week, maybe even once every other week. just be aware that your tolerance will increase. and as long as your dose is under 30mg ( a monster dose for somebody whose never done opiates long term, should take you YEARS to get to that dose using responsibly) you won't have much of a detox. a third option would be a pain clinic to get lortab/vicoden so PM me if you want help finding one.

are you overweight, unhealthy, get daily exercise,, eat processed food? these could be factors

Nope...I'm quite a healthy guy. I'm 35 but every time I tell someone my age they're shocked. Everyone always pegs me at about 27...but this is because I exercise, eat healthy food, and don't drink alcohol nor smoke. All of this said, my anxiety/social phobia isn't tied to lifestyle for the above reasons.

I DONT like the idea of checking out the local methadone/rehab clinics. I DO like the idea about being honest with my Doc. Fortunately he's been pretty liberal with the Hydrocodone.

All I'm trying to do is find a non-opiate drug that will treat my anxiety. The ultimate goal is to switch back and forth between the mild opiate and whatever else I find that works so as to not create an opiate tolerance/addiction. Right now I'm trying Valium for anxiety but it's not working out so well. It just puts me to sleep.

K'd in AZ suggested Lyrica, and I'm just curious how this might work for my anxiety given my history with opiates/benzos.

hello friend u need a benzo like maybe we could start u on 1 to 2 mg of xanax daily and up from there if u need more jus call in pffffttt thats what my dr does great doc huh im also on suboxone from same dr he TRYNA KILL ME !!!! I HAVE REAL BAD ANXIETY always been bad but since i started using dope it spiraled outta control on benzos help me honestly

I'm gonna go ahead and give Lyrica a try. Does it's effects last a while? I'll pop 30 - 40mg of Valium for anxiety, which will calm me down and make me sleepy for about 2 hours and then I'm back to normal -- fells like I hadn't taken anything at all. My tolerance to most drugs is really high.

I take my Lyrica in the morning and it seems to last the majority of the day...maybe 12 hours. But it seems to be different for some people. If you abuse Lyrica (at doses from 450-600mg...and even more) the duration seems to be like 24 hours or more. When you wake up you will still feel sort of out of it. Any other questions about Lyrica I will answer.

So poppy pod tea is effective? I assume u procure them via the web from florist n shit? Lol I kinda wanna give that a shot.

Me too. But I imagine they keep a tight leash on that stuff. It's no secret what you're up to when you buy it.....kinda like pushing a shopping cart full of whipped cream canisters up to the checkout line.

So lyrica is really used in the same manner as an SSRI - daily intake as a mood stabilizer throughout the day? Any highs associated with it? Does it zone you out like Prozac?

If you are fine with switching back and forth between a true opiate, and a semi-narcotic opiate, you can try switching between lortab and tramadol. Although tramadol binds to the mu-opioid receptor, it also has other mechanisms of action that prevent tolerance from building up too quickly (NMDA antagonism, serotonin release, etc.) Just another idea.

On occasion benzos can be of help, it's just if you use them daily they can really mess with your memory (mine has only recently recovered,) and its very easy to get into accidents on them (my friend crashed into the other side of the road!) It's pretty much alcohol in a pill without all the liver damage and toxicity.

Best of luck my friend.

WoW! Are you spying on me? That's exactly what I'm doing right now. I'm off Lortabs and on Tramadol. Trams work pretty decently for my anxiety although I have to pound 350mg in order to get the desired effect. I've sworn off benzos 4eva at this point. I only dose up on average 6-8 times a month anyways, so tolerance is almost a non-issue.

If you arent willing to try an ssri (i dont blame you, read the lengthy post i just made in this forum concerning the OP asking about lexapro), there are certainly othrt options. I would NOT recommend the advice to buy your opiates off the street! For someone that suffers from anxiety, the idea probably makes you scared as shit! I have always found that being completely honest with my dr is the best way to go. When i became a little smarter and started researching my own issues, i found that the drs were very open to having a dialogue with me about how the meds work, why they wanted me to try something, and when i was dead set on trying something i read, my dr respected me enough to indulge me if it made medical sense.
I wont deny at all that opiates can certainly help with anxiety and depression. The problem is that the vast majority of people cannot handle the mental and physical dependence of opiates. Hell, read the board....how many stories have we read of opiates absolutely ruining people's lives? As far as benzos, i have found that 1 mg klonipin taken twice a day absolutely helped me in high anxiety situations. Having said that, i also know people that dont suffer from anxiety that have taken a single kpin and acted completely high. I have never understood that response because the only thing that they do for me is slow the thoughts down enough to make things manageable, and in social situations they make me much less introverted and frankly less of an asshole. I dont like crowds, long lines, parties, etc. I have always been very anxious in those situations, but the kpins definitely helped. Tramadol did not help me personally, and in fact made me quite sick, but the psychiatrist i was seeing at the time prescribed 600mg twice a day and after taking the first dose i threw them away and changed from a psychiatrist to a psychologist. While i dont see a therapist currently, they can be very helpful IF you find one that you respect and are comfortable with. I went through at least ten before i found someone i meshed with, but when i did, she was a big help. Have you researched welbutrin? I know that it did not work for me, but if i am correct it is not an ssri or snri, but a much older type of antidepressant that is used for not only anxiety but also a smoking cessation treatment. You did not mention why you are opposed to antidepressants but IF your dr pushes them on you, do yourself a monster favor and research the crap out of them before you start...especially the withdrawals! And, if you decide to go that route, celexa and paxil are used for general anxiety disorder frequently but most importantly go into any AD treatment with a plan or you could end up taking them for a lot longer than you anticipated because they can be damn hard to quit. Youre doing the right thing by researching and asking questions before becoming a guinea pig, just remember that there is no magic pill. Even if and hopefully when you find something that works well for you just remember that these meds are band aids in most situations. Unless you want to be on something the rest of your life sooner or later you have to get to the root of the issue which is why i suggest finding a good therapist. I know i took crap from all my "manly" friends when i went, but screw them, they dont live my life and you have to do whats right for you. I hope this helps somewhat and good luck.
