Here is why I DIS-respect Deadmau5

As requested, here is the official Why I disrespect Deadmau5 thread. I'll throw a couple ideas out there...

* His beats are generic and every song sounds the same.
* He is known to be rude, including to fans.
* The melodies are simple, boring, and don't develop.
* His production is not "innovative" as people have claimed. He just produces house music. This has been done for years.

I'd like to add that I am not above some of the more commericial djs. I tend to think most of them have little talent, but if I hear something I like, I won't pretend I don't like it just cause it's cool not to or whatever. I have given this guy a fair chance and listened to a lot of his songs, and they just aren't creative. There are no ups and downs, the songs never really go anywhere. As far as electronic goes, theres way better stuff out there, and those artists probably aren't making fun of you for listening to their stuff.
 
When I listen to deadmau5 songs all I can think is "man this is pretty good for 1999"... There's no energy, just monotone mediocrity. Every song has a 15 minute intro that develops in to absolutely nothing. Why drag out an intro so long? A lot of them are over 2 minutes long in a 5 minute song... come on. I would't even think he was anything special if I heard him as a chill room DJ at a small time event while I was smoking a cigarette rolling nuts. It is that boring.

It's not just the style of music either. Deadmau5 really just scrapes the surface of what the genre is capable of (which is perhaps why he is so famous). Other producers make deadmau5 seem like a real novice with his equipment... listen to the EP by Feed Me - Feed Me's Big Adventure (ironically on the mau5trap label). It is way more innovative and proves this stuff doesn't need to be boring and painfully monotonous.

In the end though this guy has millions of fans so good job at getting rich and famous I guess...
 
i'm not a fan of deadmau5 but I am a fan of his music. I completely disagree with points 1,3,4.
1. his beats are not generic. If you're talking about the back beat in his music...most house music is 4/4 bass on the down beats, snare on the 2/4. If you mean the rhythm of his music, he plays with a lot of poly rhythm which is pretty interesting. (ex. Slip)

3. his melodies are simple and boring?! please give examples of some of his songs where you find the melody simplisitic/boring.
Also, what do you mean by not developing? Strobe (although it is overplayed) is a great example of a great melody, far from simple, and thoroughly develops.

4. He is known for his prog. house break through. Please give me a name of a DJ/producer that came before him/sounds like him?

While I hate his ego, I will stick up for the fact that he is so big now because he IS different. He is a great producer (look at mau5trap record/the artists under his label) and a pretty good live DJ. I got to see him before he got super main stream, and it was nuts.
This in no way is an attack towards you, but in general, I am sick of all the hate he gets.
Yes, he deserves the hate for being a cocky douche bag, but its ignorant to say his music sucks. Yes there is personal preference as well but from a musicians perspective, personal taste aside, he is well ahead of the game.

You are completely clueless, did you even listen to his last album, or was strobe the only song thanks to the radio?

ALL his shit does sounds the same, its boring and generic as fuck.
 
Agreed with he's generic, however, asshole to fans? maybe, but i follow him on facebook and he's by far the most interesting to follow.

I also follow Jack beats, Benassi, Simian mobile disco, Dustin Zahn and Miss kittin, and none of them do shit. As a fan, im more likely to relate to someone who actually shares with fans. So, generic yes, asshole probably, interesting fuck yes.

Hahaha... if I have to roll to enjoy it, then it isn't good. I listen to a variety of electronic and I love it SOBER. I have seen so many talented artists over the years, a Deadmau5 show wouldn't really do much for me.
 
i like deadmau5. as well as wolfgang gartner, miles dyson, etc. his music has atmosphere, i think its pretty good. but each to their own. there is far worse music around tbh
 
Deadmau5 is......OK, in my book. His songs to tend to sound all the same and me and few friend always have a laugh about his songs never going anywhere. Granted there are a few songs of his I do like and listen to often but its easily under half of what hes made.

It's not taken personally. This thread was made in good fun. I do think it's pretty silly that you "are sick of all the hate he gets". I'm not insulting you, I'm saying I don't like his music and here's why. Why would you take that personally? Why do you care that others don't like his music? I don't give a fuck if people like the same music as I.

Ignorant is definitely not the right word to use. It is not ignorant to dislike someone's music. On the same page, many would say it's ignorant to like his music, because it is so mainstream and generic.

As far as examples of songs that are boring, I promise... I gave this guy a fair chance. Last night before I started this thread, I listened to at least 15 of his songs on youtube to make sure I wasn't just being a douche. Every single one had the same intro. It was long and boring and the blow up was uneventful. I kept waiting for something epic, but this song really built up just to let me down. There are no highs and lows, it just sounds the same through the entire song. The only differences I could hear was that some of them had that annoying voice.

Electronic is such a massive genre, it's hilarious that anyone would say this guy is a pioneer. I would be willing to bet that a large percentage of people who enjoy his music are new to "the scene" and electronic music. When most people get into a new genre, they hear the mainstream stuff first. Then, as they hear more, their tastes develop and expand. I bet in 5 years, if you still listen to electronic, you'll laugh that you ever liked it. You'll barely be able to tolerate it, even though it will still have a special place in your heart for nostalgic purposes. Trust me... we've all been there.

He's said in a few interviews that he hates electronic music culture, djs, ravers, etc.
 
Ive conversed with joel a couple times on fb..(his personal page not deadmau5) and all the while he seemed completely content with being an utter douchebag. I could barely handle it, and i just kept wondering what it would be like if all his fans got to actually meet him.

i relate, because he used to be a raver and now he hates them. I used to smoke weed and do e and now i hate them. People change, and just because he's a documented dousche doesn't mean he isn't interesting... which is what i said. I never said he was nice.

to rollinlikeabigshot, while im sure a lot of fans will be turned off to him, I know i'll never meet the guy so i guess to me, i dont really care if hes a dick. Im not disagreeing with you, i seen his forum posts and know he's cocky. I do like some of his music, but indifferent to his "personal" life. I just enjoy his facebook page because he posts funny stuff and bitches a lot. Most celebrity musicians wouldn't post one thing about their lives on facebook.

please link me some music of other artists that sound like deadmau5 or that deadmau5 sounds like?
