obviously it's only my opinion, but modern psytrance is awful. How can the same sound being repeated for hours on end with the occasional synth going up or down be bearable to anyone? Went to a psy festival earlier this year and the repetitive dun dun dun dun dun almost drove me to insanity... I really learnt to hate 4/4 that day.

However there is real merit in older psy like Holymen, actually creative and interesting. Beavis in the Maze is an insane track, parts of it are almost ego shattering without drugs.

I mainly listen to Psybient, but have a lot of Breakcore, raggacore, jungle, IDM, and general electronic ambient genres but not all of which are danceable. The most danceable act I've ever seen is Shpongle, without a doubt.

Meh, I like some cheese too. But heavy kicks and dark melodies are where it's at for me with hardstyle :p

Could say the same about trance too then. But I find those two genres amazing and when I'm on acid, it's just... incredible. It becomes repetitively awesome.

I have a similar view on trance yes, I like some trance (Tiesto's Healing Dream, Magik Journey & Adagio for Strings in particular), but as a whole it isn't a genre I enjoy and as I said, I love a lot of older psy, it's just what I've heard from the last 10 years, that to me is really awful, especially darkpsy.

yep, a lot of recent psytrance is shit (imho especially darkpsy). but psytrance is still one of my favourite styles of music.
i find there's still a good amount of good progressive psytrance released today (andromeda, liquid soul, s-range, ...), while fullon nowadays really sucks. it's all the same formulaic crap or — even worse — extremely cheesy; it seems as if "clean production" is now valued much higher than good composition or innovativeness. but if you listen to fullon from the early 00's you'll find some gems with intricate soundscapes and innovative sound design.

but to stay on topic: goa trance >> everything else =D

When I'm on ecstasy in a club, I'd have to say tech-house. Deep, hypnotic, groove-based tech-house :)

When I'm not on ecstasy (either in a club or at home), I'd probably say either techno or electro (and by 'electro', I mean Kraftwerk, Drexciya, Anthony Rother, DJ Stingray etc etc).

Its amazing most clubs in the big cities in the US probably play house, progressive, electro and tech house. But everyone likes different styles on here and mostly things that arent very common in the US.

love it all, other than house.
totally obsessed and cant get over happy hard-core, i like the DnB + trance though, im more of a fast pased person:)

When out... Tech House with a bit of groove. You can always throw a bit of techno or deeeper house into the mix.

When at home.. mostly early 90's techno.

Dirty House.
Melbourne Techno.
Melbourne Dirty House.

I lived in Melbourne for 3 years (06-09), but I was never aware of a genre called 'Melbourne techno' or 'Melbourne dirty house'. I hope you're not referring to the garbage John Course plays!!!!!

Hell no! I hate that tool! Lol.
It's similar to tech house, but it's got a very niche Melbourne sound.

The club - 'Korova' exhibits the best example of this type of music. But as of late the sound has branched out into some of the more mainstream clubs. Which annoys me.

I've never heard of 'Korova'. Where is it? IMO the best clubs in Melbourne are F4 and Brown Alley. Prince Of Wales is a great venue with a great soundsystem - it's just a shame the crowd there is full of posers, and they have a crappy door policy (although whenever I went there, I just made sure I bought a ticket in advance, so there was no way they could turn me away).

How are the pills in Melbourne these days? I assume they're still terrible :\

what I live for, but among my mates its either techno or drum and bass, opposing camps always trying to say theirs is better :p a mate put it into really good words, can't remember now, went through loads of different genres and when you play them, but I do remember it ending 'but techno is what you live for' :D

i just love squelchy acid music, tis the best sound, sometimes its a particular style, but sometimes is climbs into a league of its own Rephlex for life <3
