Liver/Kidney Detox. What would u reconmend?

!!!???!!!

Asparagus INCREASES Uric Acid!!!
Asparagus is used as a treatment for gout because gout is associated with LOW uric acid levels. Food with purines, some salty fish and asparagus, will drastically increase your uric acid levels.

No, look it up again mate. Gout is definitely associated with hyperuricaemia.

Modern scans and testing is actually one of the best things about modern western medicine, besides surgery and emergency medicine.

I feel like modern medicine in the US (Compared to some European and asian countries even in mainstream medicine) has some weakness in its approach to chronic illness....they assume that anything other than extremely rudimentary education like to cut down on salt and saturated fat is useless since people wont change, and the role of diet is completely undermined despite objective science studying its benefits. They are more likely to hand out pills than try to help you recover your underlying health. Sometimes the pills make your underlying health worse, other times they are essential for your survival or wellbeing, especially when patients refuse to change lifestyle or when its beyond that.

Self diagnosis is a problem. If its stones you need to surgically remove them or chemically dissolve them.

You are right. I flipped that around in my mind somehow.

However, Asparagus still has purines which INCREASE Uric acid. Seems counter productive if you want to lower your uric acid, but thats for stones not for other types of kidney damage or inflammation.

Surgery is used for larger stones, but most small stones will pass on their own and intermediate-sized stones can be broken up with shockwave lithotripsy.

Sometimes. There are also OTC methods to dissolve them so they are less painful to pass, or to prevent them from getting bigger.

There seems to be a misconception that anything proven = mainstream medicine. Not true. There are a lot of proven therapies that are not mainstream and could be considered alternative. Some alternative therapies are unproven, or have a lower quality body of evidence to support them, but there are other reasons besides proven efficacy that certain therapies might not be commonly used....For example, crude herbs might work but lack the precision of a standardized extract, so despite proven efficacy might not be preferred over a synthetic extract. There can be alternative therapies with strong evidence supporting their use.

Asparagus might help the kidney detoxification by increasing homocystine, but if you have stones the purines could make it worse by increasing uric acid.

Sorry for being defensive. It looks like we actually agree on a lot of things.....and yeah, I had a dyslexic moment there.

^ haha it's all good. I guess this isn't really the place to debate the validity of alternative therapies anyway. As long as everyone is giving the OP reasonable advice that won't actually harm him we can agree to disagree on some of the finer points :)

Kidney stones are a result of retention of uric acid in the kidney.

Asparagus contains asparamid,
a most awesome diuretic that will purge
your body of uric acid build-ups.

The high levels of uric acid found
in urine after the eating of asparagus is
a result of this process + not an
indication that asparagus is dangerous.

Try eating asparagus every day for a month,
the odour will almost disappear from your urine.

PEACE

^ I don't think I could go 7 days without smoking cigarettes, I would kill everyone around me ha ha. :D

Milk thistle is great for anyone who pushes their liver with alcohol or other hepatotoxins. I was going to start using it but then got a blood test done and found out my liver was fine. I don't drink a lot though, the only hepatotoxin I'm ingesting is APAP from codeine CWE's.

Haha true shit Mr. Blonde...Jesus, I once heard on here that through all of the people who've been through withdrawals, heroin/crack/opiates in general/benzo's etc, you name it, that none of them could kick the smoking habit!!!

I wonder what the fuck is up with that?

Anywho, I'm off for a durry. Be coming back the mountain when I check out my OxyNorm post...:)

^ Yeah it's funny, smoking doesn't get me high but it is so hard to quit. Not that I've tried, I love smoking so much. It goes perfectly with any activity you can think of: after eating, while drinking, in the morning with my coffee, while driving, after sex, while on other drugs too. :D

I think part of it is how available it is; you can't go down to the nearest convenience store and buy some smack or meth.

It's also relatively socially acceptable when compared to illegal substances.

No doubt the increased dopamine levels are part of the addiction as well. But it is strange how hard a habit it is to give up. :)

um my 2 cents

your body doesn't "detox" because you purge, fast, eat lots of vegies or fruit. It doesn't detox because you run lots or stop eating fatty foods.

yes you can eat better foods but they aren't "detoxing" you, there just providing your body the nourishment it needs to continue functioning.

your body doesn't detox because you eat ginger or lots of microbotics.

Your body "detoxes" because you shit and piss (mainly piss) toxic substances that have been converted by your body into something that it can safely discharge. Even drinking a lot of water won't do a lot (perhaps low your sodium levels) but that's about it.

i guess you have to think about what your putting in your body, what it metabolic is. for example when taking MDMA it 'mediates the production of hydrogen peroxide' in your brain. Yet it it would seem that the liver uses catalase which is a enzyme to convert hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen.

so clearly a toxic substances is converted without ginseng, ginger, watermelon, diuretics, hoky pokey fucking religions or medications, into water and oxygen. which are discharged accordingly from our bodies.

so if you want to detox then just eat right (and normal foods). Sleep (sleep lots) and don't take any drugs.

If yo' body has toxins innit
and they leave the body
aided by products that
stimulate the toxins-leavin'-the-body-process
it'd be fair enough to call them detoxification aids, no?

Jus' saying.

This is a very simplistic view and is in some ways false.

Bitters are PROVEN to stimulate the liver to produce more bile. Bile is how the liver discharges toxins as well as digestive enzymes.

What about anti-oxidants? They do more than nourish your body. They are not just building blocks. They negate free radicals.

Glutathione.....you need certain nutrition to make the stuff that helps you detox. This isnt just for the bodies building blocks, but certain molecules are needed for detox.

What about chelation? Did you know there are natural chelating elements in foods? Chelation therapy is used to remove heavy metals. Mild chelation occurs when you introduce chelating agents from other source as well, including trace amounts of chelating elements from foods.

I actually went to college for nutrition. There is a lot more to this stuff than some people realize.

^ But he is saying there is no proof that these products aid the detox process. Which is true.

That is a bold statement.

Saying something like, 'You have not provided us with proof, therefor I remain unconvinced' would be an accurate statement.

Claiming that evidence or proof does not exist anywhere is basically claiming that you are omniscient or that you have studied every bit of evidence in existence anywhere.....likely that isnt the case.
